The San Francisco Police Department arrested 38-year-old tech entrepreneur Nima Momeni late this week on murder charges stemming from the fatal stabbing of Cash App founder Bob Lee earlier this month.

Officers found Lee — the founder of payments platform Cash App — “suffering from apparent stab wounds” on a sidewalk, the department said in a release last week. “Officers rendered aid and summoned medics to the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite efforts by first responders and medical personnel, the victim succumbed to his injuries.”

The San Francisco District Attorney’s Office said that Lee had been drinking with Momeni’s sister and that Momeni asked Lee “whether his sister was doing drugs or anything inappropriate,” according to court documents.

Lee reportedly responded, “nothing inappropriate had happened.”

The Washington Post reported that Momeni’s sister was married, but the relationship “had possibly been in jeopardy,” according to a witness who was interviewed by law enforcement.

The exact nature of the relationship between Lee and Momeni’s sister was not known, the report said, although they appear to have known each other for a few years.

The Post reported that Momeni’s sister had text Lee: “Just wanted to make sure your doing ok Cause know nima came wayyyyyy down hard on you And thank you for being such a classy man handling it with class Love you Selfish pricks.”

Momeni says on LinkedIn that he has owned Expand IT, Inc. for more than 13 years in San Francisco and that he is a “dedicated technology partner” who focuses on “supporting a variety of client vertical markets in Healthcare, Finance, High Tech/Startup, Technology, Manufacturing and Service sectors.”

Mission Local, which first reported on the arrest, said that the two men knew each other and were “were purportedly driving together through downtown San Francisco in a car registered to the suspect” on the day that Lee was murdered.

The report said that a confrontation broke out when the men were in the vehicle and potentially continued outside the car, and that at some point, Lee was stabbed multiple times with a knife that was recovered close to where he died.

CCTV footage later showed Lee staggering after being stabbed and trying to flag down cars for help, but being ignored by drivers.

“Our dear friend and colleague, Bob Lee passed away yesterday at the age of 43, survived by a loving family and collection of close friends and collaborators,” said Joshua Goldbard, CEO of MobileCoin.

“Bob was a dynamo, a force of nature. Bob was the genuine article,” Goldbard added. “He was made for the world that is being born right now, he was a child of dreams, and whatever he imagined, no matter how crazy, he made real.”
