Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) may have ended the political aspirations of San Francisco&#8217;s favorite gay liberal when she weighed in Monday on the race to fill her soon-to-be-vacated seat in Congress.
Pelosi chose to back City Supervisor Connie Chan over state Senator Scott Wiener and tech entrepreneur Saikat Chakrabarti ahead of the June 2 primary, the latter of whom previously worked for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez but failed to snag her endorsement in the race.

Pelosi followed that with an additional statement, adding, &#8220;Connie understands San Francisco — our values, our diversity, our communities, and our responsibility to lead with both compassion and strength. She’s a mom who knows her power and knows her why. I am confident Connie is ready to bring clarity and purpose to the work ahead — For The Children.&#8221;
But Pelosi&#8217;s choice appears to have left some scratching their heads.
Wiener, who has consistently <a href="https://x.com/IAPolls2022/status/2038981239407854060">polled</a> as the top contender, represents a State Senate district that overlaps substantially with Pelosi&#8217;s Congressional District — but several reports suggest that Pelosi&#8217;s issues with Wiener are more personal than political.
It&#8217;s been no secret, for example, that the openly gay senator has been waiting for the 20-term congresswoman to retire so that he could make the move to the U.S. House. He also may have angered the former House Speaker more recently when, knowing that her daughter Christine Pelosi was eyeing a run at his state senate seat, Wiener opted not to resign his seat while running for Congress.

The idea that this means Connie Chan is some kind of insider trading mega Zionist is silly. Pelosi also endorsed a DSA candidate. She loved what San Francisco was. She resents her beautiful, gay city being turned into an incel fiefdom.&#8221;
While some more moderate Democrats have voiced concern over Chan&#8217;s far-left positions on many issues, Wiener&#8217;s legacy in California may be more troubling. He has consistently supported laws like California&#8217;s transgender shield laws, creating a sanctuary state for those seeking cross-sex hormones and sex-change surgeries, and mandating that foster families recognize and accommodate trans-identifying children in their care. He was also behind a push to reduce the mandatory sentence guidelines for people who knowingly exposed others to HIV.
Wiener also <a href="https://x.com/ICANAction/status/2010648955500077532">sparked backlash</a> when he, as co-chair of the California Jewish Caucus, accused Israel of &#8220;committing genocide&#8221; in Gaza.
A recent campaign event featured a drag queen pig in frilly pink attire singing, &#8220;Scott Wiener is a girl&#8217;s best friend.&#8221;

Pelosi&#8217;s endorsement is likely to open the donor floodgates for Chan, who has been trailing Wiener in terms of cash on hand, and should give her a much-needed boost in the polls as well.

San Francisco drastically reduced issues they were having on public transit by making it almost impossible to enter without paying, according to a <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/04/fare-gate-society-bart/686868/">report</a> from The Atlantic.
The outlet noted that last August, BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) installed six-foot-tall saloon-style doors made of plexiglass with metal frames that were much harder to get through compared to regular turnstiles that could easily be jumped. This change is expected to increase revenue by $10 million per year as riders are forced to actually pay to ride. 
But beyond generating more income, it’s also led to a decrease in issues that used to plague the subway. Overall crime on BART plunged 41% in 2025 compared to the previous year, with violent crime down 31% and property crime down 43%.
“Safety is about more than enforcement. It’s about presence, partnership, and creating an environment where all riders feel comfortable using BART,” said BART Police Chief Kevin Franklin of the massive change. 
“BART PD is committed to deterring criminal activity, responding quickly when help is needed, and ensuring riders feel safe throughout their journeys. These numbers demonstrate the impact of officers who are engaged and focused on building trust with the communities BART serves.”
BART PD also doubled the number of officers in the system and made sure that they were frequently riding the trains. 
This wasn’t the first time BART tried to curtail fare jumpers, but it was a different world in 2019 when they introduced “inverted guillotine” gates, which at the time were <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20260222141612mp_/https://www.kqed.org/arts/13861966/barts-fare-evasion-crackdown-exposes-the-deadly-elegance-of-hostile-design" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dubbed</a> “anti-poor, anti-homeless, and ableist” by activists.
There was also a push against &#8220;fare checks&#8221; — essentially people dispatched to verify tickets — which were dubbed ineffective by critics, said to &#8220;disproportionately affect people of color and the homeless,&#8221; and found to recover only &#8220;minimal revenue.&#8221;
These new jump-proof gates make fare checks unnecessary, and complaints of racist enforcement policies are a non-issue since those people haven’t gained access in the first place. 
“We had pressure on us that interaction between police and the public, because of fare evasion, could lead to racial profiling,” BART communications officer Alicia Trost told The Atlantic. “Once the fare gates were in place, we’re limiting those interactions. It’s not discretionary; there’s less enforcement.”
These efforts stand in sharp contrast to efforts being made by New York’s new Muslim socialist mayor, Zohran Mamdani, whose stated goal is to make city buses <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/its-only-been-a-month-and-zohran-mamdani-is-already-a-disaster">free for everyone</a>.

