Megyn Kelly brought the receipts after host Don Lemon said that he didn’t think CNN “was ever liberal” as she blasted the CNN host for his “revisionist history” before playing a clip of his past comments.
During the Sirius XM “The Megyn Kelly Show” podcast on Wednesday, the host was joined by the guys from the “Ruthless” podcast — Josh Holmes, Michael Duncan, and John Ashbrook — and she played a clip of Lemon, on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” disputing claims the network “was ever liberal.” In the video, Colbert noted reports about new CEO Chris Licht pushing the network to be “more centrist” and suggested that hosts were “not allowed to be liberal anymore.”
Kelly explained that when Lemon said CNN wants “only sensible Republicans” to come on the network, what he meant was “anti-MAGA and anti-[former President Donald] Trump.”
The host then repeated Lemon’s comments saracastically, saying, “they’ve never been liberal. See, they’ve always been above board, trying to hold people to account, right? Wasn’t that your experience watching CNN for the past six years?”
Holmes said during 2016, after Trump became president, he stopped making appearances on the network because he said he would be “castigated” on air if a person didn’t slam the administration.
The former Fox News host then played a long clip of comments Lemon made that contradicted his claim that he’s only ever shown “good journalism” and that he advocated for exchanges where people could “disagree without being disagreeable.”
“There’s one party, right now that’s not operating in fact,” Lemon said, “that has been misleading people and that is the Republican Party. ”
In another set of clips Lemon said, “Republicans are doing something that is very dangerous for our society” and “There is no reason to believe the Republicans are going to start playing fairly and are going to start operating as a party of sanity.”
“You voted for the person who the klan supported,” he added in another clip. “You voted for the person who Nazis support. You voted for the person who the alt right supports.”
Lemon continued in more clips, “You have to stop demonizing people and realize the biggest terror threat in this country is white men,” and, “We have to stop coddling people when it comes to this and the vaccine saying ‘oh, you can’t shame them. You can’t call them stupid’… yes they are.”
“There is bringing receipts and then there is bringing a CVS-length receipt, and that is what Megyn Kelly brought for us today,” Ashbrook replied as they all laughed.
“This is a joke and this is directly why that long clip is exactly why hundreds of employees are being laid off at CNN today, they abandoned their fealty to journalism,” Kelly explained.
