IRONY ALERT: Connie Britton Wears ‘Poverty Is Sexist’ Shirt — It Wasn’t Cheap

Connie Britton showed up to the 75th Golden Globe Awards wearing black to support the Time’s Up movement and decided to take her “activism” one step further by wearing a shirt that declared “poverty is sexist.”

The way Britton chose to present the feminist message came off as tone-deaf and out-of-touch with reality: the shirt reportedly cost hundreds of dollars.

E! Online reports:

The sweater appears to be specially designed by Lingua Franca; similar pieces typically retail for around $380.

“PovertyIsSexist” comes from Bono’s ONE campaign, which seeks to provide women with the same opportunities as men. The campaign’s website states: “Nowhere on earth do women have as many opportunities as men. Nowhere. But for girls and women in the poorest countries, that inequality is amplified. We won’t end extreme poverty until we break down the barriers holding girls and women back. Sexism is global – the fight against it should be too.”

Britton, who did not win a single award, at least garnered lots of attention on social media for her “poverty is sexist” shirt. A few examples:
