Palestinians and their Islamic sympathizers in the West love frivolous and self-destructive boycotts. After supporting the Boycott, Divest, and Sanction (BDS) movement against the Jewish State of Israel, Palestinian Authority President President Mahmoud Abbas is now looking to boycott the Middle East Quartet, a diplomatic body incredibly sympathetic to the Palestinian nationalist cause. The quartet includes the United Nations, the European Union, Russia and the United States. Three out of four members despise Israel.
Shunning its own allies, the Palestinian Authority (PA) appears to be shooting himself in the foot for the sake of some symbolic exercise of defiance. Abbas’ boycott proposal came after the Quartet issued a detailed report highlighting recommendations to resume peace talks between the Palestinians and Israelis. The report is littered with anti-Israel talking points and pulls no punches against the Jewish State. “These recommendations, which include an immediate construction freeze across Judea and Samaria, were widely viewed as not in the country’s best interests,” reports Arutz Sheva News.
But that wasn’t enough for the Palestinians. Maintaining the illusion of neutrality, the Quartet gently slapped the Palestinians on the wrist for propagating media images that glorify terrorism. The diplomatic body also highlighted the PA’s unwillingness to denounce acts of barbaric terror. Specifically, the Quartet report detailed a rampant culture of incitement with street names, public squares, and schools all named after so-called martyrs, infamous for slaughtering innocent Israelis.
Although the Quarter acknowledged the role of Palestinians in inciting acts of terror, its ire was primarily directed toward Israel for its “settlement” activities.
And still, Abbas felt as though the diplomatic body was unfair. Slamming the report as “terrible,” the Palestinian Authority is now moving ahead with its boycott against the Quartet.
The PA has refused to assume any sort of responsibility, let alone moral guilt, for the recent spate of unimaginably cruel attacks against Israeli civilians.
The brutal killing of a 13-year-old Israeli girl last week is but one instance of the horror Israelis have been dealing with for the last few months. Fueled by years of cult-like brainwashing sponsored by the Palestinian government, the 17-year-old Palestinian teen who mercilessly stabbed that young Israeli girl was hailed as a hero in his hometown. And that’s where the problem truly lies.
Neither the Quartet nor the PA are willing to admit the obvious: Palestinian terror-promoting culture is the central barrier to peace.
