Florida Governor Ron DeSantis <a href="https://www.flgov.com/2024/09/17/governor-desantis-issues-executive-order-launching-state-investigation-of-second-assassination-attempt-on-president-trump/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> an executive order on Tuesday authorizing Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody to conduct a criminal investigation into the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump over the weekend.
The investigation comes after a Democrat donor with a lengthy criminal record that barred him from owning firearms was spotted on one of Trump&#8217;s golf courses with <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/would-be-trump-assassin-was-pro-iran-urged-them-to-kill-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a rifle</a> only a few hundred yards away from the former president.
The individual, who also appeared to own a truck that had a Biden-Harris bumpersticker on it, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/would-be-trump-assassin-was-pro-iran-urged-them-to-kill-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a> a book where he urged Iran to assassinate Trump.
&#8220;The State of Florida is conducting its own investigation into the second attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump,&#8221; DeSantis said. &#8220;It is not in the best interests of our state and nation to have the same federal agencies seeking to prosecute Trump leading this investigation.&#8221;
DeSantis said that the state has &#8220;jurisdiction over the most serious, readily provable offense: attempted murder.&#8221;
&#8220;I have directed our state agencies to move expeditiously and to provide full transparency to the public,&#8221; he added. &#8220;There will be accountability in Florida. The people of our state, and the entire country, deserve no less.&#8221;

He said that the most important aspect of the state investigation versus the federal investigation is that the state&#8217;s probe will have much more transparency.
&#8220;What the state does is going to be made public,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I mean, you guys know who are from Florida, you can FOIA a lot of the stuff that&#8217;s done in these investigations under Florida sunshine laws. And then they have a charge to be very frank and exercise candor with the public. I want the information to get out. I do not want any of the information kept under wraps.&#8221;

Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis announced on Sunday evening that the state of Florida would conduct its own investigation into the alleged assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump earlier in the day.
Authorities arrested 58-year-old Ryan Routh — <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/alleged-would-be-assassin-was-democrat-donor-with-criminal-record?topStoryPosition=4">a Democrat donor with a criminal history</a> — after Secret Service noticed his AK-47-style rifle as he hid in shrubbery only a few hundred yards away from Trump at Trump International Golf Course West Palm Beach. When he was engaged by federal law enforcement officials, he ran and got into a car and drove off. Police were able to locate him and take him into custody because a witness got a photo of his car and the license plate.

Routh reportedly had numerous run-ins with the law while living in North Carolina.
FOX8 WGHP <a href="https://myfox8.com/news/north-carolina/greensboro/trump-shooting-attempt-suspect-had-lengthy-criminal-history-in-north-carolina-records-show/">reported</a> that Routh&#8217;s criminal record dates back to 2002, when &#8220;he barricaded himself inside a business with a gun in Greensboro.&#8221;
NBC News <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/ryan-routh-custody-trump-golf-club-incident-rcna171225">reported</a> that he was convicted of possessing a weapon of mass destruction — in this case, a fully automatic machine gun — in 2002. He likely would have been barred from owning a firearm after the conviction.
&#8220;Records also show convictions for carrying a concealed weapon, possession of stolen property and hit-and-run,&#8221; the report said. &#8220;In those cases, which included misdemeanor convictions for violations such as resisting an officer and driving on a suspended license, the defendant received a suspended sentence and parole or probation.&#8221;

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis discussed his efforts over the weekend to make sure that his state has the most secure elections in the country this fall.
DeSantis told &#8220;Sunday Morning Futures&#8221; host Maria Bartiromo on Fox News that the state has banned ballot harvesting and imposed serious penalties for offenders.
&#8220;We require photo ID in order to vote,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We&#8217;ve banned the use of Zuckerbucks, and we&#8217;ve been aggressive at policing the voter rolls so that we have accurate voter rolls, and when people have run afoul of our election laws, this election crimes unit we&#8217;ve created has been able to investigate, refer these people to prosecution, and you&#8217;ve had over 50 people just in the last couple years that have been convicted of various types of voter fraud.&#8221;
&#8220;In the state of Florida, we require voter ID,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;We also prohibit issuing any type of photo ID to illegal aliens, no driver&#8217;s license, no local government IDs, no private organizations are allowed to issue illegals photo ID, and we don&#8217;t recognize out of state licenses or any type of ID for illegals. What that means is it&#8217;s almost impossible for an illegal to register to vote. In some of these states where they do issue those ID cards, they can go in, and there&#8217;s really no check of the citizenship that has been done. So we&#8217;ve been very aggressive in ensuring that only US citizens are on the voter rolls. When we&#8217;ve identified people that have voted illegally who are not US citizens, we have brought prosecutions against them.&#8221;
He said that Democrats &#8220;oppose voter ID because they want there to be illegal votes. There&#8217;s no other reason.&#8221;

