President Joe Biden is continuing to face a growing number of Democrats who are calling on him to quit his re-election campaign following his disastrous debate performance against former President Donald Trump late last month.

Biden froze, forgot words, made awkward sounds, slurred his words, stood with his mouth open, and made numerous false claims all of which caused members of the party to panic. The 81-year-old looked weak, old, and senile, especially in comparison to Trump, as the two were both visible on a split screen for the majority of the event.

Following the debate, polls have shown Trump’s lead over Biden become even more dominant as the president falls behind across the country, especially in swing states. The Wall Street Journal found that 80% of voters now believe that Biden is too old to be president.

The White House confirmed this earlier this month that Biden has been repeatedly evaluated by a leading expert on Parkinson’s disease, Dr. Kevin Cannard.

Dr. Tom Pitts, a Democrat who is a quadruple board-certified neurologist based in New York City, said during an NBC News interview this month that Biden “definitely has” Parkinson’s disease.

In response to Biden falling apart just months before the election, 38 elected Democrats — who are in Congress or who are governors or lieutenant governors — have called on him to drop out of the race, including:

(This list will be updated as more Democrats call on Biden to drop out)

July 19:

  • Rep. Gabe Vasquez (D-NM): “I believe too many of our fundamental freedoms and the wellbeing of our nation are at risk under a Trump presidency and President Biden should step aside to give Democrats the best opportunity to win this November.”
  • Rep. Kathy Castor (D-FL): “I think it’s an exciting time to possibly pass the torch. Kamala Harris is a fighter and I have full confidence in her.”
  • Rep. Morgan McGarvey (D-KY): “There is no joy in the recognition he should not be our nominee in November.”
  • Rep. Betty McCollum (D-MN): “To give Democrats a strong, viable path to winning the White House, I am calling upon President Biden to release his delegates and empower Vice-President Harris to step forward to become the Democratic nominee for President. If she becomes our Democratic nominee, Vice-President Harris will need a strong Midwestern running-mate and I encourage her and the Democratic delegates to consider a successful leader who has been a teacher, soldier, football coach, former-member of Congress, and a proven winner – Minnesota’s Governor Tim Walz.”
  • Rep. Greg Landsman (D-OH): “It is time for President Biden to step aside and allow us to nominate a new leader who can reliably and consistently make the case against Donald Trump and make the case for the future of America.”
  • Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-NM): “While the decision to withdraw from the campaign is President Biden’s alone, I believe it is in the best interests of our country for him to step aside. By passing the torch, he would secure his legacy as one of our nation’s greatest leaders and allow us to unite behind a candidate who can best defeat Donald Trump and safeguard the future of our democracy.”
  • Rep. Jesús “Chuy” Garcia (D-IL): “We must face the reality that widespread public concerns about your age and fitness are jeopardizing what should be a winning campaign,” Garcia said in a join statement with three other Democrats.
  • Rep. Jared Huffman (D-CA): “We must face the reality that widespread public concerns about your age and fitness are jeopardizing what should be a winning campaign,” Huffman said in a joint statement with three other Democrats.
  • Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI): “We must face the reality that widespread public concerns about your age and fitness are jeopardizing what should be a winning campaign,” Pocan said in a joint statement with three other Democrats.
  • Rep. Marc Veasey (D-TX): “We must face the reality that widespread public concerns about your age and fitness are jeopardizing what should be a winning campaign,” Veasey said in a joint statement with three other Democrats.
  • Rep. Sean Casten (D-IL): “It is with a heavy heart and much personal reflection that I am therefore calling on Biden to pass the torch to a new generation. To manage an exit with all the dignity and decency that has guided his half-century of public service.”

July 18:

  • Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA): “Simply put, your candidacy is on a trajectory to lose the White House and potentially impact crucial House and Senate races down ballot. It is for these reasons that I urge you to step aside from our Party’s nomination to allow another Democratic candidate to compete against and beat Donald Trump in the November election.”
  • Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT): “I have worked with President Biden when it has made Montana stronger, and I’ve never been afraid to stand up to him when he is wrong. And while I appreciate his commitment to public service and our country, I believe President Biden should not seek re-election to another term.”
  • Rep. Jim Costa (D-CA): “I am proud of the work we have done to pass monumental legislation that is leading to the first real investments in our communities in decades. But for the good of the country, I think it is time for the President to pass the torch to the next generation to carry on the legacy he started.”

