New Book Fantasizes About Hillary’s Life If She Hadn’t Married Bill

On Monday, Random House announced it will publish author Curtis Sittenfeld’s fictionalized story about Hillary Rodham “in which (as she does in real life) she turns down marriage proposals from Bill Clinton, then ultimately turns him down once and for all, and how her life spins out from there.” According to USA Today, the book will be released in 2019.

Hillary had admitted in an interview with Girls creator Lena Dunham’s Lenny Letter newsletter in 2015, that she spurned Bill twice because she thought her identity would be submerged in his quest for power. She said, “I was terrified about losing my identity and getting lost in the kind of wake of Bill’s force-of-nature personality,” but continued that she eventually capitulated as she took a “leap of faith … I mean, you really do just sort of say, OK, I think I know what it’s gonna be like, but I don’t know for sure. Let’s find out.”
