Miley Cyrus spoke candidly about her past as part of a new TikTok series she’s promoting that’s inspired by her new single, “Used To Be Young.”

The 30-year-old singer and actress said she plans to “start at the beginning” and share “untold stories” from her past.

“Sometimes it feels like my life started when Hannah Montana was born,” Miley wrote in the Instagram post on Sunday announcing the project. “But before Hannah there was Miley. My fantasy was to light up the world with laughter, music & iconic moments that last beyond my lifetime. Decades later I continue to fulfill my purpose because of the love provided by my fans.”

In one of the TikTok clips she talked about her father, country star Billy Ray Cyrus, and how he had a very different path to fame.

“My dad grew up the opposite of me. I grew up on a soundstage, like in a house with a family who was super close and all lived under the same roof, and I grew up financially stable and emotionally stable, I think, in my relationships also,” Miley says. “That’s something that my dad didn’t have.”

“Him feeling loved by a big audience impacted him emotionally more than it ever could me. When he feels special or important, it’s like healing a childhood wound, and I’ve always been made to feel like a star,” she continued. “It makes me emotional, so I think that’s the difference.”

In another clip, the “Flowers” singer discussed her decision to stop touring and why she believes it “isn’t healthy” for her.

“What people don’t really understand about touring is the show is only 90 minutes, but that’s your life,” Miley said in a video posted Sunday. “If you’re performing at a certain level of intensity and excellence, there should be an equal amount of recovery and rest.”

“There’s a level of ego that has to play a part, that I feel gets overused when I’m on tour and once that switches on, it’s hard to turn it off,” she continued. “And I think when you’re training your ego every single night to be active, that’s the hardest switch for me to turn off.”

“Having every day the relationship between you and other humans being subject and observer isn’t healthy for me, because it erases my humanity and my connection and without my humanity [and] my connection I can’t be a songwriter, which is my priority,” Miley concluded.
