Matthew McConaughey’s wife Camila Alves said the image many people have of her superstar husband as a “laid back,” “getting high” guy is false and said he’s completely opposite of that person.
During the 41-year-old model/entrepreneur’s appearance on “Southern Living’s Biscuits & Jam” podcast, the 53-year-old actor’s wife said that he’s not at all like who fans think he is and is much more like his mom, actress Kay McConaughey, than anything.
“When we first start dating, it was this image of Matthew of getting high, laid back, no shirt, whatever,” Alves told the host.

“Which I’m like, ‘The guy doesn’t even smoke. What is this vision coming from?'” she added.
“He’s actually the opposite, and he’s like his mom,” McConaughey’s wife continued. “She’s very organized, very minimalistic, very on time, very prepared, and he gets a lot of those traits from her.”
Camila and Matthew tied the knot in 2012 and the couple share three children together, People noted.
Alves previously talked about the couple’s decision to move out of California to Texas to raise their three kids in a life that “embodies” their “belief system.”
“It really embodies our belief system, especially the ones I grew up with, like going to church every Sunday, saying ‘yes ma’am’ or ‘no, sir,'” Camila said.
“I grew up saying those things coming from a family of farmers,” she added. “For me, being from Brazil and then coming to Texas, I discovered a lot of similarities in terms of what families practice here, especially going to church on Sundays, and being very into the outdoors. It’s been a great transition.”
“We lived in Malibu for many years and having the paparazzi outside our door every day — every single day — when that becomes your normal, you don’t realize how much that’s actually affecting the things you do until you actually leave and get out of it,” the superstar actor’s wife continued. “The kids get to have a private way of growing up. So from that perspective, it was very important.”
Alves also talked about the challenges of making time for date nights with her husband, which she said sometimes means the couple just steals away for a minute to reconnect.
“Sometimes it’s as simple as a staycation,” Camila said. “Or, ‘I’m sending the kids over to a family member, so we can stay home and have a drink together.’
“I have this thing — we have a tree on our property,” she added. “I sometimes say to Matt, ‘Let’s meet today before dinner and watch the sunset under the tree.’ We’ll just sit under the tree and have a drink together. It’s about sharing those simple little moments together in between everything that’s going on. It’s about those little moments to keep reconnecting.”
