The FBI has issued a summons to actress Selma Blair, accusing her of assault after an incident aboard a flight in which she reportedly injured two flight attendants, biting at least one of them.
The violation notice lists “assaults within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States,” according to The Associated Press. No date has been set for the actress’s first appearance in federal court in Brooklyn.
Blair was taken into custody Sunday after the Delta Air Lines plane arrived at JFK Airport following the alleged midair skirmish. Her representative said she experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct.
It wasn’t the first time the “Cruel Intentions” star’s behavior aboard a flight had made headlines.
In 2016, the “Legally Blonde” actress was removed on a stretcher after an outburst aboard another Delta flight from Cancun, Mexico, to Los Angeles.
Entertainment site TMZ reported at the time that other passengers had witnessed her suddenly burst into tears, after which she began shouting strange things in the plane’s first-class section.
“He burns my private parts. He won’t let me eat or drink,” she said. “He beats me. He’s going to kill me.”
Witnesses told TMZ that Blair had been drinking wine and appeared to have combined it with medication. Two nurses reportedly checked her bag for pills, and the pilot reportedly radioed ahead about a passenger who had apparently mixed medication with alcohol.
When the plane landed at LAX, medical personnel came aboard and Blair was taken out on a stretcher.
Blair’s public apology came a day later — via a statement given to Vanity Fair — in which she confirmed that Blair had mixed alcohol and medication with blacked out.
“I made a big mistake yesterday. After a lovely trip with my son and his Dad, I mixed alcohol with medication, and that caused me to black out and led me to say and do things that I deeply regret,” she began.
“My son was with his Dad asleep with his headphones on, so there is that saving grace. I take this very seriously, and I apologize to all of the passengers and crew that I disturbed and am thankful to all of the people who helped me in the aftermath,” she added. “I am a flawed human being who makes mistakes and am filled with shame over this incident. I am truly very sorry.”
Blair was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in 2018 and has since advocated for disability rights.