A 20-year-old man was arrested after threatening to burn down the headquarters of artificial intelligence company OpenAI and chucking a Molotov cocktail at OpenAI CEO Sam Altman&#8217;s San Francisco home early Friday morning.
San Francisco police said officers were called to investigate a fire at a home in North Beach around 4:12 a.m. local time and discovered that a male suspect had thrown an incendiary device at the house, sparking a fire at a gate outside the home. The suspect fled the scene on foot, but he was found by police around an hour later outside of OpenAI&#8217;s headquarters, where he was threatening to start another fire and burn the building down.
The San Francisco Police Department said the 20-year-old, who has yet to be identified, was taken into custody &#8220;immediately&#8221; after officers recognized him as the person who ran from officers after throwing a Molotov cocktail at Altman&#8217;s home.
&#8220;Early this morning, someone threw a Molotov cocktail at Sam Altman&#8217;s home and also made threats at our San Francisco headquarters. Thankfully, no one was hurt,&#8221; OpenAI said. &#8220;We deeply appreciate how quickly SFPD responded and the support from the city in helping keep our employees safe. The individual is in custody, and we&#8217;re assisting law enforcement with their investigation.&#8221;
As of late Friday morning, charges against the suspect were still pending, and the San Francisco Police Department said the investigation remained &#8220;open and active.&#8221;
Altman, a central figure of the AI boom, lives in a mansion in the San Francisco neighborhood of Russian Hill. The AI executive bought the massive home for $27 million in March of 2020, <a href="https://sfstandard.com/2024/08/31/sam-altman-russian-hill-mansion/">according</a> to the San Francisco Standard. Altman lives in the home with his husband and a baby boy whom they acquired through a surrogate mother in February of 2025.
Altman has faced criticism in recent years for rapidly pushing forward with AI development as some industry experts express concern about a lack of guidelines around the technology. Altman was fired by the OpenAI board in 2023 after accusations that he was not open or honest in his communications, especially with regard to AI safety. Altman, however, was reinstated as CEO after backlash from OpenAI employees and investors.
Altman and OpenAI have also been sued by Elon Musk, who helped start OpenAI, but then left the company&#8217;s board in 2018 over conflicts with his own pursuit of AI development. Earlier this week, Musk <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/musk-says-the-ai-shaping-your-life-pulled-a-800b-bait-and-switch">revised his lawsuit</a> against OpenAI, demanding that Altman be removed as CEO and seeking to force the intelligence giant to end its for-profit structure and return to its nonprofit roots.
Musk has alleged that Altman and OpenAI President Greg Brockman “manipulated and misled” him into providing roughly $38 million in seed funding between 2015 and 2018, based on assurances that OpenAI would remain a nonprofit dedicated to open-source artificial general intelligence for the benefit of humanity.

