After teenaged illegal immigrants belonging to &#8220;Los Diablos de 42,” described as a “farm team&#8221; of the Venezuelan Tren de Aragu gang, <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/newyork/news/nypd-officers-attacked-teenage-gang-times-square/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">attacked NYPD officers</a> on Friday in Times Square, New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch <a href="https://www.fox5ny.com/news/tren-de-aragua-gang-violence-times-square" target="_blank" rel="noopener">acknowledged</a> that NYPD is coordinating with federal agencies, but added, &#8220;The NYPD does not engage in civil immigration issues—period.&#8221;
Homan slammed Tisch, saying to Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, “These people are in the country illegally, and the first thing the police commissioner did up there  — she’s ordered an internal affairs investigation. Did someone call ICE? Because we happened to be at the precinct where some of these people were being processed by happenstance, but now all of a sudden there’s an internal affairs investigation.”
“Who called ICE? We just proved to the city commissioner, we proved to the city council, that wants to lock us out of Rikers Island, that working with Mayor Adams &#8230; we indicted 27 members of TdA through a RICO investigation. &#8230; These are people who are murder-for-hire, drug traffickings, sex trafficking, gun trafficking. We took 27 TdA off the street. ICE, with the cooperation of the NYPD, we showed what our partnership can do.”
In mid-April, the New York City Council <a href="https://council.nyc.gov/news/2025/04/15/new-york-city-council-files-lawsuit-to-stop-mayor-adams-illegal-executive-order-inviting-president-trumps-ice-into-rikers-to-set-up-office-seeking-courts-immediate-halt-of/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">filed a lawsuit</a> asking for a temporary restraining order (TRO) and a preliminary injunction against Mayor Eric Adams’ <a href="https://www.nyc.gov/assets/home/downloads/pdf/executive-orders/2025/eo-50.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Executive Order 50</a> to invite ICE to operate an office in the Rikers Island jail.
“They’re already pulling back now,” Homan continued. “So the commissioner is more concerned with who called ICE rather than working with ICE to get these people not out of the street, (but) out of the country. &#8230; This is just another example of sanctuary cities not cooperating with ICE and look what happened: NYPD officers are attacked. If you&#8217;re brazen enough to attack an armed law enforcement officer, you&#8217;re much more dangerous to an unarmed civilian.”
Asked by Ingraham what his message was for three illegal immigrants “still on the loose,” Homan replied, “We’re comin’ for ‘em.” He continued, “These are the type of people that AOC brags, ‘Why I’m educating people on their constitutional rights.’ We all know what she’s doing. She’s educating criminals now to evade law enforcement.”
“Well, you know, I’m gonna do a little educating myself: You don’t want to open the door; you don’t want to answer a question; you don’t want to help us with the travel documents that get you removed, that’s a violation of Title VIII, United States Code 1253. It’s a crime. And we’re going to start prosecuting those crimes tomorrow.”
“If you got a final order, and you want to hinder your removal, you want to put roadblocks up and not cooperate, you want to hide and not open the door, then the agency is gonna start prosecuting you criminally,” he warned. “Then, after you get out of jail from that prosecution, then we deport you. Game’s over. We’re gonna look for these public safety threats and we’re gonna take ‘em off the streets in New York and every other sanctuary city. As a matter of fact, every sanctuary city, we’re gonna triple the workforce. We’re gonna flood the zone with officers. If we can’t arrest them in the jail, we’re gonna arrest them in the community. If we can’t arrest them in the community, we’ll arrest them at their worksite.”

Luigi Mangione, the man suspected of assassinating UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, waived his extradition to New York on Thursday after initially signaling he would <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/suspected-unitedhealthcare-ceo-assassin-fights-extradition-to-new-york" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fight</a> it while remaining in a Pennsylvania prison.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced on Tuesday that Mangione is being charged with first-degree murder in furtherance of terrorism and two second-degree murder counts, one of which is charged as a killing in the act of terrorism. Mangione was immediately transferred to NYPD custody following his extradition hearing, and he is being flown to New York City, where he is set to appear for arraignment in Manhattan later on Thursday, CBS News <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/newyork/news/unitedhealthcare-ceo-murder-suspect-luigi-mangione-extradition-hearing/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
Mangione also faces federal charges of murder, stalking, and weapons charges, according to a complaint unsealed Thursday, the Associated Press <a href="https://www.kcra.com/article/unitedhealthcare-ceo-murder-suspect-federal-charges/63238747" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The federal murder charge makes him eligible for the death penalty. A courtroom was set aside in a Manhattan federal courthouse for Mangione, and he&#8217;s expected to appear in federal court Thursday afternoon.
The suspected assassin was seen leaving the courthouse in Pennsylvania and being taken into custody by the NYPD.

