A shooting occurred in Los Angeles on Tuesday morning during an attempt by federal agents to arrest an illegal immigrant trying to escape custody for a second time, federal law enforcement sources told The Daily Wire.
The suspect rammed a law enforcement vehicle as he tried to flee from federal agents, Assistant Homeland Security Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told The Daily Wire.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers fired at the illegal immigrant, shooting the individual in the elbow. One law enforcement officer was shot in the hand by a ricochet bullet.
“ICE law enforcement officers, assisted by U.S. Marshals, pulled the illegal alien over in a standard law enforcement procedure. The illegal alien weaponized his vehicle and began ramming the law enforcement vehicle in an attempt to flee,” said McLaughlin.
“Fearing for the safety of the public and law enforcement, our officers followed their training and fired defensive shots. The illegal alien was shot in the elbow and one law enforcement officer was shot in the hand by a ricochet bullet. Both are in the hospital,” she added.
Tuesday’s shooting comes amid a 1,000% uptick in assaults on federal immigration agents.
“These are the consequences of conduct and rhetoric by sanctuary politicians and activists who urge illegal aliens to resist arrest. Resisting arrest puts the safety of illegal aliens, law enforcement, and the public at risk. Our law enforcement officers are facing a more than 1000% increase in assaults against them including vehicle rammings by illegal aliens. We are once again calling on sanctuary politicians, agitators, and the media to turn the temperature down and stop calling for violence and resistance against ICE law enforcement,” said McLaughlin of the growing threats.

Gangs and cartels in Mexico have advertised up to $50,000 in bounties to take out immigration authorities. Additionally, a sniper opened fire on an ICE facility in Dallas last month, killing two detainees despite intending to kill feds.
Violent anti-ICE riots descended on Los Angeles over the summer, prompting President Donald Trump to call in the National Guard and Marines.
The Trump administration also recently hit Antifa with its first terrorism charges over a violent ambush at the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas, on July 4, when a cell of militants lured agents out of the facility with fireworks and began shooting bullets in their direction. A local police officer was shot during the attack.