Cory Pesaturo isn’t the typical musician in the crowd at the Grammys. 
Firstly, He’s a three-time accordion world champion and maybe the only attendee known for his work with the box-shaped instrument popular in various folk traditions. Secondly, and perhaps making him more unique in that audience, he wasn’t infatuated with Bad Bunny and the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/billie-eilish-roundly-mocked-for-stolen-land-comments-at-grammys">land acknowledgement virtue signaling</a> by millionaire celebrities.
Pesaturo shared his thoughts on his Instagram stories on February 1 as he sat in the crowd at the awards. One of the posts in question was on Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny, real name Benito Ocasio, who said during his speech: “Before I say thanks to God, I’m going to say: ICE out. We are not savage. We are not animals. We are not aliens. We are humans, and we are Americans … the hate gets more powerful with more hate.” 
“The first time in history an album with zero English wins the most important award, Album of the Year,” Pesaturo’s post said. “The guy who hates America… cheered on by those who hate America.”
A few Instagram stories watched by approximately 100-150 followers were enough to get him axed from Festa Italiana, which is scheduled for June 6-7 in San Francisco&#8217;s North Beach. It’s an annual, all-ages celebration hosted by The SFIAC Foundation, a <a href="https://sfiacfoundation.org/">nonprofit</a> that’s “focused on community events, revitalization and engagement that enhances the Italian culture and history of North Beach.”
Another post defended the idea of colonization, suggesting that without it, Native Americans would still be stuck with ancient methods. 
&#8220;Only a hundred to one hundred fifty people watch my stories,&#8221; Pesaturo insisted during an interview with The Daily Wire. 
After Pesaturo posted his Grammy commentary, a member of the festival&#8217;s board was rumored to be unhappy with the post. His closest contact at the festival called to break the news: they weren&#8217;t going to have him perform as planned at the 2026 show.
He claims the reasoning for his cancellation came down to fear from the person in charge.
&#8220;He doesn&#8217;t want to deal with the bullsh*t of the people on his board that do not want to hire me because of… what I could say,&#8221; Pesaturo explained. &#8220;They&#8217;re worried you&#8217;re going to come to the festival, not have a good time, and then start attacking us.&#8221;
Pesaturo&#8217;s cancellation is just the latest example of how the woke mob operates, not through official channels or public debate, but through back-channel pressure on people who would rather avoid conflict. The festival organizer wasn&#8217;t willing to defend Pesaturo. He preferred to cater to the ones who make the most noise.
Pesaturo, who describes himself as &#8220;anti-leftist&#8221; and “more libertarian” rather than conservative or Republican, has always been careful about where and how he expresses political opinions. 
&#8220;I do not believe in that idea at all,&#8221; he said about celebrities using their platforms to push political views. &#8220;Do you want the waitress coming over to give you French toast to say, oh, before I give you this, I want to tell you my opinion on abortion? Nobody would agree to that.&#8221;
&#8220;So I never say anything social or political at a concert,” he continued. “You will never find a clip of me saying anything remotely controversial there.&#8221; 
The only place he posts opinion content is on Instagram stories, which automatically disappear after 24 hours and are viewed by a tiny fraction of his followers.
The musician expressed shock that Italians of all people would punish him for expressing mainstream conservative viewpoints since that demographic leans heavily to the right of center. 
&#8220;Italians came here with nothing, with no welfare … were discriminated against. And it&#8217;s the ultimate pull yourself up by your bootstraps legacy that Italians came here,&#8221; Pesaturo told The Daily Wire. &#8220;So they&#8217;re mostly conservative. They hate free money going out. They hate paying taxes.&#8221;
Organizers for the festival did not return The Daily Wire’s request for comment.
The musician is particularly upset that this happened with Festa Italiana. Pesaturo mentioned another festival he headlines annually that’s &#8220;as left as it gets,” mentioning how he has no problems there despite having opposite political views compared to almost everyone involved. &#8220;The head of the festival is pretty left. And we&#8217;re very good friends. And I&#8217;m the headliner every year.&#8221;
When I asked if he would change anything he posted, his answer was unequivocal: &#8220;No, I mean, this is what I told him. I said I will not be silenced. Especially when everyone in my industry is forcing things upon people.&#8221;
&#8220;He just didn&#8217;t want to deal with [the drama]. It&#8217;s kind of the same story,&#8221; Pesaturo said. &#8220;They don&#8217;t want to deal with the woke bullsh** around them. So instead of fighting, they just say, yeah, we&#8217;re going to bow to them.&#8221;
And that&#8217;s how a world-class musician got canceled from an Italian festival for Instagram stories seen by about 100 people. It’s because even when conservatives are in power, standing up to the woke mob is often seen as more trouble than it’s worth.

A man accused of murder is now the subject of a musical and the crowds can’t wait.
“Luigi: The Musical,” will debut in New York City this June, just blocks from the scene of United HealthCare CEO Brian Thompson’s murder. The show, first staged in San Francisco, transforms suspected assassin Luigi Mangione into a comic antihero. The New York premiere has sold out. Late-night audiences have cheered at the mention of his name.
Not long ago, political violence — even fictionalized — sparked bipartisan outrage. Today, it sells tickets. And the speed of that shift says more about us than it does about one off-Broadway production.

Pop culture has a way of giving us an eerie snapshot into America’s moral decline.
We could point to Bad Bunny’s over-sexualized Super Bowl halftime show, new media attempts to trans the kids, or Brittany’s new DUI. But also consider the outrage over the 2006 film “Death of a President,” the faux documentary featuring President George W. Bush’s assassination. The film released just as far-Left protesters labeled the president “Hitler” over his War on Terror tactics. The project even drew bipartisan fury from former First Lady Hillary Clinton, who dubbed the film “<a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20061023003633/http:/www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=%2F20060916%2FUPDATE%2F609160394">despicable</a>.”
More than a decade later, the culture recoiled over an image of comedian Kathy Griffin holding the bloody head of President Donald Trump. Griffin’s comedy career collapsed overnight, and only in recent years has she returned to the quasi-mainstream. Griffin apologized, but quickly reversed course. Today, no such apology would be required.
Those moments, however, seem almost quaint compared to “Luigi: The Musical.”
The comedy enjoyed brisk sales during its short San Francisco debut last year. The show features Mangione sharing a jail cell with Sean “Diddy” Combs and crypto crook Sam Bankman-Fried.

