Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) delivered a Bible-based — and very personal — Father&#8217;s Day message specifically aimed at children who were growing up without fathers.
Scott joined CNN anchor Jake Tapper on Sunday morning&#8217;s broadcast of &#8220;State of the Union,&#8221; where he talked about the fact that he&#8217;d grown up from the age of seven without his own father present — and then, when he married, he&#8217;d become a stepfather to his new wife&#8217;s adult children.
He spoke about <a href="https://x.com/CNNSOTU/status/2068700521251119222">advice</a> from a pastor, who&#8217;d reminded him that he had to &#8220;earn the right to influence&#8221; the lives of the adult children in his newly-blended family — and he said that advice had so far served him well. But then Tapper asked what advice he had for fathers — or for those who might be living without a father.

&#8220;On this Father&#8217;s Day, what&#8217;s your message to all the people out there, either the dads or the people who don&#8217;t have dads?&#8221; Tapper asked.
&#8220;If you are without a father, do not think that his absence somehow makes you less qualified to do anything. You are fearfully and wonderfully made,&#8221; Scott said, quoting Psalm 139:14. &#8220;But it is your responsibility at a certain age to take responsibility of your life and to make the most out of it.&#8221;
&#8220;Do not let your dad&#8217;s absence be an excuse for doing something that you will later regret,&#8221; he added.
Scott told Tapper that even though his own father had left when he was young, he&#8217;d always felt motivated to go out and make him proud.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent took a swing at liberal media network MS NOW — referring to it by its previous name, MSNBC — prompting laughs from Chairman Tim Scott (R-SC) along with several others in Thursday&#8217;s Senate Banking Committee hearing.
Bessent was taking questions from the committee on the economy during President Donald Trump&#8217;s first year in office, and he made the argument that public sentiment — and consumer confidence — could easily be influenced by dishonest media narratives.

Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE) noted that consumer confidence did not appear to match the numbers coming from recent economic reports — and asked Bessent to identify where the disconnect might be and explain what could be done to bring people around.
&#8220;Despite all this progress, we&#8217;re seeing consumer confidence is not really rebounding the way that the economy seems to be,&#8221; Ricketts said. &#8220;In your opinion, what more can we in the Senate be doing with regard to consumer confidence and, you know, obviously, we had 40-year high inflation under the Biden administration. What more could we be doing in the Senate … to be able to help out with confidence … of consumers?&#8221;
&#8220;Other than telling consumers to turn off MSNBC,&#8221; Bessent began, prompting several loud laughs. &#8220;A large part of it is a survey problem, where Democrats vote very low and Republicans are more realistic, and then we end up — what we are seeing —&#8221;
Scott interrupted them to explain that the time had expired for Senator Ricketts and it was time to move on with the hearing.
&#8220;I appreciate your comments, believe me,&#8221; Scott said to Bessent with a chuckle.
Bessent also sparred with Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), who asked him during Thursday&#8217;s hearing whether he agreed with President Donald Trump about the &#8220;affordability crisis&#8221; being a &#8220;hoax.&#8221;
Bessent carefully explained — more than once — that the Trump administration&#8217;s position was not that the affordability crisis was a hoax. He argued instead that the &#8220;hoax&#8221; was a reference to Democrat efforts to spin a real crisis of their own making — during former President Joe Biden&#8217;s administration — as something brand new that was wholly created and owned by President Trump.

The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear a Republican challenge to campaign finance regulations that restricts political parties from coordinating campaign spending with political candidates.
The challenge from the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) argues that restricting the amount parties can spend in coordination with candidates violates the First Amendment by restricting speech. The court is expected to hear arguments on the case when its fall 2025 term begins.
&#8220;The government should not restrict a party committee&#8217;s support for its own candidates. These coordinated expenditure limits violate the First Amendment, and we appreciate the Court&#8217;s decision to hear our case,&#8221; <a href="https://x.com/NRSC/status/1939735374395232752" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> NRSC Chair Tim Scott and National Republican Congressional Committee Chair Richard Hudson. &#8220;Coordinated spending continues to be a critical part of winning campaigns, and the NRSC and NRCC will ensure we are in the strongest possible position to win in 2026 and beyond.&#8221;
The case was originally brought by the NRSC and now-Vice President J.D. Vance back in 2022 in a challenge to restrictions on coordinated spending introduced by the 1972 Federal Election Campaign Act.
In September 2024, the restrictions were <a href="https://www.opn.ca6.uscourts.gov/opinions.pdf/24a0212p-06.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">upheld</a> by the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. In its decision, the appeals court said that the NRSC made “fair points” about speech restrictions; it could not side with them because of previous Supreme Court precedent.
The precedent in question was the 2001 FEC vs. Colorado Republican Federal Campaign Committee decision, which ruled that limits on coordinated spending do not violate the First Amendment.

