Some white leftists are reportedly offending Native Americans protesting North Dakota’s Access Pipeline at Standing Rock by joining the Native Americans and using their supplies and living off of the Native American community.
One protester, Alicia Smith, wrote on Facebook:
On my way back from the camps. Need to get something off my chest that I witnessed and found very disturbing in my brief time there that I believe many others have started to speak up about as well. White people are colonizing the camps. I mean that seriously. Plymouth rock seriously. They are coming in, taking food, clothing and occupying space without any desire to participate in camp maintenance and without respect of tribal protocols. These people are treating it like it is Burning Man or The Rainbow Gathering and I even witnessed several wandering in and out of camps comparing it to those festivals.
Smith said the leftist white protesters were sponging off of the native American community and taking advantage of donations.
Another protester issued a warning for the white protesters taking advantage:
The North Dakota Pipeline is expected to be a 1,170-mile long pipeline traveling across four states. Energy Transfer Partners, which is building the pipeline, says there should be no leaks, and the area through which the pipeline will travel has no archaeological significance. The Army Corps sent a letter to activists ordering them to shut down one of their camps by December 5.
US authorities said on Sunday they would not forcibly remove activists.