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis addressed a brewing scandal in the sunshine state as law enforcement officials are going to thousands of people&#8217;s homes to see if they signed petitions to support putting a radical abortion amendment on the ballot.
Amendment 4 is so extreme and dangerous that the state of Florida has <a href="https://floridahealthfinder.com/FloridaCares">deployed resources to warn voters</a> how the amendment actually puts women&#8217;s health and safety at risk.
DeSantis said at a press conference on Monday that law enforcement has launched an investigation after receiving a wide range of complaints about the group that submitted the petition for the amendment to appear on the ballot.
&#8220;And turns out they looked, this group submitted, dozens of petitions on behalf of dead people,&#8221; DeSantis said. &#8220;They saw those petitions being submitted. There are other, petitions that have actually been validated where the signatures do not match the voter file. So they were getting all of those complaints, and they&#8217;re doing what they&#8217;re supposed to do. They&#8217;re following the law, and they&#8217;re ensuring that anyone that broke the law is gonna be held accountable.&#8221;
&#8220;Our tolerance in the state of Florida for any type of election-related fraud is zero. We are not going to put up with it,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;And so if they have identified examples that are gonna be referred to Florida Department of Law Enforcement those are gonna be pursued. If someone&#8217;s committing fraud that undermines your rights. As, law-abiding citizens, we don&#8217;t want to go down that road.&#8221;
Critics who do not want law enforcement to verify that the signatures are all legitimate claim that police asking people if they signed a petition is a form of &#8220;intimidation.&#8221;
DeSantis said that anyone who is trying to commit fraud will absolutely be held accountable for their crimes and that having that accountability deters a lot of criminal activity from ever happening in the first place.

DeSantis: Fraudulent Petitions Used To Put Abortion Amendment On Ballot

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/stephen-king" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Stephen King</a> was dragged on social media after he made an overly-broad claim about how more than two dozen of his books were supposedly banned throughout the state of Florida.
In a post on Sunday on <a href="https://x.com/StephenKing/status/1829984944321360242?t=lXtwH0OPAbDSXXP6n3-pmg&amp;s=19">X</a>, the 76-year-old horror author claimed that “Florida has banned 23 [of] my books. What the f***?” It later went viral, with more than 14 million views at the time of this publication.
However, as many pointed out in the responses, none of King’s books have been completely banned in the state. Rather, Florida passed legislation in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/desantis-signs-bill-requiring-transparency-from-schools-on-reading-materials">2022</a> that prevents “sexually explicit material” from being in school libraries and seeks to ensure there are only age-appropriate books.
&#8220;Babe, elementary school kids don&#8217;t need to be reading ‘The Shining.’ It&#8217;s not personal. It&#8217;s parenting,” one person <a href="https://x.com/JennMGreenberg/status/1830039496307486985">wrote</a>, referring to one of King&#8217;s works.
Another <a href="https://x.com/Artist_Angie/status/1830068424787312718">added</a>, “Removing books from a SCHOOL library [because] they may not be appropriate for the age group is NOT a ban Mr. King. The parents can go to a public library in town or any bookstore in FL and purchase or check out any book they would like including yours. You have a robust vocabulary and know the definition of the word ban. You should use it, sir.”

“You’re lying. Some of your books that contain explicit sexual material were removed from elementary schools,” a third person <a href="https://x.com/Liz_Wheeler/status/1830601259373470051" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a>. “But let’s talk about why you’re mad about this… Do you think it’s appropriate for children to read about orgies?”
Florida Department of Education spokesperson Sydney Booker also disputed the book banning claim, stating, “There are no books banned in Florida. Sexually explicit material and instruction are not suitable for schools,” <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/stephen-king-florida-book-ban-viral-post-1947396">Newsweek</a> noted.
The horror author <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/stephen-king-trashed-for-making-comments-about-banned-books-does-this-include-pornography" target="_blank" rel="noopener">previously was trashed</a> by online users when he encouraged kids to find and read books that had been removed from school libraries.
“I’m not sure Stephen understands how creepy this is, considering the materials that are being restricted are openly pornographic,” Nick Frietas, a Republican member of the Virginia House of Delegates, <a href="https://twitter.com/NickForVA/status/1615792600027652099">agreed</a>. 
“Does this include pornography? Because I’m pretty sure parents don’t want you telling their children to access pornographic material.” Stephen Miller, former senior adviser to President Trump <a href="https://twitter.com/StephenM/status/1615834670108934144">said</a>.

