CASH BACK? Facebook And Its Top Officials Have Given Millions To Democrats

Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg may have spent the last two days patiently explaining Facebook’s complicated advertising and data management operations to out-of-touch, Luddite legislators, but the tech mogul has spent plenty of time before this week speaking Congress’ language.

The social media company isn’t relying on a series of successful committee meetings to make sure it has a future free from regulation, however. It’s relying on years of political donations from both its corporate coffers and its top officials to help it skate through a Congressional investigation.

According to The Washington Free Beacon, Facebook’s COO Sheryl Sandberg has been donating the maximum possible amounts to local Democrats, padding the pockets of Reps. Nancy Pelosi (CA), Steny Hoyer (MD), and Zoe Lofgren (CA), as well as Senators Claire McCaskill (MO), Dianne Feinstein (CA), and Kirsten Gillibrand (NY). She’s also given generously to progressive groups, particularly those run by (and for) women.

WFB points out that Sandberg also appeared in the notorious DNC email hack, apparently as part of an effort on behalf of Clinton’s team to create a “working relationship” between the Clinton campaign and Facebook.

As a corporate entity, Facebook is generous to both parties — useful, considering that both parties have members sitting on the committees Zuckerberg needs to impress.

According to Fast Company, members on the Senate Judiciary and Commerce Committees received around $600,000 in contributions since 2007. That’s pretty evenly divided between the two committees. The House Energy and Commerce Committee, where Zuckerberg testified on Wednesday, received around $380,000.