“The key reality is that the Supreme Court has not overruled the 2001 Colorado decision or the deferential review it applied to these provisions of the Act. In a hierarchical legal system, we must follow that decision and thus must deny the plaintiffs’ First Amendment facial and as applied challenges,” the Sixth Circuit Court wrote in its September decision.
In its December 2024 <a href="https://www.supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/24/24-621/333312/20241204134722325_NRSC%20v.%20FEC%20Cert%20Petition.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">petition</a> to the Supreme Court, the NRSC said that Congress &#8220;has built a wall of separation between party and candidate, forcing party committees to figure out how to get their candidates elected without hearing from them.”
“Should this Court decline to take this case, future litigants will interpret that decision as proof that, whatever the Court has said in more recent campaign-finance cases, it is content to leave the political parties as second-class holders of First Amendment rights,” they wrote.
The Trump administration has signaled support for the challenge, while the Supreme Court allowed the Democratic National Committee to intervene in support of the campaign finance restrictions.

Republican lawmakers are demanding that the Biden administration provide answers on which China-sponsored group it believes is responsible for <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/chinese-hackers-breach-treasury-dept-in-major-cyber-security-incident" target="_blank" rel="noopener">successfully hacking</a> the Treasury Department last month. 
Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) and Rep. French Hill (R-AR) demanded this week that Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen brief them on the breach of department employee workstations and the unclassified documents stored on them. Scott is the top Republican on the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, while Hill is the vice chair of the House Committee on Financial Services. 
“This breach of federal government information is extremely concerning,” the lawmakers <a href="https://www.banking.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/lettertosecretaryyellenonccpcyberbreach.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a> on Tuesday. “As you know, Treasury maintains some of the most highly sensitive information on U.S. persons throughout government, including tax information, business beneficial ownership, and suspicious activity reports.”
“This information must be vigilantly protected from theft or surveillance by our foreign adversaries, including the Chinese Communist Party (&#8216;CCP&#8217;), who seek to harm the United States,” Scott and Hill added. “As such, the fact that a CCP-sponsored APT actor was able to access Treasury’s information systems is unacceptable and raises serious questions about the protocols for safeguarding sensitive federal government information from future cybersecurity incidents.”
The Treasury Department first publicly commented on the hack on Tuesday but said it was first notified of the breach on December 8. In a letter to senators, Assistant Secretary for Management Aditi Hardikar noted that the department believed a Chinese-backed intelligence group was behind the breach, calling it a “major cyber security incident.”
Hardikar added that the department believed China could no longer access its systems. 
In response, Scott and Hill want the Treasury Department to provide a briefing on the hacking no later than January 10. The briefing should provide more specific information on who the department believes was behind the breach and the extent of the information accessed. They also want details on what specific preventive measures have been taken to prevent similar incidents. 
China has denied involvement with the breach. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said the accusation was “groundless” and lacked evidence. 
China has previously been accused of being behind major hacking operations targeting the American government, including <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/china-based-hackers-accessed-60k-u-s-state-dept-emails-in-microsoft-breach-senate-staffer-says" target="_blank" rel="noopener">one breach</a> that accessed tens of thousands of emails from State Department employees.

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) said during an interview over the weekend that he believes former President Donald Trump is going to win on Tuesday and Republicans are going to flip seats in key U.S. Senate races.
Scott made the remarks during a Sunday interview on CNN&#8217;s &#8220;State of the Union&#8221; with host Dana Bash when pressed on the final 48 hours of the race.
&#8220;I will just tell you that the voters I sat down with in Detroit, Michigan, on Tuesday, Ohio on Wednesday, and Philly on Thursday — African-Americans, Hispanics, Jewish voters all seem to have momentum behind Donald Trump,&#8221; he said.
&#8220;It&#8217;s going to be a very, very good day for Donald Trump on Tuesday,&#8221; Scott said.
The senator then named some of the U.S. Senate races that he believes Republicans will win.
&#8220;And, frankly, McCormick will win Pennsylvania without question,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Bernie Moreno will win Ohio. And I&#8217;m really confident that Mike Rogers will win Michigan as well.&#8221;
&#8220;And the reason why is that the voters are listening to our closing arguments on the border,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;They&#8217;re listening to it on crime. They&#8217;re really excited about school choice.&#8221;

