Former CNN Bureau Chief Rips Media For Bias, False Reporting, Low Standards

By  Ryan Saavedra

The former Washington, D.C. bureau chief for CNN ripped the media for its extreme bias, misreporting, and low standards as they joined the Democratic party in launching an all-out assault to stop Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh from being confirmed to the nation’s highest court.

Frank Sesno, who is now the current director of the School of Media and Public Affairs at George Washington University, said on CNN’s “Reliable Sources” with Brian Stelter that the public’s trust in the media is “somewhere down below the basement.”

“Do you think the press is coming out of this looking weaker because many people feel that the press chose a side through this?” CNN’s Stelter asked.

“Yes. Certainly, that’s the way it’s going to look to Trump supporters and to people who have been questioning media’s bias and their ability to report straight for a long time,” Sesno responded. “Look, the fact of the matter is that by any reasonable measure, this has been an extraordinary week for this president. Forget the Russia investigation. Forget the tax story. Forget all of the rest. Trade deal with Mexico and Canada, unemployment numbers that haven’t been this low since 1969, and following through on what he said, which was to remake the Supreme Court and a triumph with Kavanaugh himself.”

Sesno pointed out that even MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough has recently said that the media has been unfair toward President Donald Trump.

Sesno noted that many of the allegations against Kavanaugh would not have been reported in “the old days” due to reporting standards being higher, adding that reporting standards have “completely been overtaken by events now with social media.”