“Let me say this plainly, there is no heroism in what Mangione did. This was a senseless act of violence. It was a cold and calculated crime that stole a life and put New Yorkers at risk,” Tisch said. “We don’t celebrate murders and we don’t lionize the killing of anyone. And any attempt to rationalize this is vile, wreckless, and offensive to our deeply held principles of justice.”
Bragg claims that Mangione “intended to evoke terror” with his alleged murder of Thompson. The DA argued that the killing of Thompson on December 4 “was intended to cause shock and attention and intimidation.” Some legal experts expressed skepticism over the prosecution’s chances to convict Mangione on the terrorism charges. In an interview with CNN&#8217;s Anderson Cooper, former federal prosecutor Jessica Roth suggested that “by including” the terrorism charges, “the district attorney is setting up the conditions for a plea to a lesser charge where he has the possibility of, at some point, getting out of prison.”

&#8220;It’s targeted, precise, and doesn’t risk innocents,” Mangione allegedly wrote in the notebook. The suspect considered using a bomb but wrote in his notebook that it “could kill innocents,” CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/12/11/us/unitedhealthcare-ceo-brian-thompson-shooter-wednesday/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. According to authorities, Mangione was also in possession of a 262-word manifesto where he allegedly called out &#8220;United&#8221; and wrote, &#8220;To save you a lengthy investigation, I state plainly that I wasn’t working with anyone.&#8221;
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said on Wednesday that a water bottle and Kind snack bar wrapper recovered by police near the crime scene contained fingerprints that match those of Mangione. Tisch also noted that three shell casings recovered at the scene of the crime matched the homemade gun found on Mangione when he was arrested. The 9mm shell casings from the scene of Thompson&#8217;s assassination had the words &#8220;delay,&#8221; &#8220;deny,&#8221; and &#8220;depose&#8221; written on them, according to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny. It was initially reported that the words on the shell casings were &#8220;defend,&#8221; &#8220;deny,&#8221; and &#8220;depose&#8221; before police clarified.
Mangione is being held on firearm and forgery charges in Pennsylvania and fighting his extradition to New York, where he is charged with second-degree murder. The assassin waited near the Hilton hotel in Midtown Manhattan before approaching Thompson from behind and shooting him multiple times, surveillance video shows. Police found a homemade gun and suppressor on Mangione when he was arrested at an Altoona, Pennsylvania, McDonald&#8217;s last week.
Police connected the suspect, who was masked when he allegedly assassinated Thompson, to surveillance footage of a man seen smiling in a Manhattan hostel. The suspect reportedly showed a fake New Jersey ID at the hostel when he booked a room there in November. When Mangione was questioned by Altoona police last week, he allegedly showed them the same fake New Jersey ID.

When he was questioned by local police, Mangione allegedly showed them a fake New Jersey ID that matched the fake ID presented by a person of interest at a Manhattan hostel last month.

The suspect attended the University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League school where he received a degree in computer science. After college, Mangione spent a short time as a head counselor at a pre-college program at Stanford University and then moved to Hawaii in 2022.
In Hawaii, he worked remotely and lived at a co-working and co-living space in Honolulu, his former roommate R.J. Martin told CNN. According to Martin, Mangione had a surfing accident which put him &#8220;in bed for about a week.&#8221; Martin added that Mangione said he had a misaligned spine.

According to law enforcement sources, Mangione was traveling through Altoona on a Greyhound bus when he went to eat at McDonald&#8217;s, ABC News reported. A customer who recognized Mangione from photos circulated by the NYPD alerted an employee at the fast food chain, who then reported Mangione to the police. When Altoona police arrived to question Mangione, they found multiple fake IDs on him and what appeared to be a homemade firearm and suppressor, according to authorities.

Thompson, 50, was gunned down on a Midtown Manhattan street last Wednesday morning as he was making his way to the Hilton hotel for his company&#8217;s Investor&#8217;s Conference. The CEO was approached from behind by a masked assassin dressed in black who shot Thompson in the back, causing him to stumble to the ground, before firing more shots at him. The assassin used what appeared to be a handgun with a suppressor. Thompson was declared dead a short time later at the hospital.
