The Democratic National Committee will be voting on a resolution to condemn Designated Survivor, a political-themed television series from ABC, taking aim at FBI Director James Comey for his public statements during the 2016 presidential election season regarding Hillary Clinton’s email scandal.
Reid Epstein of The Wall Street Journal shared the proposed resolution on Twitter:
The resolution notes that Designated Survivor depicts a “fictional FBI Director as being blackmailed into confessing a crime he did not commit.” It adds, “Comey demonstrated in the recent 2016 election that he does not need to be blackmailed to engage in illegal partisan actions…. Comey’s infamous, partisan, and illegal letters resulted in the election of the man some refer to as ‘not my president.’”
Hillary Clinton and some of her top presidential campaign officials essentially blamed Comey for President Donald Trump’s electoral win.
The Hill speculates that the resolution aims to mock Comey.
The New York Times reported that Comey claims to have been asked by Trump to stay on as FBI Director.