The production will hit New York City’s Green Room 42 on June 15, 2026. That’s a short subway ride from the scene of Thompson’s cold-blooded murder.
Media reports have depicted “Luigi” in conflicting fashion. Some suggest the show doesn’t glamorize the alleged murderer. Others hint at the opposite, while crowds have been cheering his presence at various shows, <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/03/02/us-news/luigi-mangione-musical-set-to-premiere-on-nyc-stage/">according to The New York Post.</a>
Is it merely dark humor rushing to the surface? Or something more sinister squeezing into our conversations?
The minds behind the musical insist <a href="https://playbill.com/article/luigi-mangioni-musical-to-get-nyc-reading">they’re not advocating violence</a>.
&#8220;Luigi: the Musical uses comedy to bring deeper questions to the surface. Why did this case garner the reaction that it did? And what happens when people stop trusting their institutions?&#8221; Luigi director Nova Bradford said in a statement.
Yet even this kind of cringe theater shouldn’t come as a shock. Nor should the fact that the show <a href="https://www.nysun.com/article/luigi-mangione-musical-sells-out-its-new-york-performance-and-adds-extra-dates">swiftly sold out</a> and added additional dates for its Big Apple debut.
Shortly after the murder, the host of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” shared how some of his young female staffers had developed a crush on the alleged murderer and his washboard abs. Kimmel flashed screenshots of his <a href="https://www.tvinsider.com/1166115/jimmy-kimmel-luigi-mangione-hot-kiiller-monologue-video/">employees fan-girling over the suspect,</a>

Kimmel and the audience chortled over the revelations, although the host wisely blocked the names of the staffers in question. It still speaks volumes about the show and its fan base.

This wasn’t a “Gutfeld!” audience.
And it wasn’t the only comedy showcase lining up on Mangione’s side. “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart informed his far-Left audience that the alleged killer had been collared by the cops.
The response? The “boos” <a href="https://www.thewrap.com/the-daily-show-unitedhealthcare-shooter-boos-jon-stewart/">rained down</a> on a clearly baffled Stewart. “Look, I’m sorry, guys,” Stewart stammered.
A similarly strange moment came courtesy of “Saturday Night Live.” The NBC show’s ‘Weekend Update’ segment found co-faux anchor Colin Jost dropping Mangione’s name. The comic had to pause the bit to be heard. His audience began clapping and shouting with excitement.
Jost, as stunned as Stewart, blurted out, “Yeah, definitely ‘woo … You’re ‘wooing’ for justice, right?&#8221;
Not even close. And it’s not an accident, either.

Late-night comedians have leaned into anger and violence for some time now, fueling our culture’s decay. Hosts like Seth Meyers and John Oliver <a href="https://www.hollywoodintoto.com/john-oliver-media-portland-violence/">downplayed</a> the violence raging in Portland, Oregon, during the George Floyd riots of 2020. Stephen Colbert uttered a sexually coarse <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaHwlSTqA7s">gag aimed</a> at President Donald Trump during the Russian collusion hoax, but he never suffered for the outburst.
More recently, late-night comics chuckled over progressive activists attacking Tesla dealerships to protest owner Elon Musk’s White House maneuvers vis-à-vis DOGE.
Kimmel sarcastically told his crowd to stop the <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/03/19/opinion/democrats-silence-is-damning-as-leftist-violence-explodes/">Tesla-based</a> attacks.

Comedy can help us process pain and adjust to startling new realities, or it can showcase just how far we’ve fallen as a society.
Context is everything. And it helps to remember an old saw: “Comedy is tragedy plus time.”
Mangione has yet to face a jury of his peers.
Watching patrons gleefully cheer on an alleged murderer is something radically different and frightening. The New York City debut of “Luigi: The Musical” will <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/newyork/news/luigi-mangione-musical-new-york-city-summer/">capture the zeitgeist, no doubt</a>.
Mangione’s real-life New York state trial is slated to begin on June 8, 2026, while his federal trial will have to wait until September.

