A shooter opened fire on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Dallas Wednesday morning, killing two illegal immigrant detainees and injuring another, according to multiple reports.
The shooter, who has yet to be publicly identified, opened fire at a nearby government building before turning the gun on himself, the Dallas Police Department said on X. Joseph Rothrock, the FBI Special Agent in Charge for Dallas, revealed during a press conference Wednesday that agents found “rounds” containing messages “that are ant-ICE in nature” near the shooter.
A photo of the rounds shared by FBI Director Kash Patel on X showed a bullet casing with the phrase “ANTI-ICE” written on it.
“While the investigation is ongoing, an initial review of the evidence shows an idealogical motive behind this attack (see photo below). One of the unspent shell casings recovered was engraved with the phrase ‘ANTI ICE.’ More updates will be forthcoming,” Patel wrote.
“These despicable, politically motivated attacks against law enforcement are not a one-off. We are only miles from Prarieland Texas where just two months ago an individual ambushed a separate ICE facility targeting their officers. It has to end and the FBI and our partners will lead the these investigative efforts to see to it that those who target our law enforcement are pursued and brought to the fullest extent of justice,” he added.
All of the victims were ICE detainees, according to NBC News.
No law enforcement officers were injured, Rothrock said.
“The takeaway from all of this is that the rhetoric has to stop. There are people out there who are seeing what is being placed online and they’re coming and they’re doing acts of violence against ICE employees … it’s just gotta stop, it’s dangerous and people are losing their lives,” Acting Dallas ICE field office director Joshua Johnson said during Wednesday’s press conference.
An ICE facility in Alvarado, Texas, located just outside of Dallas, was targeted by a group of leftist anarchists clad in military-style gear who threw fireworks at the building to lure officers outside before they opened fire on July 4, shooting an Alvarado police officer in the neck.
The group allegedly possessed fliers reading “FIGHT ICE TERROR WITH CLASS WAR!” and “FREE ALL POLITICAL PRISONERS,” and a flag stating, “RESIST FASCISM – FIGHT OLIGARCHY.”
In a separate incident on Aug. 25, Bratton Dean Wilkinson, a 36-year-old American citizen, showed up to the ICE facility in Dallas and claimed that he had a bomb in his backpack, the agency said.
Wilkinson showed a security officer a “detonator” on his wrist, prompting a lockdown at the ICE facility.
