New Poll: Huge Percentage Of GOP Voters ‘Extremely Proud’ To Be Americans. Democrats? Don’t Ask.

A new Gallup poll has disturbing news: the percentage of respondents claiming they were “extremely proud” to be American was the lowest since Gallup started asking that question in 2001.

Only 45% of respondents said they were “extremely proud to be American.” Unsurprisingly, only 22% of respondents claiming they were Democrats agreed with that sentiment as opposed to a whopping 76% of Republicans. 41% of independents said they were “extremely proud.”

Only a slight difference was found between men and women; 48% of men said they were “extremely proud” while 43% of women agreed. But an enormous chasm separated older respondents from younger ones; 63% of adults over 65 agreed they felt “extremely proud” while only 24% of those between 18 and 29 agreed.

70% of respondents agreed they were simply proud to be Americans.

Gallup noted of the “extremely proud” sentiment among Americans in general: “The highest readings on the measure, 69% and 70%, were between 2002 and 2004, after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, when the American public expressed high levels of patriotism and rallied around the U.S. government. Yet, since the start of George W. Bush’s second presidential term in 2005, fewer than 60% of Americans have expressed extreme pride in being American.” Gallup noted that the highest percentage for Republicans of being “extremely proud” occurred in 2003, when a staggering 86% of Republicans felt that way.

Gallup added a new question for the poll; how proud respondents were of various aspects of American society. American scientific achievements led the way with 91% of respondents saying they were proud, followed by the U.S. military (89%), American culture and arts (85%), economic (75%) and sporting (73%) achievements, and diversity in race, ethnic background, and religion (72%).

The lack of pride in America was reported by The Daily Wire last December:

A new poll conducted for the Foundation for Liberty and American Greatness(FLAG) found that a huge percentage of younger Americans are expressing their disdain for American ideals; almost half believe America isn’t great, and roughly 20% think the American flag is “a sign of intolerance and hatred.” 29% were okay with burning the American flag.

The poll, conducted by YouGov.com, surveyed 1,078 Americans under the age of 38. Its disturbing findings, as reported by the Washington Examiner, included the astonishing claim by 44% of respondents that Barack Obama had a “bigger impact” on the United States than President George Washington, the man who led the successful revolution against Great Britain, presided over the writing of the Constitution, served as the country’s first president, and took the historically unprecedented action of stepping down from leading his country to ensure a peaceful transition of power.

More disturbing findings: “Younger Americans (under 38 – Gen Z and Millennials) are becoming unmoored from the institutions, knowledge, and spirit traditionally associated with American patriotism,” the survey analysis said.

FLAG noted:

Half of those surveyed believe the United States is sexist (50%) and racist (49%); 46% of younger Americans do not agree that “America is the greatest country in the world”; 38% of younger Americans do not agree that “America has a history that we should be proud of”; 14% of millennials agree that “America was never a great country and it never will be”; 38% felt that “America is more racist than other countries.”
