Ocasio-Cortez Called Out For Ignoring Sri Lanka Attacks, Says Criticism Is An Attack On Her Faith

Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) claimed her faith was being attacked on Sunday after she was called out by senior White House adviser Kellyanne Conway for ignoring the Easter day Islamic terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka on Christian churches that resulted in hundreds of deaths.

Conway called out Ocasio-Cortez on CNN on Sunday after Ocasio-Cortez had been radio silent since the horrific Sri Lanka attacks took place. Ocasio-Cortez’s continued silence over the attacks came despite the fact that many prominent figures in the media had been calling out the congresswoman for days over her silence after she rushed to politicize the New Zealand mosque attacks last month.

“On Easter I was away from tech visiting my grandmother in Puerto Rico, which continues to suffer from the White House’s incompetent disaster response,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. “Are you trying to imply that I am less Christian? What was the point of you bringing this up on national TV?”

Conway quickly responded to Ocasio-Cortez’s tweet, writing: “Hi Congresswoman @AOC. My best to your grandmother. My grandmothers are irreplaceable; miss them every day. Good that you now condemn Sri Lanka massacre. Some found it odd a prolific tweeter was silent. Following day you tweeted about your movie: [link to tweet]”

Conway correctly noted that Ocasio-Cortez was on Twitter following the shooting and was promoting herself and her Netflix show.

“Before my primary, three women & I agreed to film our journey of trying to run for office without big money,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. “Now, #KnockDownTheHouse hits Netflix & select theaters next week, May 1st. To find or host a local community screening, follow: @knockdownmovie.”

Following the New Zealand mosque attacks last month, Ocasio-Cortez tweeted approximately 14 times about the attacks as she pushed for her far-left gun control agenda.

Others also called out Ocasio-Cortez’s response, including Republican strategist Andrew Surabian, who tweeted: “Weird, because it looks like the day after the Sri Lanka attack occurred you had enough time & tech to send out a tweet promoting your upcoming @netflix documentary…But nothing for hundreds killed in Sri Lanka? Come up with a better lie next time.”

Ocasio-Cortez immediately sought to deflect from the issue at hand and instead went on the attack against the Trump administration for the mess in Puerto Rico, despite the repeated problems that have come from Puerto Rican officials. She then claimed that Conway was trying to cause suspicion around her alleged “Christain” faith.

“You are using this as an excuse to stoke suspicion around my Christianity + faith life, @KellyannePolls,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. “The Sri Lanka massacre was horrifying. No one should be targeted for their religion. If you’re so moved, let’s do more to welcome immigrants fleeing religious persecution.”

Ocasio-Cortez had been called out all week for ignoring the attacks including by British news personality Piers Morgan, who tweeted: “Twitter-obsessed @AOC posted 14 times about the terror attack on Muslims in New Zealand, but has posted nothing about the terror attack on Christians by Muslim extremists in Sri Lanka. Very odd.”