Multiple people, including a teenage boy, are dead after Hurricane Debby made landfall in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/florida" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Florida</a> Monday, bringing torrential rain, flooding, and devastating winds. 
The small town of Steinhatchee <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2024/08/05/hurricane-debby-live-updates/74666168007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was hit</a> around 7:00 a.m. local time with 80-mile-per-hour winds. The storm then moved from the Big Bend coast of Florida through northern parts of the state before it was downgraded from a Category 1 hurricane to a tropical storm. 
This is the second time in less than a year that Steinhatchee has been hit by a hurricane, as Hurricane Idalia first made landfall about 20 miles away on August 26, 2023.
“Two in less than a year is pretty bad,” local resident Chris Williams <a href="https://apnews.com/article/hurricane-debby-flooding-storm-surge-high-winds-eb9fc50d578826784824f35ba943a6da" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> the Associated Press. “You do everything you can possibly do to prepare. And when you’ve done that, clean up and put it back together and move forward.”
Hundreds of thousands throughout Florida and Georgia are without power, and there is widespread flooding and other risks. Four people have already been reported dead due to storm conditions. 
Law enforcement in Levy County <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/live-updates/hurricane-debby-path-tracker/?id=112553231" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> that a tree fell on a mobile home there, killing a 13-year-old boy. 
&#8220;Our thoughts and prayers are with this family as they deal with this tragedy,&#8221; said the Levy County sheriff’s office. &#8220;We encourage everyone to use extreme caution as they begin to assess and clean up the damage. Downed powerlines and falling trees are among the many hazards.&#8221;
A truck driver was also killed after the vehicle ended up in a bypass canal off of Interstate 75 in Hillsborough County.

Two other people <a href="https://www.firstcoastnews.com/article/weather/fhp-florida-12-year-old-boy-among-2-dead-after-driver-loses-control-during-hurricane-debby-in-dixie-county/77-bfb7b071-9e1a-4493-9c0f-4475cda2bc9c" target="_blank" rel="noopener">were killed</a> Sunday night after a 38-year-old woman in Dixie County lost control of her vehicle “due to the inclement weather and wet roadway,” leading to her death and also killing a 12-year-old boy. A 14-year-old boy was also in the vehicle and hospitalized after the accident. 
Portions of Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas are expected to be inundated with rain.
Florida officials are warning that floods could be a danger for days after the storm passes. Florida Division of Emergency Management executive director Kevin Guthrie said Monday that the chance of flooding &#8220;is probably going to be here for the next five to seven days, maybe as long as 10 days depending on how much rainfall we get.”
Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis told people not to drive through flooded areas.
“When the water rises, when you have streets that can be flooded, that’s hazardous,” he said. “Don’t try to drive through this. We don’t want to see traffic fatalities adding up.”
About 272,000 customers are <a href="https://poweroutage.us/">without power</a> in Florida, and 24,000 have lost power in Georgia.

Florida Governor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ron-desantis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ron DeSantis</a> warned during an interview this week that if the U.S. elects a &#8220;San Francisco Democrat&#8221; like Vice President Kamala Harris to be the next president, she will destroy the U.S. the same way other San Francisco Democrats have destroyed the city of San Francisco and the state of California.
DeSantis made the remarks during a Monday night interview on Newsmax when asked about how much longer he thinks Harris&#8217; honeymoon period with the media is going to last where they keep promoting her and ignoring her disastrous governing record.
&#8220;This is all the way until the election, assuming she gets the nomination at the convention, which it looks more and more likely that she will,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I’ve said that they were going to remove Biden. They did. And I also said if Kamala face-planted, that they would try to do plan B. I think that she’s been able to coalesce a lot of support. She’s raising a lot of money. And so, I think the media has come to the conclusion she’s going to be the candidate.&#8221;
&#8220;And so, they are going to do whatever they can to drag her across the finish line. I mean, they’re taking a San Francisco Democrat who has no accomplishments — she’s as vapid a politician [as] you’re going to find — and they’re trying to turn her into a cultural phenomenon. They’re trying to make fetch happen,&#8221; he continued.&#8221;
DeSantis said he believes that most Americans are &#8220;too smart&#8221; to fall for the media&#8217;s attempts to rebrand Harris.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis slammed Vice President Kamala Harris during a press conference this week after she launched her presidential campaign and effectively locked up the Democratic presidential nomination in just 24 hours following President Joe Biden&#8217;s announcement that he was ending his campaign.
DeSantis <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/webpage-rated-kamala-harris-most-liberal-senator-2019-suddenly-disappears">correctly noted</a> that Harris was rated as the most far-left member of the U.S. Senate, a fact that the media has attempted to bury this week in addition to the media <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/media-denies-that-kamala-harris-was-bidens-border-czar-amid-unprecedented-illegal-immigration">rewriting history</a> surrounding Biden putting Harris in charge of the border.
&#8220;I think that &#8230; her tenure as VP has been disastrous,&#8221; DeSantis said during the press conference. &#8220;She was put in charge of the border. The media was running with that in 2021. Now they&#8217;re saying, &#8216;Well, no, she wasn&#8217;t overseeing the border&#8217;.&#8221;
He said that all the same reporters who correctly reported in 2021 that she was placed in charge of the border are now &#8220;writing the opposite.&#8221;
&#8220;They&#8217;re running interference for her because, of all the failures, that border ranks near the top of the failures of the Biden-Harris administration,&#8221; he said. &#8220;If you go back and watch her statements for when she was running for president in the 2020 cycle, I mean, she basically said, have an open border, she wants taxpayer-funded health care and benefits for illegal aliens. She doesn&#8217;t think you should deport somebody. So she is, as bad as Biden has been on that, she&#8217;s even more liberal on that.&#8221;
He also highlighted her record of wanting to force all Americans onto a government health care program, supporting confiscatory tax increases, being weak on crime, and supporting rioters who were arrested during the violent Black Lives Matter riots in 2020.
DeSantis posted the clip on X and added that she also wanted to destroy the oil and gas industry and confiscate the guns of law-abiding citizens.
&#8220;The Democrats are only excited about Kamala Harris at the moment because they no longer have a candidate who&#8217;s catatonic. But she may fall flat on her face before the convention,&#8221; he added.
He noted that she was forced to drop out of the Democratic primary in 2020 before any of the voting started because she failed to gain any traction with Democratic primary voters.
&#8220;She&#8217;s a lousy candidate and would be an even worse president,&#8221; he added.

