Despite the growing number of states and cities that are rolling back mask mandates, Joy Behar says she won’t be ditching her face coverings any time soon.

Behar said on Thursday’s broadcast of “The View” that she planned to wear a mask in crowded spaces at least for the time being and perhaps “indefinitely,” saying that she didn’t need a cold or the flu any more than she needed to catch COVID-19.

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg, just back this week from a two-week suspension stemming from remarks she made about the Holocaust not being about race, began the segment by noting the growing number of leaders who were rolling back COVID-19 mitigation strategies like vaccine passports and mask mandates.

“Now today the CDC is looking to ease mask mandates by next week if case numbers keep trending in the right direction, which is down, but a lot of Americans are done waiting,” Goldberg said. “Some people are warning Democrats that keeping mandates for too long could be a political liability … What should the – what should we be concerned about really right now?”

“Personally, I listen to the little voice in my head that doesn’t really follow 100% of what they tell me because they keep changing it,” Behar replied, noting a few of the changes in guidance over recent weeks and months.

“A very short time ago, they were saying put the N95 masks on, and now make sure it’s a – and now they’re saying you don’t have to wear them anymore,” she said, adding, “So if I go on the subway, if I go in a bus, into the theater, if I go – where else would I go? A crowded place, I might wear a mask and I might do that indefinitely.”

“Why do I need a flu or a cold even?” she asked, concluding, “I’m listening to myself right now. I don’t think it’s 100% safe yet.”

Co-host Sunny Hostin said her main concern with lifting restrictions was the people who were still at higher risk despite being vaccinated and those who could not be vaccinated either because of their age or other underlying conditions.

“I worry about the kids, right? We know there are kids under 5 that are in preschool that can’t be vaccinated. We know kids from 5 to 12 from the least vaccinated in the country, and I still worry about them,” she said. “My daughter’s freshman year of high school was remote, and that was a terrible thing, and it was difficult for her. I would rather have that, than have her get sick and have these effects later on. I don’t think we’re thinking about the children and the most vulnerable, and the elderly. We’re not thinking about those people.”
