On Tuesday night, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has championed mask mandates in the past, apparently violated the indoor mask mandate implemented by Washington D.C. mayor Muriel Bowser as she went maskless indoors at a bar.

Video obtained by The Daily Caller shows Pelosi with Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-NY) in a bar called “Swingers.”

The  Washington D.C. indoor mask mandate, as updated on September 23, reads:

Masking rules:

Everyone (including fully vaccinated people) must wear masks:

UPDATE: in indoor public settings

This includes any business or establishment open to members of the public (including but not limited to: grocery stores, restaurants and bars (when not eating or drinking), places of worship, gyms, office buildings, libraries, indoor entertainment venues, and common areas of apartment or condominium complexes).

On Tuesday, Bowser announced that on Monday, November 22, the District’s indoor mask mandate would be lifted, writing:

Instead of following a blanket mandate, residents, visitors, and workers will be advised to follow risk-based guidance from DC Health that accounts for current health metrics and a person’s vaccination status. Updated guidance will be posted on in the coming days. DC Health reminds residents that the strongest protection against COVID-19 is to get vaccinated, and encourages all people, regardless of vaccination status, to consider their risk factors and surroundings carefully when choosing layered mitigations strategies (e.g., wearing a mask, social distancing).

Masks will still be required, regardless of vaccination status, in the following circumstances:

  • Any private business that wants a mask requirement;
  • On public transport like buses and trains, inside train stations, in airports, and while in ride share vehicles;
  • Inside schools, childcare facilities, and libraries;
  • Congregate facilities, such as nursing homes/assisted living facilities, shelters, dorms/residences, and correctional facilities; and
  • In DC Government facilities where there is direct interaction between employees and the public (e.g., DMV service center; DHS service center, etc.).

In late July, Pelosi ripped House minority leader Kevin McCarthy, saying, “He’s such a moron” after he had slammed Congress’s new mask requirement. McCarthy had tweeted, “Make no mistake — The threat of bringing masks back is not a decision based on science, but a decision conjured up by liberal government officials who want to continue to live in a perpetual pandemic state.”

In August, The New York Post reported, “Nancy Pelosi was apparently caught addressing an outdoor crowd of mask-less Democratic big wigs in COVID-19-riddled Napa Valley over the weekend, according to video and tweets. A clip of the close-quartered fundraiser was posted on Facebook by Democratic Party donor and winemaker Kathryn Walt Hall — and promptly blasted out on Twitter.”

“All the servants fully masked,” tweeted journalist Glenn Greenwald. “The almost-entirely old, white, rich crowd of DCCC donors free to go maskless as they’re served.”

McCarthy reacted, “Speaker Pelosi wants to lock you down again while she wines and dines with her political donors. It’s utter hypocrisy.”
