As part of Egypt’s first Olympic volleyball team, Doaa Elghobashy made her debut at the Copacabana venue on Sunday night wearing full body covering spandex and a hijab covering her head. The stark contrast with the Germans in small bikinis has the Left pounding their keyboards with praise.
After her team’s 21-12, 21-15 loss to Germany, she told reporters, “I have worn the hijab for 10 years. It doesn’t keep me away from the things I love to do, and beach volleyball is one of them.”