San Francisco residents are suing the city over a Reparations Fund established solely for black residents, two months after the fund’s initial creation sparked controversy.
One plaintiff, Richie Greenberg, said the fund is “dividing the city rather than trying to unite.”
“What we really need is to be focusing on how to uplift everybody rather than focusing on one group giving everything to that one group,” Greenberg <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/san-francisco-residents-band-together-shut-down-reparations-fund-claiming-its-dividing-city">told</a> Fox News Digital.
The original bill, signed right before Christmas, established a dedicated reparations fund, creating a legal framework to address what the city deems to be historical systemic harms against its black community, The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/san-francisco-mayor-sparks-outrage-with-christmas-eve-signing-of-reparations-bill">reported</a>. It included a proposal that could eventually grant eligible residents lump-sum payments of $5 million.
“San Francisco is engaged in a sordid and unconstitutional enterprise — it is administering funding and wielding public authority to distribute government benefits explicitly based on race and ancestry,” the lawsuit says.
The plaintiffs argue San Francisco is violating the Constitution by distributing money on the basis of race, through the city’s Human Rights Commission.
“By directing an agency funded almost entirely by taxpayer dollars to administer funding solely dedicated to implement race-exclusive benefits, the City is using public money, public employees, and public authority to carry out an unconstitutional racial spoils system that allocates benefits and opportunities based on race and ancestry,” the lawsuit says.
The Californians for Equal Rights Foundation (CFER) is one of the plaintiffs in the case. Greenberg and fellow plaintiff Arthur Ritchie are members of CFER. In 2023, CFER sued San Francisco over allegedly racially discriminatory guaranteed income programs, The Daily Wire previously reported.
Additional benefits for eligible black residents include debt forgiveness for a variety of loans, exemption of property taxes, and priority status for employment opportunities, according to the lawsuit.
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie said in December that the plan would not require taxpayer dollars, instead setting up a “structure” for future city or private funding. The city’s $1 billion budget deficit prevents immediate funding, but the plan signals a shift in city policy.
“We need to stop this because it is a tremendous, tremendous amount of funding that would, eventually, basically kill the city,” Greenberg said. “It would destroy the city of San Francisco, and it would set up an unworkable situation of who within the city gets preference as opposed to everyone else that would not.”

Before the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots even kick off for Super Bowl LX in San Francisco on Sunday, the game will already be in the record books as the first Super Bowl to feature two teams that missed the playoffs the previous season.
The unusual Super Bowl matchup is a fitting ending to a season that saw the downfall of past seasons&#8217; dominant teams and the rise of new talent. At the beginning of the 2025 season, neither the Seahawks nor the Patriots were expected to compete for a Super Bowl. The Seahawks, coming off a 10-7 record in 2024, were overlooked in a stacked NFC West division this year. The Patriots, meanwhile, were believed to be in the middle of a long rebuild with a young quarterback after finishing with just four wins last season.
But now, both teams have clawed their way to the biggest game in sports.
At first glance, Super Bowl LX seems to lack the intrigue that NFL fans are accustomed to. There&#8217;s no dynasty looking to collect more hardware and there&#8217;s no superstar quarterback who&#8217;s expected to dominate the game. But Super Bowl LX has plenty of storylines to make it a must-watch game.

When Seattle runs out of the tunnel and onto the field at Levi&#8217;s Stadium, it will be led by quarterback Sam Darnold, whose NFL career appeared to be reduced to playing full-time backup just two years ago. Darnold was picked No. 3 overall in the 2018 draft by the New York Jets with the hope that he would become the team&#8217;s franchise quarterback. The hype around Darnold in New York, however, lasted only three seasons as he went just 13-25 with the Jets before he was traded to the Carolina Panthers ahead of the 2021 season.
In Carolina, Darnold played well in some games, but dealt with injuries and battled to remain a starter before he was let go and signed by the San Francisco 49ers in 2023. In San Francisco, Darnold backed up young QB Brock Purdy and made his first Super Bowl appearance, but he didn&#8217;t contribute much to the Super Bowl run, only appearing in one game all season.
In 2024, Darnold got another chance on a one-year contract with the Minnesota Vikings, where he became the starting quarterback and led the team to a surprising 14-3 record and a playoff appearance. Darnold&#8217;s solid season with the Vikings wasn&#8217;t enough to keep the critics off his back as many analysts and commentators slammed him for choking in big games down the stretch. His impressive record with the Vikings also wasn&#8217;t enough to keep him in Minnesota as the team opted to let Darnold go, and he was quickly signed by the Seahawks.
Many thought of Darnold as a reliable veteran who could lead a team to some wins while it continued to build up the offensive line and receiving core, but despite leading the league in turnovers this season, Darnold did enough to lead the Seahawks to the best record in the NFC and a dominant playoff run.

