Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) fired back at “The View” on Tuesday after several of the ABC show’s liberal co-hosts leveled racially-charged attacks against him.
Scott, who recently made an official announcement declaring his candidacy for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, was responding to a segment from Tuesday’s broadcast of the ABC midday talk show, during which white co-host Joy Behar had claimed that neither Scott nor black conservative Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas “understood” what it was really like to be black in America.

“[Tim Scott] is one of these guys who — you know, he’s like Clarence Thomas — a black Republican who believes in pulling yourself by your bootstraps rather than, to me, understanding the systemic racism that African Americans face in this country and other minorities,” Behar said. “He doesn’t get it. Neither does Clarence, and that’s why they’re Republicans.”
Co-host Whoopi Goldberg agreed with Behar’s assessment, saying that Scott had “Clarence Thomas Syndrome.” Sunny Hostin complained that Scott assumed other black Americans could make it because he had — and she argued that was not the case.
But Scott told Fox News there was “no question my life disproves the lies of the radical Left” — and he argued that contrary to what Hostin had claimed, he was an example of the rule rather than the exception.
Citing his grandfather – an illiterate cotton field worker – Scott said he was told growing up, “You can be bitter or better, but you can’t be both.”
“Meekness is not weakness. I believe in the Gospel. I believe Matthew 5:44 says ‘Love your enemies’ — [but] if you break in my house, I also believe in the Second Amendment,” Scott said.
“We have to ignore the far Left by disproving their lies by our actions. Here’s the funny thing: The host, Sunny, she wants to be judged by the content of her character, not the color of her skin. The fact of the matter is America is a story of evolution – a never told story of evolution in too many of our schools that are indoctrinating our kids instead of educating our kids.”
