British television presenter Piers Morgan tore into President Joe Biden’s presidency on the eve of Biden’s first anniversary in the White House.
Writing in an op-ed for the New York Post, the journalist and news anchor took Biden to task for “spectacularly” failing to live up to the promises he made during his inaugural address in 2020, and warned that Americans’ disgruntlement could result in massive electoral defeat in 2022 and 2024.
“Dear Joe, Happy Anniversary,” Morgan began. “Can we get a divorce?”
“I don’t like to sugar-coat things, so let me be blunt: You’ve been a disaster.”
“In fact,” Morgan continued, “it’s hard to think of a more insipid, less inspiring, fiasco-ridden opening 12 months to a presidency.”
“You were going to reunite a bitterly fractured country by ending ‘the anger and harsh rhetoric,’ remember? You’ve failed,” Morgan said, pointing to multiple speeches where Biden scolded Americans on the other side of the aisle, like the September address where Biden announced his vaccine mandate for private businesses, in which he told unvaccinated Americans “our patience is wearing thin”; the scolding December press conference on the Omicron variant, where he told unvaccinated Americans that they would be responsible for overwhelming hospitals; his scornfully divisive speech on the anniversary of January 6th, in which Biden bashed both former President Donald Trump, his supporters, and Congressional Republicans before using the occasion to tout Democratic election reform; and his speeches on election reform in Georgia, where he compared Republicans pushing for their own election reforms to Confederate President Jefferson Davis and segregationist George Wallace.
“You were going to ‘defeat’ COVID, remember? You’ve failed,” Morgan continued, pointing out that more Americans have died during Biden’s tenure than under Trump’s, that the Omicron variant is surging across the country, that the Biden administration’s plan to expand testing has failed because of a testing shortage, and that Biden has “still only persuaded 63% of US citizens to be vaccinated.”
“You were going to fix the economy, remember?” Again, Morgan told Biden he failed, citing the 7% spike in annual inflation, the largest increase in nearly four decades, and consumer prices spiking across the country, headlined by fuel and food prices, both of which are expected to continue to rise, as The Daily Wire previously reported.
“You were going to lean on your many decades as a senator to bring bipartisan deal-making back to DC, remember?” Morgan asked rhetorically again. “You’ve failed. In fact, you can’t even persuade two of your own Democrat senators to agree with you about key policies, never mind the Republicans.”
Morgan also blasted the Biden administration’s diminished international standing as a result of the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan in August, which led to the deaths of 13 U.S. soldiers and hundreds of civilians, as well as longer-term consequences of leaving tens of thousands of Afghan allies behind under the new Taliban government. “This ongoing debacle, met with deafening silence by your two-faced woke-brigade supporters who would have destroyed Trump if he’d been responsible, has sent the world a message that America can no longer be trusted,” Morgan said.
“No wonder Vladimir Putin is licking his lips at the chance to invade Ukraine.”
“Mr. President, you keep saying you want to ‘Build Back Better!’ but America’s now in a worse position than it was before you were elected — ravaged by the virus, a battered economy, rising violent crime and deteriorating border issues,” Morgan continued. “People feel poorer, sicker and less safe.”
“That’s why your approval ratings are tanking so badly, why the Democrats are heading for [a Congressional] wipeout in the November midterms, and why Trump has legitimate reason to think he can beat you in 2024 to reclaim the presidency he so wrongly claims was stolen from him.”
Morgan affirmed his belief that Biden is not a bad man, but that many Americans are looking to him in tumultuous times and are asking “why him?” So far, Morgan wrote, Biden has “singularly failed to provide a convincing answer.”
“You exuded great hope a year ago, but that’s been wrecked by dithering, blathering, blundering reality,” Morgan concluded.
“Wake up, Joe, or you’re going to sleep-walk into the next election lamer than any lame-duck president ever, and the disgruntled American people will be voting for a divorce — and quite possibly getting back with their ex.”
