Podcast giant Joe Rogan said Wednesday that face masks were like the Democrats’ version of former President Donald Trump’s signature red MAGA hat.

Rogan delivered the offhand remark after learning that the face masks — which are still mandated in a number of areas across the United States — take longer to biodegrade in landfills than a styrofoam cup.

“Here’s — it’s almost crazier,” Rogan’s guest, surfer Shane Dorian began. “A styrofoam cup takes 50 years to biodegrade. How long do you think a mask takes?”

Rogan thought for a second before guessing, “A hundred-fifty.”

“Four hundred-fifty,” Dorian countered, prompting Rogan to throw his head back and exclaim, “Oh, my God.”

“It’s messed up to think that,” Dorian said.

Rogan added, “Masks are like the Democrats’ MAGA hat. You wear it to make people feel comfortable. I know it’s illogical, and I’m fine wearing it if it relaxes people, and makes them feel better. But if people want to argue that they do something, it just doesn’t make any sense man. It doesn’t make any sense.”

Rogan also made it clear that he wasn’t certain masks even worked, adding, “I don’t even know if they work. I don’t think they do. I mean maybe they stop spittle from getting into someone. If you can get your finger in the side of it, and air is coming out.”

“I just feel like it’s one of those things where we accepted early on. And now we’re just pretending it’s somehow or another protective,” Rogan continued. “But at the end of the day it’s really just a piece of paper over your mouth and you’re breathing perfectly through it, so like how does that work?”

Rogan has been outspoken on a number of controversial issues relating to the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly the right to try any therapeutic recommended by a doctor and the concept of vaccine passports and mandates.

Rogan ripped into CNN anchor Don Lemon over his support for vaccine passports during an August episode:

They don’t understand history, they don’t understand human beings. They don’t understand human nature. They don’t understand the history of every single country that’s ever existed other than the United States, up until 1776, every f***ing country that has ever existed was run by dictators. All of them.

You’re moving one step closer to a dictatorship. That’s what the f*** is happening. That’s what’s gonna happen with the vaccine passport. That’s what’s going to happen if they close borders. You can’t enter New York City unless you have your papers. You can’t go to here unless you have that. You can’t get on a plane unless you do what I say. And people say, well, it’s all about protecting people from the–, no it’s not.

Rogan also took aim at Lemon’s colleague at CNN, Jim Acosta, who claimed that the podcast host had taken “horse dewormer” when he tested positive for COVID-19. What Rogan had taken was — under the direction of his doctor — the human formulation of the drug ivermectin.

“Do I have to sue CNN? They’re making s*** up. They keep saying I took horse dewormer. I literally got it from a doctor. It’s an American company. They won the Nobel Prize in 2015 for use in human beings, and CNN is saying I’m taking horse dewormer,” Rogan said on his podcast. “They must know that’s a lie.”