Tim Scott: Tuesday Is Going To Be A ‘Very, Very Good’ Day For Trump

Well, the RNC is over! And I think we’ve seen just about enough of what the Republican party has been reduced to under the so-called leadership of Donald Trump. It’s time for America to choose. Do we want a courageous leader like Joe Biden, who when he falls down, gets back up — whether he falls down going up a flight of stairs or trying to go up the flight of stairs again or even just walking across a room — he gets back up as many times as it takes to cross that room.
Or do we want to descend to the level of a man like Donald Trump who when he falls down — because, you know, he’s been shot in the head by a bullet from an AR-15 sniper rifle — sure, he gets back up, but then he spits the bullet out, and shakes his fist at death and shouts, “Fight, fight, fight,” which frankly is just divisive.
I, for one, was appalled by the RNC and its rampant display of Christian white nationalism, and Sikh white nationalism, and bi-racial rapper woman white nationalism, and even black white nationalism from people like Tim Scott who has so internalized white supremacy that he expects to be treated just like everybody else. It’s disgusting.
And then there was Vivek Ramaswamy — and who even knows what the hell color he is with a name like that. It must be seven syllables at least, the guy could be purple for all we know. And this Rama whatever-his-name-is had the gall to stand up at the RNC and say that Americans should be able to disagree with one another openly and then still treat each other with respect, which is against everything the Democrat party stands for. Democrats understand that here in America, people are free to disagree with us, then be called racist, then be banned from YouTube and other social media, then be summoned to HR, fired from their jobs, and have their homes raided in the early morning hours by armed federal agents so they can be charged with any crime we can drum up, then spend the rest of their lives being harassed by screeching men with pink hair, face piercings and tattoos, who are taking female hormones until they turn into screeching women with pink hair, face piercings and tattoos who are indistinguishable from all the other Democrat voters.
We will not allow some purple-faced Vivek Hamahooney to weaponize the First Amendment by using it to give a voice to people with other opinions than our own. That’s not who we are as Americans.

And sure, we couldn’t understand what he was saying half the time either, but the point is, he was setting a good example by sitting right there in close proximity to an almost black man and condemning Donald Trump for saying there would be a bloodbath and there were good people on both sides of the Charlottesville riots. And it was incredibly inspiring to see how Lester Holt respected this president so much that he didn’t once interrupt him to point out that none of that was true, which is what we expect from journalists. Because as Democrats, we believe that, if you don’t nod with servile conformity while we’re lying to you, you ain’t black. Or whatever Lester Holt is, you ain’t that either. Basically, if you don’t nod with servile conformity while we’re lying to you, as far as we’re concerned, you ain’t a journalist at all, no matter what color you are.
So in conclusion, I am personally calling for four more years of Joe Biden, or whatever fraction of that time he’s got left. Because as President Biden himself said in his speech to the NAACP, “This country is gala-zeeben anyway to garoon the finchin fanchin booben deebee dobby.” And that’s exactly why President Biden will remain the Democrat candidate. Because we Democrats know that if you ever understand what we’re actually saying, we’re in deep trouble.

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) said over the weekend that President Joe Biden is the greatest threat to democracy that the U.S. faces — not former President Donald Trump.
Scott made the remarks during a Sunday ABC News interview with Jonathan Karl on &#8220;This Week&#8221; while talking about the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.
Scott said that he believes that any of the rioters who attacked police officers should face punishments for their actions.
&#8220;The question is for those nonviolent folks who sat outside, who actually simply protested or came into the Capitol because the doors were open, and created no crime, no challenges, those folks today sitting crime in pretrial. That&#8217;s a devastation,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Some of those have been in pretrial incarcerated for longer than the sentence attached to that crime.&#8221;
&#8220;The greatest threat to democracy today is Joe Biden,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;It started back when he became president. We saw a botched Afghanistan withdrawal where 13 Americans lost their lives. We&#8217;ve seen a wide-open, insecure, unsafe southern border with sleeper cells likely in our country, over 100,000 Chinese nationals crossing our southern border, men from Yemen, Iraq, and Afghanistan now populating our country. Part of the 10 million illegal immigrant invasion.&#8221;

Tim Scott: ‘The Greatest Threat To Democracy Today Is Joe Biden’

