Matt Hutchins, the husband of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who was killed last October when actor Alec Baldwin pointed a gun at her on the set of the film “Rust,” said he was “so angry” after watching Baldwin tell ABC News, “Someone is responsible for what happened, and I can’t say who that is, but it’s not me.”

Baldwin claimed in an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos after Hutchins’ death that he never pulled the trigger of the prop gun. The exchange went like this:

Baldwin: She was someone who was loved by everyone who worked with and liked by everyone who worked with and admired. … And even now, I find it hard to believe that, it just doesn’t seem, it doesn’t seem real to me.

Stephanopoulos: You haven’t said much in public since that tragic accident. Why speak out now? … I think the big question and the one you must have asked yourself 1,000 times, how could this have happened? … You’ve described it as a one in a trillion shot, and the gun was in your hand. How do you come to terms with that? … It wasn’t in the script for the trigger to be pulled.

Baldwin: Well, the trigger wasn’t pull. I didn’t pull the trigger.

Stephanopoulos: So you never pulled the trigger?

Baldwin: No, no, no, no. I would never point a gun at anyone and pull the trigger at them. Never.

Stephanopoulos: What did you think happened? … How did a real bullet get on that scene?

Baldwin: I have no idea. Someone put a live bullet in a gun, a bullet that wasn’t even supposed to be on the property.

Matt Hutchins told Today co-anchor Hoda Kotb, “The idea that the person holding the gun and causing it to discharge is not responsible is absurd to me. … But gun safety was not the only problem on that set. There were a number of industry standards that were not practiced and there’s multiple responsible parties.”

“Watching him I just felt so angry,” he continued. “I was just so angry to see him talk about her death so publicly in such a detailed way and then to not accept any responsibility after having just described killing her.”

Referencing Baldwin’s claim that Halyna Hutchins had asked him to point the gun off camera and toward her arm, Matt Hutchins snapped, “Almost sounds like he was the victim. And hearing him blame Halyna in the interview and shift responsibility to others and seeing him cry about it. I just feel — are we really supposed to feel bad about you, Mr. Baldwin?”

He concluded, “In the end, justice won’t bring Halyna back but maybe the memory of her can help keep people safe and prevent something like this from ever happening again.”
