Louisiana Republican Sen. John Kennedy shared a comical twist in his defense against plans by Democrats to remove the Senate filibuster in order to help pass a new voting rights law.
Kennedy shared the comments during an interview on Fox News’ “Hannity” program on Monday.
“The Biden administration’s effort to get rid of the 60-vote threshold in the United States Senate is not about a Senate that doesn’t work. It’s about a woke agenda that doesn’t sell,” Kennedy said during the interview.
“Getting rid of the 60-vote threshold in the Senate in my judgment would be like giving whiskey and car keys to a teenage boy,” he added.

Kennedy also addressed the inaccurate approach of President Joe Biden to accuse Americans of being racist if they don’t support his “woke” agenda.
“Pres. Biden is wrong to say that tens of millions of Americans are racist because they don’t support his woke agenda,” Kennedy tweeted.
“The truth is that most Americans think more about character than race—They understand that souls have no color,” he added.

In the interview, the Louisiana senator highlighted many of the Biden administration’s weaknesses as the president reaches the end of his first year in office.
“The Biden administration has mismanaged COVID, it has mismanaged inflation, it has mismanaged the border, and it has mismanaged foreign policy all in one year. If the aliens landed tomorrow and said, ‘Take me to your leader,’ it would be embarrassing,” he told Hannity.
“Now President Biden is trying to change the subject by talking about race, and he is mismanaging that. America is not perfect. Americans know that, but they also know that we are good. Black lives have mattered to most Americans for a long time,” Kennedy said.
During a Senate floor speech last week, Kennedy also defended the need to preserve the filibuster.
“If you’re going to make law that impacts the entirety of this diverse country, then you ought to have 60 votes,” he said.
“Just as Sen. Schumer said so wisely, ‘If you get 51% of the vote, you do not get your way 100% of the time,’” he said.

Kennedy is not alone in his concerns. Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel warned against the Democrat Party’s election reform push last week, referring to the proposed Freedom to Vote Act as “the Freedom to Cheat Act.” The Daily Wire previously reported:
In a Tuesday statement, McDaniel also spoke out against the Biden administration’s plan to remove Senate filibuster rules to pass its own voting reform bill as a “federal takeover” of elections.
“Joe Biden and Democrats’ election takeover attempts are blatant power-grabs designed to rig the game. Democrats want to destroy the integrity of our elections by eliminating photo ID requirements, allowing non-citizens to vote, using taxpayer dollars to fund career politicians, and silencing voters. No number of lies told or fake hysteria pushed today justify Democrats’ agenda to break the Senate and destroy American elections,” she said.
The statement shared that 75% of Americans — including 69% of black voters and 60% of Democrats polled — support voter ID requirements.