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) defended former President Donald Trump during a combative interview over the weekend with a partisan news host.
Scott&#8217;s Sunday interview with Jonathan Karl on ABC News&#8217; &#8220;This Week&#8221; started out with the vice presidential hopeful hitting President Joe Biden over the violent crime that has rocked inner cities throughout his administration.
&#8220;What we need to focus on is the violence that we&#8217;re seeing across this nation,&#8221; Scott said. &#8220;Under Joe Biden we&#8217;ve seen the greatest increase in violent crime in my lifetime. And so focusing on ways for us to reduce that crime means getting four more years of Donald Trump. Under Donald Trump we actually respected law enforcement. Under Joe Biden, we&#8217;ve seen the movement to defund the police, leaving communities like the one I grew up in devastated and ravaged by a wave of violent crime that we have not seen literally in five decades.&#8221;
Karl claimed that violent crime was &#8220;actually down&#8221;, which is only <a href="https://www.themarshallproject.org/2023/11/03/violent-crime-property-data-nibrs-ucr-fbi-2022">partially</a> true. The statement also fails to put things into context, namely that violent crime is up under Biden even if it came down from his previous high a year earlier.
&#8220;Let&#8217;s take a look at those crime rates,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We&#8217;ve seen over 4,000 shootings just in the city of Chicago. We&#8217;ve seen a spike in violent crime. It&#8217;s nice to see something plateau.&#8221;
He said that neighborhoods like the ones he grew up in never had the crime problems that they face today as mothers today are &#8220;trapped in their houses from the time the sun goes down until it comes up again.&#8221;
He said that the American people want the southern border closed after &#8220;10 million illegal immigrants have invaded our country&#8221; and people want to see strong U.S. foreign policy again.

Tim Scott Defends Trump During Combative ABC News Interview

Sen. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/tim-scott" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tim Scott</a> (R-SC) slammed far-left commentator Elie Mystal on Friday after Mystal claimed this week that black Republicans existed solely because &#8220;the grift is good.&#8221;
Mystal made the remarks during an appearance on MSNBC&#8217;s &#8220;The ReidOut&#8221; with controversial host Joy Reid while discussing the latest left-wing hit piece to be published against conservative Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
Scott responded to the remarks during a Fox News interview on Friday with Trace Gallagher.
&#8220;Hear me clearly, they are shaking in their boots,&#8221; Scott said. &#8220;What you hear is fear. It&#8217;s palpable. Why? Because without the black vote, there is no Democrat Party. President Trump is not playing racial politics, but he is aware that America builds a better future together. He is aware that making sure that all Americans have a chance to live their version of the American dream, it&#8217;s good for our country.&#8221;
&#8220;So absolutely, the Left, they&#8217;re losing their minds because they&#8217;re losing their voters,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;It&#8217;s good news for our future, and it&#8217;s great news for right now. We must win because September and October, the Democrats are going to pull out all stops. They are going to do things including lying and cheating without any question.&#8221;

Former President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump&#8217;s</a> campaign has reportedly requested documents from several individuals who he is considering to be his vice presidential running mate.
Among those who have so far received requests are North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), and former cabinet member Ben Carson.
Those listed may not be the only ones who have contacted thus far as ABC News <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/vp-contenders-burgum-vance-rubio-asked-documents-trump/story?id=110870278" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that &#8220;others are likely to be considered for the No. 2 job.&#8221; The Associated Press <a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-vp-paperwork-vetting-b1e21a7e9eae7141c4f144735671b330" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that the list is &#8220;fluid and evolving,&#8221; meaning that it will likely change as Trump sees fit.
A Trump campaign spokesperson said that &#8220;anyone claiming to know who or when President Trump will choose his VP is lying, unless the person is named Donald J. Trump.&#8221;
Polling last month from an I&amp;I/TIPP Poll indicated that 15% of Republican voters choose Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as their first choice for VP, while 14% choose him as their second choice for VP — both numbers were the highest of all the candidates listed.
Out of the candidates who were listed by the Associated Press, Carson had the highest ranking for first choice in the poll at 5%, followed by Scott at 4%, Rubio at 2%, and the remaining contenders at 1% or less.
Another name that has generated headlines in recent weeks and might be moving up Trump&#8217;s board for contenders is Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR), especially after his <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/tom-cotton-blasts-manhattan-prosecution-theres-no-question-donald-trump-should-win-on-appeal" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passionate defense</a> of Trump during a Sunday interview on NBC News.

When asked during the interview if he would accept the job offer, Cotton responded: &#8220;Any great patriot, if offered a chance to serve our country by the president, would have to consider it seriously. But what I’m focused on, like the president, is making sure that we win this election in November, and I want to help him govern successfully to restore the peace and prosperity that he brought to America for four years that Joe Biden has destroyed.&#8221;

Numerous rumored top Republican vice presidential candidates reacted strongly to the guilty verdict in the controversial criminal trial against former President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> on Thursday, warning that the case sets a dangerous precedent for the country.
The decision is the culmination of a weeks-long courtroom battle in which Trump said that he was the target of a “political persecution” — a point that was seemingly validated when President Joe Biden sent his campaign to hold a political event outside the courthouse this week as he runs another campaign for a second term in the White House. The former president was found guilty on all 34 charges brought in the hush-money trial.
&#8220;Absolute injustice. This erodes our justice system,&#8221; said Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) in a post on X that included a video of him slamming Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who is backed by Democrat megadonor George Soros.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) said that the verdict was &#8220;a complete travesty that makes a mockery of our system of justice.&#8221;
