Not long after embarking on its reunion tour, Jane’s Addiction has canceled the remainder of its scheduled shows following a physical altercation between two band members during a recent live performance.

Footage of singer Perry Ferrell punching guitarist Dave Navarro after the two got into a heated argument onstage started circulating online following their concert in Boston on Friday night. The show ended early, and the band initially only called off Sunday’s concert, but they have since canceled the rest of the tour.

“To all the fans, the band have made the difficult decision to take some time away as a group,” a statement posted on X Monday morning said. “As such, they will be cancelling [sic] the remainder of the tour.” The announcement says refunds for the canceled dates will be issued to all ticket purchasers.

While the statement didn’t mention Ferrell by name, Navarro provided more details via a post on his personal Instagram page.

“Due to a continuing pattern of behavior and the mental health difficulties of our singer Perry Farrell, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to discontinue the current US tour. Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative. We hope that he will find the help he needs,” he wrote.

Navarro’s post continued, “We deeply regret that we are not able to come through for all our fans who have already bought tickets. We can see no solution that would either ensure a safe environment on stage or reliably allow us to deliver a great performance on a nightly basis. Our hearts are broken.”

The statement is signed by “Dave, Eric and Stephen (Perkins).”

While the reasoning for the outburst isn’t clear, Farrell’s wife did post on her social media that the singer was unhappy that his vocals couldn’t be heard over the instruments.

“Perry’s frustration had been mounting, night after night, he felt that the stage volume had been extremely loud and his voice was being drowned out by the band,” Farrell’s wife, Etty Lau Farrell, wrote in an Instagram post shared on Saturday morning.

She added that when “the audience in the first row” had complained that they couldn’t hear Perry sing, “Perry lost it.”

She went on to say Farrell had been suffering from tinnitus and a sore throat. “By the end of the song, he wasn’t singing, he was screaming just to be heard,” Etty Lau added, saying after being escorted off stage, her husband had a “breakdown” where he “cried and cried.”

A total of 15 remaining dates are being canceled, per Variety, less than a month after Live Nation announced that seven dates were being added to the end of the tour.

Jane’s Addiction is known for songs like “Jane Says,” “Been Caught Stealing,” and “Just Because.” They rose to fame in the late 1980s and early 1990s as alternative rock and grunge music genres were exploding in popularity. This was the band’s first tour in 15 years.
