<p>The number of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/homelessness" target="_blank" rel="noopener">homeless</a> people in the U.S. exploded over the last year by 18%, according to newly released federal data.</p>
<p>More than 770,000 people were homeless in January 2024, according to the data released by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).</p>
<p>“No American should face homelessness, and the Biden-Harris Administration is committed to ensuring every family has access to the affordable, safe, and quality housing they deserve,” HUD Agency Head Adrianne Todman claimed in a statement.</p>
<p>Nine out of the 10 states with the highest rate of homelessness were states run by Democrats.</p>
<p>California and New York have the largest populations of homeless people in the country and their homelessness rate (48 per 10,000 in CA and 81 per 10,000 in NY) is significantly higher than the U.S. national average (23 per 10,000).</p>
<p>The one positive highlight from the report was that the number of homeless veterans dropped the lowest-level on record.</p>
