Former “Saturday Night Live” star Chris Redd opened up about his attack outside the New York City comedy club Comedy Cellar, detailing that he was struck in the face by something like “brass knuckles.”

During an interview with the 37-year-old stand-up comedian, Redd said after he was struck on October 26 he didn’t even realize he had fallen before seeing the actual surveillance footage, the Daily Beast reported in a piece published Thursday.

“This man hit me in the face with something metal,” the comedian shared. “I thought it was brass knuckles because of the way it cut my nose to the bone.”

“A fist don’t normally do all of that at one time,” he added. “So it was safe to assume I was hit with something … But the dude just hit me and ran off. I fell down so fast. I didn’t even know I fell until I looked at the [surveillance] footage.”

“It wasn’t really about the pain at that point, it was just so much blood,” Redd continued.

The comedian said he didn’t think the guy was trying to mug him and initially just wanted to get back inside at the club to do his set and talk about what had just happened to him. However, the blood wouldn’t stop flowing from his face in order to make that possible.

“If we could have stopped the bleeding, I would have went on stage,” Redd explained. “I was like, I can’t wait to talk about this s***. But that was my first thought.”

The comedian was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was treated for fractures in his nose and cheek,” the outlet noted.

He’s since agreed it was a good idea that he waited and is now working on jokes about what happened.

“I got some jokes for sure,” the comedian explained.  “As many jokes as other people have, nobody has as many jokes about this as I do.”

Redd had previously shared that he was going to do three shows at the comedy club on Wednesday before the attack. He was also scheduled to perform on October 30 at City Winery, as The Daily Wire previously reported. No word yet on when those shows will be rescheduled for.
