<p>Former Disney star Demi Lovato said she started getting into alcohol and drugs at the age of 13 because she was already being &#8220;bullied&#8221; and was &#8220;looking for an escape.&#8221;</p>
<p>During the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/demi-lovato">30-year-old actress</a>&#8216; appearance on the &#8220;Call Her Daddy&#8221; <a href="https://open.spotify.com/episode/0z8lON88xftN1xP161drGS?si=DG3lm8hbRcSAQwiYC8Lc7Q">podcast</a> Wednesday with host Alex Cooper, Lovato talked about her ongoing battle to stay sober and admitted she started drinking at a very early age.</p>
<p>&#8220;I started experimenting for the first time when I was 12, or 13,&#8221; <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/you-call-me-they-but-im-still-daddys-girl-demi-lovato-confuses-twitter-with-pronouns-again">Lovato</a> explained. &#8220;I got into a car accident and they prescribed me opiates.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;My mom didn&#8217;t think she would have to lock up the opiates from her 13-year-old daughter, but I was already drinking at that point,&#8221; she added. &#8220;I had been bullied and was looking for an escape.&#8221;</p>
<p>Demi said once her mom realized &#8220;how many&#8221; pills her daughter was taking, she &#8220;locked them up.&#8221;</p>
<p>The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/demi-lovato-who-encouraged-followers-to-be-a-slut-aliens-is-a-derogatory-term-for-anything">superstar singer</a> also explained that in her &#8220;teenage years&#8221; she &#8220;drank a lot&#8221; and said she&#8217;s since realized that first time she snuck a beer from her step-dad&#8217;s refrigerator and drank it alone that &#8220;should have been a major red flag.&#8221;</p>

<p>&#8220;At 17, it was the first time I tried coke and, like, loved it too much and then that kinda bled into me going to treatment right after I turned 18,&#8221; the &#8220;Sober&#8221; <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/demi-lovato-plays-pronoun-roulette-heres-why-it-matters">hitmaker</a> shared.</p>
<p>The actress said that when she did &#8220;finally&#8221; decide to get &#8220;help&#8221; her team was &#8220;really supportive&#8221; because it &#8220;had been a long time coming.&#8221;</p>
<p>The &#8220;Camp Rock&#8221; star recently opened up about the &#8220;rough&#8221; time she had last year and her decision to go to rehab to get help following her near-death overdose in July 2018, as <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/survivors-guilt-disney-star-demi-lovato-talks-sobriety-battle-and-rough-time-after-overdose">The Daily Wire</a> previously reported.</p>
<p>During &#8220;<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVzIbpH-fG8">The Zane Lowe Show on Apple Music</a>,&#8221; the pop singer talked about her battle with addiction and her latest rehab stint as she opened up about the inspiration for her new music.</p>
<p>&#8220;Everything that I write about comes from personal experiences, and I had gone through a rough time last year,&#8221; Lovato said. &#8220;And I went back to treatment, and when I came out, I had all of this unresolved trauma that like I hadn&#8217;t dealt with, or that I started to deal with in treatment. And then when I came out, I was like, &#8216;It&#8217;s OK to be angry and feel those things.'&#8221;</p>