The 81-year-old president, who has not been seen in days, announced on Sunday that he was ending his failing campaign because it was in the best interest of his party for him to do so.

The second day of the Republican National Convention (RNC) kicked off under the theme “Make America Safe Once Again,” but the more poignant message appeared to be Republican unity amid Democratic disarray.
Tuesday featured speeches from a number of former President Donald Trump’s vanquished GOP competitors, such as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. Sens. Marco Rubio of Florida and Ted Cruz of Texas – both of whom Trump beat for the nomination in 2016 – also addressed the convention.
Haley, who was Trump’s last biggest competitor in the 2024 primary, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nikki-haley-gives-trump-strong-endorsement-in-call-for-unity-at-rnc?topStoryPosition=3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">delivered</a> her “strong endorsement” of Trump during her RNC address. Her message was directed toward voters who don’t “agree with Trump 100% of the time,” encouraging them to unify around the GOP candidate to remove President Joe Biden from office.
“We agree on keeping America strong. We agree on keeping America safe. And we agree that Democrats have moved so far to the Left that they’re putting our freedoms in danger,” Haley said. “We have a country to save, and a unified Republican Party is essential for saving her.”

DeSantis delivered one of the more memorable lines of the night when he compared Biden’s presidency to “Weekend At Bernie’s,” a 1989 comedy in which two insurance employees prop up their dead boss. The reference earned a wide smile from Trump.

From roughly 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. during the evening, the RNC featured GOP Senate candidates attempting to wrestle seats away from the Democratic Party in competitive states. The convention featured speeches from GOP Senate hopefuls Sam Brown of Nevada, Hung Cao of Virginia, Eric Hovde of Wisconsin, Governor Jim Justice of West Virginia, Kari Lake of Arizona, Dave McCormick of Pennsylvania, Bernie Moreno of Ohio, Mike Rogers of Michigan, and Tim Sheehy of Montana.
Attendees at day two of the convention were treated to a minute-long mashup of Trump dancing on the campaign trail right before the former president walked onto the convention floor.

Under the theme of making America safe again, the lineup included personal stories from Americans impacted directly by violent crime and drug addiction. Madeline Brame, a New York resident, lost her son when he was fatally stabbed in Harlem in 2018. Brame blasted soft-on-crime policies by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who opted to use resources to prosecute Trump.
“My son – Sgt. Hason Correa, an Afghanistan War retired veteran – he received enemy fire from the Taliban only to be murdered with a knife on the streets of New York City,” Brame said. “The four assailants responsible for his death initially were facing justice, but that changed when District Attorney Alvin Bragg was elected.”

Anne Fundner took the stage and spoke of her first-born son who died from fentanyl-laced pills. Fundner placed the blame for her son’s death on Biden’s border policies and the drug trade that has crossed over the United States’ southern border. Her son, Weston, died in a moment of “peer pressure,” Fundner said.
“On February 27, 2022, our lives were shattered and our baby was gone. This was not an overdose, it was a poisoning. His whole future, everything we ever wanted for him was ripped away in an instant. And Joe Biden does nothing. I hold Joe Biden, Kamala Harris – the ‘border czar,’ what a joke – and Gavin Newsom, and every Democrat who supports open borders for the death of my son,” Fundner said.