July 17:

  • Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA): “President Biden has been one of the most consequential presidents in our nation’s history, and his lifetime of service as a Senator, a Vice President, and now as President has made our country better. But our nation is at a crossroads. A second Trump presidency will undermine the very foundation of our democracy, and I have serious concerns about whether the President can defeat Donald Trump in November.”

July 12:

  • Rep. Mike Levin (D-CA): “Making this statement is not easy. I have deep respect for President Biden’s five plus decades of public service and incredible appreciation for the work we’ve done together these last three and a half years. But I believe the time has come for President Biden to pass the torch.”
  • Rep. Brittany Pettersen (D-CO): “Joe Biden saved our country once, and I’m joining the growing number of people in my district and across the country to ask him to do it again. Please pass the torch.”

July 11:

  • Rep. Eric Sorensen (D-IL): “Every day, I remain committed to the people of Central & Northwestern Illinois. I believe our best days are still ahead. And today, I am hopeful President Biden will step aside in his campaign for President.”
  • Rep. Scott Peters (D-CA): “Today I ask President Biden to withdraw from the presidential campaign. The stakes are high, and we are on a losing course. My conscience requires me to speak up and put loyalty to the country and to democracy ahead of my great affection for, and loyalty to, the President and those around him.”
  • Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT): “I hope President Biden will step away from the presidential campaign.”
  • Rep. Greg Stanton (D-AZ): “For the sake of American democracy… I believe it is time for the President to step aside as our nominee.”
  • Rep. Ed Case (D-HI): “I do not believe President Biden should continue his candidacy for re-election as President. This has nothing to do with his character and record. If it did, there would be no decision to make. This is solely about the future, about the President’s ability to continue in the most difficult job in the world for another four-year term.”
  • Rep. Brad Schneider (D-IL): “The time has come, however, for President Biden to heroically pass the torch to a new generation of leadership to guide us to the future he has enabled and empowered us to pursue. … I fear if he fails to make the right choice, our democracy will hang in the balance.”
  • Rep. Hillary Scholten (D-MI): “For the good of our democracy, I believe it is time for him to step aside from the presidential race and allow a new leader to step up.”

July 10:

  • Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR): “While this is a decision for the president and the first lady, I hope they will come to the conclusion that I and others have: President Biden should not be the Democratic presidential nominee.”
  • Sen. Peter Welch (D-VT): “We cannot unsee President Biden’s disastrous debate performance. We cannot ignore or dismiss the valid questions raised since that night. … For the good of the country, I’m calling on President Biden to withdraw from the race.”
  • New York Lt. Governor Antonio Delgado (D): “He can add to his legacy, showing his strength and grace, by ending his campaign and making room for a new leader.”

July 9:

  • Rep. Pat Ryan (D-NY): “For the good of our country, for my two young kids, I’m asking Joe Biden to step aside in the upcoming election and deliver on the promise to be a bridge to a new generation of leaders.”

July 8:

  • Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ): “Because I know President Biden cares deeply about the future of our country, I am asking that he declare that he won’t run for reelection and will help lead us through a process toward a new nominee.”

July 7:

  • Rep. Mark Takano (D-CA): Called on Biden to drop out during a phone call over the weekend, according to NBC News.
  • Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY): Called on Biden to drop out during a phone call over the weekend, according to NBC News.
  • Rep. Joseph Morelle (D-NY): Called on Biden to drop out during a phone call over the weekend, according to NBC News.
  • Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA): “I think he should step aside. I think it’s become clear he’s not the best person to carry the Democratic message.”

July 6:

  • Rep. Angie Craig (D-MN): “There is simply too much at stake to risk a second Donald Trump presidency. That’s why I respectfully call on President Biden to step aside as the Democratic nominee.”

July 5:

  • Rep. Mike Quigley (D-IL): “Mr. President, your legacy is set… The only thing that you can do now to cement that for all time and prevent utter catastrophe is to step down and let someone else do this.”

July 4:

  • Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA): “President Biden has done enormous service to our country, but now is the time for him to follow in one of our founding father, George Washington’s footsteps and step aside to let new leaders rise up and run against Donald Trump.”

July 3:

  • Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ): “What he needs to do is shoulder the responsibility for keeping that seat — and part of that responsibility is to get out of this race.”

July 2:

  • Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX): “I am hopeful that he will make the painful and difficult decision to withdraw. I respectfully call on him to do so.”
