Rep. Eric Swalwell’s (D-CA) most recent ad targets Republicans nationwide, suggesting that they would would like to see women arrested for having abortions.
The ad premiered Monday evening on MSNBC’s “The Reidout” with host Joy Reid, and it showed a family sitting down to dinner — a mom, a dad, and two kids — when a sudden visit from law enforcement interrupted the meal.

The young daughter was just complaining about how “gross” it was that her parents would kiss each other at the dinner table when a loud knock at the door and flashing lights alerted them to the police presence.
The officer at the door informed the woman that he had a warrant for her arrest, citing a statute he described as “unlawful termination of a pregnancy.”
“That’s my personal business,” she objected, but the officer replied, “That’s for the courts to decide, Ma’am.”
The officer then took her into custody, while her children screamed and cried, explaining that her doctor had also been arrested and that she would be forced to undergo a physical examination.
The ad wrapped up with a series of statements, screaming in bold capital letters, designed to make viewers believe that a total ban on all abortions — and the criminalization of any woman who dared to have one — was imminent.

“Please, don’t do this. Please,” the woman pleaded from the back seat of the police car.
But as a number of conservatives pointed out, what Swalwell depicted in his ad — the dystopian future without abortion access — was actually happening at the direction of President Joe Biden’s administration, but to pro-life activists.

“The FBI has arrested 22 pro-life Americans for peacefully protesting abortion, but still hasn’t arrested a single person for firebombing pregnancy centers and burning down churches,” @LifeNewsHQ said.
“I don’t think there is a single Republican candidate running for national office that has suggested arresting women for having abortions. Oh well. Never let the truth get in the way of a good story!” Ben Kew added.
RedState’s @SisterToldjah pointed out that in addition to promoting a false narrative, the ad made police officers look bad. “Not only is this total BS, but it also paints cops in a bad light. Not your finest hour, Swalwell,” she said.
