<p><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/nypd" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York City Police Department</a> detectives were called to perform a wellness check on a 22-year-old woman on Wednesday afternoon, only to discover suitcases stuffed with human remains.</p>
<p>Residents of an apartment complex in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/new-york-city" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Brooklyn</a> told administrators there was a foul smell coming from one of the apartments, telling apartment security that they hadn’t seen the young woman who lived there for some time, ABC 7 NY <a href="https://abc7ny.com/body-parts-found-in-brooklyn-suitcase-nyc-crime/12249473/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. When a security guard attempted to enter the young woman’s apartment, he was stopped by her 23-year-old boyfriend, who sometimes lived in the apartment and had a restraining order against him taken out by the young woman.</p>
<p>The security guard returned to his desk and called police, reportedly seeing the boyfriend and another man quietly leave with a bag believed to contain evidence. The guard went back up to the woman’s apartment and found two suitcases containing blood, human remains, and body parts, as well as a meat cleaver.</p>
<p>NYPD arrived at the scene and found the suitcases, NBC News <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/body-parts-found-stuffed-suitcases-wellness-check-nyc-woman-police-say-rcna48894?cid=sm_npd_nn_tw_ma" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>, and took them to the medical examiner, who has yet to determine cause of death.</p>
<p>The remains are believed to be those of the unnamed young woman, and police are now actively looking for her boyfriend. The woman had a valid protection order against the boyfriend that lasted until the end of the month, and he had reportedly violated it before by showing up to her apartment without permission.</p>
<p>Residents of the apartment building told ABC 7 that the couple had fought previously, but also described shock that such a gruesome crime could occur in their building.</p>
<p>&#8220;This neighborhood is not the best neighborhood, to be honest with you, but this is outrageous. Absolutely outrageous,&#8221; Lindsey Vena, who lives in the building, told the outlet. &#8220;It makes me scared to even be around here. I&#8217;m just sick.&#8221;</p>
<p>Another resident told the outlet that the situation was “scary.”</p>
<p>&#8220;I live here with my family, and it&#8217;s just kind of wicked knowing that there&#8217;s somebody doing something like this where you lay your head at night,&#8221; the resident said.</p>
