Britney Spears said people need to “lighten up about the knives” after she posted a video of her dancing around while holding two large butcher knives, which sparked concern from some fans about her mental stability.
In a video on Tuesday on Instagram, the 41-year-old pop star wrote that people should “Lighten up about the knives” because she was just “copying Shakira.”
During Shakira’s recent appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards, the singer performed a belly dancing routine while wielding two large knives.

In the original post that made headlines, Spears wrote that she “started playing in the kitchen with knives today !!! Don’t worry they are NOT real knives !!! Halloween is soon !!!”
In a later post, fans noticed she had a bandage on her arm and was no longer dancing with the knives.
Initially, the “Womanizer” hitmaker had allowed comments on the first post, but later turned them off, as previously reported. Some of them included concerns about not only the superstar singer, but about Spears’ pets, who could be seen in the background.
“Those poor dogs just ran scared they need to be rescued and she needs HELP,” one commenter said.
Another added, “I’m now concerned about her having dogs let alone any animals after this video.”

One follower wrote, “Look at this. The debate is over. Britney Spears is insane and can’t take care of herself. At this point we even have to ask if she could be a danger to others. For a year she’s been dancing incessantly in the exact same spot, and now she’s even waving knives around.”
“Britney Spears Pulled out the Knives for this latest video…. She’s Absolutely MENTALLY UNSTABLE,” another added. “I guess all the Free Britney Idiots won’t be satisfied until she Stabs herself or some Unlucky person near by [sic]….”
One user on X wrote that the knives were “100 percent real” because an audible “clang” could be heard, Page Six noted.
However, some fans were quick to defend the “Toxic” hitmaker. “Shakira did this in front of millions yet not one person said s**t,” one person wrote. “This isn’t a big deal, it’s literally fake knives.”
“Look at her form in this video!” another added. “She’s not going to hurt anyone.”
In November 2021, a judge terminated Spears’ nearly 14-year conservatorship, which was controlled by her father Jamie Spears.
