One of the radio stations that interviewed President Joe Biden following his disastrous debate performance against former President Donald Trump admitted this week that it cut out remarks from the president that made him look bad after his campaign called and requested it.

Civic Media, a Wisconsin-based far-left talk-radio network, said that the decision by “The Earl Ingram Show” to make the cuts from Biden’s interview with host Earl Ingram fell short of “journalistic interview standards.”

“On Monday, July 8th, it was reported to Civic Media management that immediately after the phone interview was recorded, the Biden campaign called and asked for two edits to the recording before it aired,” the station said in a statement.

The two sets of remarks that Biden made that the radio station cut out were:

  • At time 5:20, the removal of “…and in addition to that, I have more Blacks in my administration than any other president, all other presidents combined, and in major positions, cabinet positions.”
  • At time 14:15, in reference to Donald Trump’s call for the death penalty for the Central Park Five, the removal of “I don’t know if they even call for their hanging or not, but he–but they said […] convicted of murder.”

The station said that the show’s judgement was wrong “both with respect to the handling of the interview questions and the decision to edit the interview audio.”

“We have taken this opportunity as a new media organization to clarify our internal policies to ensure that everyone in the organization understands the standards we expect for live and pre-recorded interviews, particularly for commentators and other non-news personnel,” the station said. “A policy defining Civic Media’s content and production standards for non-news programming that covers our opinion content, including The Earl Ingram Show, is in the process of being reviewed and finalized, based in part on our published Civic Media News Ethics and Standards that applies to hard news.”

However, the station said that it would still stand by Ingram, even after he admitted last week to using the questions that Biden’s campaign gave him to interview the president.

Another radio host who interviewed Biden and used the questions that were provided by his campaign is no longer employed by the station she worked at.