There&#8217;s a redemption arc on the New England sideline, too, where head coach Mike Vrabel is hoping to win a Super Bowl in his first year with the Patriots after being fired by the Tennessee Titans in 2023. Vrabel, a former Patriots linebacker, is also looking to become the first person in NFL history to win Super Bowls as a player and a coach for the same franchise.
Vrabel&#8217;s journey to the big game was likely not what he envisioned. Just a few years ago, Vrabel appeared destined to be the man to lead the Tennessee Titans into glory. Under Vrabel, the Titans made a remarkable playoff run in 2018, defeating Tom Brady and the defending Super Bowl champion Patriots and then beating the AFC&#8217;s best team, the Baltimore Ravens, to reach their first AFC championship game since 2002. The Titans would eventually lose to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, who went on to win Super Bowl LIV.
Vrabel reached the playoffs with the Titans again in 2020 and 2021, attaining the #1 overall seed in the AFC in 2021. The Titans, however, struggled in those playoff appearances, losing in the wild card round to the Baltimore Ravens in 2020 and getting upset by the Cincinnati Bengals in the divisional round in 2021.
In a shocking decision, the Titans fired Vrabel after rough seasons in 2022 and 2023. Vrabel took a break from coaching the following season before he was hired by the Patriots ahead of the 2025 season. In just one season with New England, Vrabel has already proven that he should have never been fired, but a Super Bowl ring would put an exclamation point on his return to the NFL.
&#8220;From Day 1, he set that standard. That culture,&#8221; Patriots linebacker Harold Landry <a href="https://www.nfl.com/news/patriots-players-laud-mike-vrabel-for-setting-standard-for-super-bowl-turnaround">said</a> of Vrabel. &#8220;And he brought in guys to kind of help him with that message. [Vrabel] is just at the forefront of it all. Guys have a lot of respect for him because he&#8217;s been here and done it as a player.&#8221;

The Seahawks and Patriots last met in the Super Bowl on February 1, 2015, in Glendale, Arizona. It&#8217;s a game that won&#8217;t be soon forgotten — no matter how hard Seahawks fans try to erase it from their minds. Simply saying the phrase &#8220;2nd down from the one-yard-line&#8221; or the name &#8220;Marshawn Lynch&#8221; is all that&#8217;s needed to evoke memories of that unforgettable game when Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7rPIg7ZNQ8">inexplicably decided</a> to throw the ball on a game-deciding play from the one-yard line instead of handing it off to one of the league&#8217;s most dominant running backs, and Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler jumped the route and intercepted Russell Wilson.
Of course, this year, Carrol is not calling plays on the Seattle sideline, and Wilson and Lynch won&#8217;t be lining up together. New England&#8217;s team is no longer defined by Tom Brady and Bill Belichick&#8217;s dynasty, but the shadow from that 2015 Super Bowl still looms, and if Seattle lines up at the New England one-yard line late in the 4th quarter, there will be no escaping the comparisons to the play call from more than a decade ago.

While Sam Darnold goes for redemption, 23-year-old Patriot Drake Maye is seeking to become the youngest starting quarterback to ever win the Super Bowl. If he hoists the Lombardi trophy on Sunday night, Maye — who is 23 years and 162 days old — would surpass Steelers great Ben Roethlisberger, who won his first Super Bowl at 23 years and 340 days old.
Maye, who was taken by the Patriots as the third overall draft pick in 2024, became one of the NFL&#8217;s most consistent quarterbacks in his second season. Maye ranked fourth this season in total passing yards at 4,394, which was just ahead of Darnold&#8217;s 4,048 yards. Maye was also third in the NFL in total touchdown passes with 31.
The New England quarterback has a lot to live up to after Brady&#8217;s two decades of MVPs and Super Bowl championships for the Patriots. But the young gunslinger Maye is off to an impressive start, and if he gets his Super Bowl ring on Sunday alongside his new head coach, things in New England will look eerily similar to 2002 — only Maye would be one year younger than Brady was when the all-time great won his first Super Bowl.

Victoria Jones, the 34-year-old daughter of actor Tommy Lee Jones, was discovered dead in a San Francisco hotel room in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day, according to multiple reports.
TMZ originally broke the story, <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2026/01/01/tommy-lee-jones-daughter-victoria-dead/">noting</a> that local law enforcement responded to a medical emergency at the upscale Fairmont San Francisco just before 3 a.m. local time. 
The San Francisco Police Department confirmed that officers responded to the call on Thursday and that paramedics declared an unnamed adult female dead. NBC Bay Area reported that the cause of death is unknown, but <a href="https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/woman-found-dead-sf-hotel/4006464/">noted</a> that foul play is not suspected.

