Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed an executive order on Thursday that allows his administration to conduct rescue operations inside of Israel as 20,000 Americans remain trapped there.
DeSantis tasked the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) with arranging chartered flights home for Floridians still in Israel.
FDEM was also working out logistics for transporting supplies to Israel as it conducts a full-scale war against Palestinian terrorists who murdered more than 1,300 Israelis and at least 27 Americans. Thousands more were injured in the attacks, more than 100 were kidnapped, and many remain missing.
Americans have had a difficult time getting out of Israel because commercial airlines have canceled operations due to deteriorating security conditions in the country.
DeSantis took a shot at President Joe Biden in the executive order, noting that he has failed compared to other world leaders who have already launched rescue efforts inside Israel.
“The Biden administration has failed to launch any form of rescue or evacuation operations for Americans, including Floridians, stranded in the region, and has failed to provide information requested by the State of Florida about any plans for such operations,” DeSantis said in the executive order.
In a tweet, DeSantis added: “Today I signed an executive order authorizing rescue operations in Israel to bring Floridians home and transport supplies to our allies. We will not leave our residents behind. To the many Floridians who are stuck in Israel, trying to get home — help is on the way.”
