A Los Angeles jail reform organization paid Janaya and Patrisse Consulting, the consulting firm created by Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors and her husband, $20,000 a month while she served as the chairwoman of the jail reform group, the Daily Caller reported.

“According to campaign finance data, Cullors’ consulting firm, Janaya and Patrisse Consulting, received a total of $191,000 over the course of 2019 via payments from Reform LA Jails – also known as Vote Yes on R,” Fox News noted, adding, “Cullors was listed as ‘principal officer’ and ‘business owner’ on the reported payments.”

The consulting group’s most recent filing with California, filed in December 2020, lists Cullors as the sole manager.

Reform LA Jails issued a statement to Fox News asserting that Cullors “earned the market rate compensation.” The statement said that critics were acting in a sexist manner for slamming Cullors:

The Founder and Chair of Reform LA Jails, Patrisse Cullors, through her consulting firm Janaya and Patrisse Consulting, earned the market rate compensation for serving as the chief executive of a historic and successful $5 million dollar campaign in California, and far below when taking into consideration the fact that Ms. Cullors ran the campaign without a salary at all for all of 2018. It is hard to comprehend why Black women get scrutinized for being successful and entrepreneurial despite their enormous personal and financial sacrifice and commitment to justice, while white men and others receive accolades for making their millions. It is sexist and racist to expect an executive level Black woman to not be paid for their work.

Critics have slammed Cullors after it was reported that she allegedly bought four homes for $3.2 million. The New York Post reported:

As protests broke out across the country in the name of Black Lives Matter, the group’s co-founder went on a real estate buying binge, snagging four high-end homes for $3.2 million in the US alone, according to property records. Patrisse Khan-Cullors, 37, also eyed property in the Bahamas at an ultra-exclusive resort where Justin Timberlake and Tiger Woods both have homes …

The Daily Wire reported on Tuesday:

The head of New York City’s Black Lives Matter (BLM) chapter is calling for an investigation into Patrisse Cullors, a co-founder of BLM, following her purchase of four homes worth millions of dollars. Hawk Newsome, who leads Black Lives Matter Greater New York City, called for “an independent investigation” into Cullors’ finances and the operations of the national Black Lives Matter group.

“If you go around calling yourself a socialist, you have to ask how much of her own personal money is going to charitable causes,” Newsome told the New York Post. “It’s really sad because it makes people doubt the validity of the movement and overlook the fact that it’s the people that carry this movement.”
