   DailyWire.com

The Greek ambassador to Brazil was murdered by a Rio de Janeiro police officer who was having an affair with the diplomat’s wife.

Reuters reported that Ambassador Kyriakos Amiridis, 59, was last seen Monday night, but a burned body found in his car is believed to be his. His wife Francoise, the mother of their 10-year-old daughter, reported him missing on Wednesday.

But Globo TV reports that officer Sergio Gomes Moreira Filho, 29, confessed to the murder, and that investigators said they believed Françoise and Moreira had arranged the murder. Francoise Amiridis and Moreira are in custody.

AP reported that according to Rio de Janeiro police investigator Giniton Lages, blood spots thought to be the ambassador’s were found on a sofa inside the home of the wife. Another investigator said the couple had fought three days before Christmas.

Adilson Palacio, a spokesman for the Rio homicide division, stated, “They admitted it.” According to The Mirror, Filho “reportedly confessed to killing Kyriakos Amiridis in the apartment where the couple were spending Christmas, after he had reportedly caught him in bed with wife Francois Amiridis.”

Amiridis became Greece’s top diplomat in Brazil in 2016, having previously served as Greece’s ambassador to Libya and as consul in Rio from 2001 and 2004.
