Donald Trump Jr. offered a strong defense of Chelsea Clinton on Saturday after the former first daughter was harassed at a vigil for the 49 Muslim worshipers murdered at two New Zealand mosques on Friday.
A New York University student at the vigil Clinton was attending was seen on video accusing Clinton, who is pregnant, of triggering the terrorist attack with her “rhetoric.”
Trump Jr. tagged Clinton in a tweet on Saturday condemning the harassment and praising the former first daughter for “condemning anti-Semitism & all forms of hate.”
“It’s sickening to see people blame [Chelsea Clinton] for the [New Zealand] attacks because she spoke out against anti-Semitism,” he wrote.
“We should all be condemning anti-Semitism & all forms of hate. Chelsea should be praised for speaking up. Anyone who doesn’t understand this is part of the problem,” the president’s eldest son added.
The woman who harassed Clinton at the vigil has been identified as New York University student Leen Dweik. The senior accused Clinton of causing the tragedy while Clinton calmly tried to explain herself and apologized to the student. The Daily Wire’s Ashe Schow reported on the confrontation, writing that the student “began pointing her finger in Clinton’s face and angrily accusing her rhetoric of inspiring the mass shooter.”
“This right here is the result of a massacre stoked by people like you and the words that you put out into the world,” Dweik said.
“And I want you to know that and I want you to feel that deeply – 49 people died because of the rhetoric you put out there,” Dweik added, as her fellow students snapped their fingers in approval.
Clinton did not respond to the student angrily, instead apologizing.
“I’m so sorry you feel that way,” Clinton said.
A male student in the crowd yelled, “What does ‘I’m sorry you feel that way’ mean? What does that mean?” Other students erupted in anger as well.
The attack on Clinton seemingly stems from her condemnation of anti-Semitism following comments by representatives within the Democrat Party, namely Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN). Omar has recently suggested American Jews have “dual loyalty” and criticized pro-Israel lobby AIPAC as being “All about the Benjamins.” Moreover, in 2012, Omar tweeted, “Israel has hypnotized the world.”
Responding to a tweet last month condemning anti-Semitic language from Omar, Clinton wrote: “Co-signed as an American. We should expect all elected officials, regardless of party, and all public figures to not traffic in anti-Semitism.”
As noted by Schow, Dweik doubled-down on her Clinton-bashing via Twitter. She also called out “non-Muslims” for attending the vigil.
“[I] was on the verge of tears all day today and actually cried on my into and during prayer but the charade of a vigil where more non-[M]uslims than [M]uslims spoke and [C]helsea [C]linton was invited made me so viscerally angry and [I] will not apologize for that,” she said.
Others were quick to offer Clinton support and mock the Left’s “Woke” Olympics, too.
“Chelsea Clinton was trying to speak out against bigotry and her words were used to claim she was a bigot,” said journalist Tim Pool. “There are no rules, everything is offensive.”
“This is disgusting,” Piers Morgan tweeted. “I’ve never seen [Chelsea Clinton] be anything but a consistently strident voice for religious & racial tolerance & fairness. Her calmness here is extraordinary & very laudable.”
Journalist Michael Weiss sarcastically offered: “Seem to have missed the Chelsea Clinton connection to the New Zealand attack. Fortunately we have millennials to suss it out for us.”
Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld quipped, “when the left has led the right to staunchly defend Chelsea Clinton, then the left must be irretrievably lost.”