Victoria was the daughter of the “No Country for Old Men” star and his first wife, Kimberlea Cloughley. Her brother, Austin, is 43.
She dabbled in acting when she was younger, appearing alongside her father in the popular “Men in Black II” (2002). In 2005, Victoria appeared in “The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada,” which Jones directed. She had a guest appearance on one episode of the teen drama series “One Tree Hill” in 2003.
According to the New York Post, Victoria was <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/01/02/entertainment/guest-who-discovered-tommy-lee-jones-daughters-lifeless-body-thought-she-was-drunk-as-mystery-around-her-death-deepens/">arrested</a> three times in the past year for various offenses, including obstructing a peace officer, being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a narcotic controlled substance, domestic battery, and domestic violence/elder abuse charges. Court records show she pleaded not guilty to all of those charges.
Jones is an Oscar-winning actor who got his start in the 1960s and became a big-time player in the 1990s after winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as U.S. Marshal Samuel Gerard in “The Fugitive” (1993). He has also appeared in other profile projects, including “JFK” (1991), the “Men in Black” franchise, “Natural Born Killers (1994), “No Country for Old Men” (2007), and Lincoln (2012), which also earned him an Oscar nomination.
The actor also earned an Emmy Award for his role as executed murderer Gary Gilmore in “The Executioner&#8217;s Song” (1982).

Beyond the $5 million payments, the plan suggests debt forgiveness, city-funded homes for $1, and a guaranteed annual income of $97,000 for qualifying black residents.

In 2023, the Hoover Institution <a href="https://www.hoover.org/research/cost-san-franciscos-reparations-proposal-nearly-600000-household">estimated</a> the cost, “presented on a per-household basis, will be nearly $600,000 per non–African American San Francisco household.”
Lurie defended the quiet signing by citing the city&#8217;s dire financial situation, noting a looming $1 billion budget deficit that prevents immediate funding. He suggested that the city &#8220;stands ready&#8221; to facilitate private donations instead. However, the &#8220;sly&#8221; nature of the passage has reignited concerns regarding the city&#8217;s history of financial mismanagement.

“The other car absolutely had the right of way, and there was no way for me to fix the situation. I would&#8217;ve been forced to endure a really bad car accident,” Rogers <a href="https://video.storyful.com/record/37519">told</a> Storyful, adding that it was his first – and probably last – experience with a self-driving car. “Thank God the other driver was a human being and managed to swerve at the last moment,” he added.
Also this month, a Waymo robotaxi went viral after it rolled straight through a police standoff in downtown Los Angeles. Bystander video shows the driverless car turning directly beside several police vehicles with their lights flashing, even as a suspect lay on the pavement.

Near misses and crashes might not be as common in Waymos when compared to human drivers, but now there’s a new danger to contend with. Most recently, a Los Angeles woman checked the trunk of a self-driving taxi and discovered a man hiding inside, per <a href="https://www.motorbiscuit.com/california-woman-discovers-man-hiding-waymo-trunk-tiktok/">MotorBiscuit</a>.

The incident occurred near MacArthur Park in the Westlake District of Los Angeles. The woman said she ordered the Waymo for her daughter. In a TikTok captioned “This was real life and not a skit,” she can be heard recounting what happened to authorities.
“Why the f*ck are you in the trunk?” the woman can be heard asking the man in a TikTok video. 
“I’m trying to figure this out. This sh*t won’t let me out,” he replied. “They just put me in it.”
“Who put you in it?” she asked. 
“The people,” he replied.
Police responded but did not arrest the man as he technically committed no crimes, FOX 11 News noted. 
A Waymo spokesperson made the following statement on the incident, <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/losangeles/news/man-in-waymo-trunk-westlake-district-investigation/">per</a> CBS LA News: “We’re committed to keeping our riders safe and earning the trust of the communities where we operate. This experience was unacceptable, and we are actively implementing changes to address this.” 
Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company and a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., which offers on-demand transportation in select cities across the United States, including Austin, Phoenix, and Atlanta. Waymo <a href="https://abc7news.com/post/waymo-new-study-by-robotaxis-vs-human-drivers-are-driverless-cars-safe/14208333/">claims</a> its cars have 90% fewer accidents compared to human drivers.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi&#8217;s daughter announced she will run for the California State Senate in 2028.
Christine Pelosi made the announcement amid reports that she could potentially run to replace her mother, who <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pelosi-announces-retirement-trump-torches-her-evil-and-corrupt-legacy">announced</a> last week that she would retire in 2027 after more than 40 years in Washington. Instead, the younger Pelosi will run to replace State Senator Scott Wiener, who is running for Pelosi’s House seat.
“We need leaders who advance our San Francisco values and build power for the people. And that’s the kind of representative I will be in the California State Senate,” Christine Pelosi, 59, said in a message posted to her campaign website. She is an attorney who’s played a role in California politics for years and also worked in the Clinton administration.
“Now, the State Senate election isn’t until 2028. And in the meantime, we all have a lot of work to do together to take our country back, to protect our rights, to attract more good paying jobs, and to build a better quality of life and brighter future for everyone,” she added.
The Daily Wire reached out to Christine Pelosi’s campaign to clarify whether or not she would run sooner if Wiener wins his election and leaves the state senate early. Wiener is considered one of the most <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/meet-scott-wiener-nancy-pelosis-likely-replacement-probably-thinks-youre-a-bigot">radically left-wing</a> lawmakers in the United States. He most recently made waves for a bill attempting to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/potential-pelosi-successor-pushed-a-bill-so-woke-even-the-new-york-times-has-doubts">prevent</a> federal immigration agents from wearing masks while conducting operations.
Wiener launched his campaign before Pelosi announced her retirement. Afterwards, he took to X to praise the former House Speaker.
“Thank you, Madam Speaker. In 1987, I was a closeted teenager terrified of a world that seemed determined to eliminate gay people. You used your platform in Congress to fight AIDS — to fight for people like me.&#8221;
Prior to her announcement, reports circulated that the former speaker would make her choice public following the Proposition 50 vote last Tuesday. Prop. 50 passed overwhelmingly and will shake up the congressional maps in the Golden State to allow for more Democratic-favored seats in hopes of countering Texas&#8217;s redistricting efforts,<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/americas-redistricting-battle-keeps-getting-messier" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> The Daily Wire</a> reported.
“For decades, I’ve cherished the privilege of representing our magnificent city in the United States Congress,” Pelosi said in a video last week directed toward San Francisco residents.
“With a grateful heart, I look forward to my final year of service as your proud representative,” she added.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s former chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, is also running for the seat. The Hill <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/5593214-pelosi-successors-house-seat/">reported</a> that San Francisco County Supervisor Connie Chan is also being floated as a possible replacement in the deep blue seat.
&#8220;And whether you love her or disagree with her, you&#8217;ve gotta admit, she has shaped American politics for an entire generation. And now, she&#8217;s doing something really rare in Washington – making room for the next generation,&#8221; Chakrabarti said in a video last week.

Coast Guard security personnel fired at a U-Haul truck that ignored &#8220;multiple verbal commands&#8221; and approached the entrance to Coast Guard Island Alameda in California late Thursday night.
Video of the incident posted by CBS News Bay Area shows the U-Haul backing up toward Coast Guard security personnel who had formed a line on a road that leads to the entrance to the base. As the truck approaches the security team, numerous shots are fired, and the driver stops before speeding away.

The shooting happened as anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement protesters gathered near the entrance of the military installation. U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents recently <a href="https://apnews.com/article/federal-immigration-enforcement-coast-guard-island-05d4c04c4936e85205e4c2320a5be945">arrived</a> at the Coast Guard base as part of the federal government&#8217;s illegal immigration crackdown.
Earlier on Thursday, federal agents and California Highway Patrol officers clashed with protesters outside of the Coast Guard base, as civilian employees left the base located on a small island on San Francisco Bay. The base has only one entrance, reached by a bridge. The Coast Guard security personnel were positioned on the bridge as the protests continued late into the night.
The Coast Guard said in a <a href="https://x.com/USCG/status/1981669551264715196">statement</a> on Friday morning, &#8220;When the vehicle’s actions posed a direct threat to the safety of Coast Guard and security personnel, law enforcement officers discharged several rounds of live fire.&#8221;

Two men arrived at the hospital with gunshot wounds after the shooting, Mercury News <a href="https://www.mercurynews.com/2025/10/24/coast-guard-shooting-oakland-immigration-protest/">reported</a>. One of the men is believed to be the driver of the U-Haul, while the second man&#8217;s identity was unclear. The rental truck was later found by law enforcement.
The Trump administration said earlier this week that it planned on surging federal law enforcement officers to San Francisco as the president cracks down on illegal immigration and violent crime in American cities. President Donald Trump, however, said on Thursday that he was backing off those plans after some of his friends in San Francisco urged him to give Democratic San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie more of a chance to clean up crime in the city.
