San Francisco&#8217;s Department of Public Health has tapped fat activist Virgie Tovar as the liberal city&#8217;s &#8220;weight stigma&#8221; czar.
Tovar, author of &#8220;You Have the Right to Remain Fat&#8221; and a &#8220;DEI&#8221; professional, announced the position on her Instagram account on Monday.
&#8220;I&#8217;m UNBELIEVABLY proud to serve the city I&#8217;ve called home for almost 20 years in this way!&#8221; she wrote. &#8220;This consultancy is an absolute dream come true, and it&#8217;s my biggest hope and belief that weight neutrality will be the future of public health.&#8221;

In a viral video narrated by Tovar, she explains why it&#8217;s &#8220;fatphobic&#8221; to ask for a small piece of cake at a party.
&#8220;And then it comes time to cut the cake and someone decides to ruin everything,&#8221; Tovar says in the video. &#8220;A cake-related fatphobic incident, or &#8216;CRFI,&#8217; is that moment when it&#8217;s time to eat delicious cake and it&#8217;s interrupted by a moralizing impulse.&#8221;
&#8220;Inevitably, there&#8217;s always someone at the party who has to declare publicly that their slice is too large, and that the person who&#8217;s cutting the cake &#8212; almost invariably a woman &#8212; must do some disproportionate amount of labor to fulfill their need to feel superior.&#8221;
Looking at such &#8220;incidents&#8221; through a &#8220;feminist&#8221; lens, Tovar argues that it&#8217;s also anti-feminist to ask for a small cake slice.

Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) flaunted her disobedience to her bishop in an interview on her Catholicism, saying that she always feels &#8220;there&#8217;s an angel&#8221; on her shoulder despite her vehement support for abortion.
Pelosi spoke about her views on Catholicism and Pope Francis with the National Catholic Reporter, a left-leaning Catholic news source, in an interview <a href="https://www.ncronline.org/news/ncr-interview-nancy-pelosi-criticizes-pope-francis-over-china-pact">published Tuesday</a>.
The California Democrat has defended abortions of unborn babies for many years, though the Catholic Church <a href="http://www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/p3s2c2a5.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">teaches</a> that abortion is “a crime against human life,” “constitutes a grave offense,” and that a person who obtains an abortion is automatically excommunicated from the Catholic Church. Pelosi <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pro-abortion-pelosi-describes-herself-as-devout-practicing-catholic-jokes-pro-lifers-would-like-to-throw-me-out">has previously described herself</a> as a &#8220;devout Catholic&#8221; in spite of her pro-abortion stances, drawing heavy criticism from Catholics who adhere to the teaching of the church.
Pelosi criticized Catholic bishops for taking a stand against pro-abortion policies as she spoke with the National Catholic Reporter — and she said that she ignored the mandate of her bishop, San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, who <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nancy-pelosi-responds-to-her-archbishops-communion-ban">told her in 2022</a> to stop receiving communion over her pro-abortion advocacy. The Catholic Church has always held certain conditions for the faithful to receive communion, including that a communicant be a faithful Catholic, living in accord with Catholic Church teaching, and in a &#8220;state of grace,&#8221; meaning that they had recently gone to confession.
&#8220;I received Communion anyway,&#8221; she told the National Catholic Reporter, adding of Cordileone. &#8220;That&#8217;s his problem, not mine.&#8221;
&#8220;My Catholic faith is, Christ is my savior,&#8221; she added. &#8220;It has nothing to do with the bishops.&#8221;

Later in the interview, she told the publication, &#8220;My faith is always with me. I always feel there&#8217;s an angel on my shoulder.&#8221;
Cordileone&#8217;s admonition came after he <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nancy-pelosis-archbishop-says-excommunication-is-an-option-for-abortion-supporting-catholic-politicians">repeatedly warned</a> her that she could be excommunicated for publicly supporting abortion in violation of Church teaching.
“You cannot be a good Catholic and support expanding a government-approved right to kill innocent human beings,&#8221; he wrote in 2021.
And in 2022, when he told Pelosi not to receive communion, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nancy-pelosi-responds-to-her-archbishops-communion-ban">Cordileone said</a>: “You are not to present yourself for Holy Communion and, should you do so, you are not to be admitted to Holy Communion, until such time as you publicly repudiate your advocacy for the legitimacy of abortion and confess and receive absolution of this grave sin in the sacrament of Penance.”
In a statement made Tuesday evening, the archbishop addressed Pelosi&#8217;s remarks, quoting the book of Ezekiel from the Bible:
&#8220;What immediately comes to my mind are the words of the prophet Ezekiel: ‘If the just turn away from their right conduct and do evil when I place a stumbling block before them, then they shall die.  Since you did not warn them about their sin, they shall still die, and the just deeds that they performed will not be remembered on their behalf.  I will, however, hold you responsible for their blood.  If, on the other hand, you warn the just to avoid sin, and they do not sin, they will surely live because of the warning, and you in turn shall save your own life.’&#8221;
Cordileone stressed that his &#8220;overriding concern and chief responsibility&#8221; is to make sure that souls in his care go to heaven, arguing that he has a duty &#8220;not only to teach, console, heal and forgive, but also, when necessary, to correct, admonish and call to conversion.&#8221;
&#8220;One of the most the effective ways for a pastor to accomplish these duties is by way of dialogue, honest dialogue, where each party listens openly and honestly, seeking to understand the other, and being honest with one’s own self,&#8221; he added. &#8220;My own personal experience has taught me that this kind of dialogue can dispel misperceptions and melt away hostilities, and build new bonds of friendship.  I therefore earnestly repeat once again my plea to Speaker Pelosi to allow this kind of dialogue to happen.&#8221;
He concluded: &#8220;I ask this not only to dialogue in areas of disagreement, such as if and when it can ever be morally permissible to kill innocent human life, but also in other critical areas where our views on behalf of human life and dignity are aligned, especially threats to religious liberty internationally and the plight of immigrants domestically.  This should not be a problem, as Catholics are not afraid of the truth.”
Pelosi&#8217;s remarks come as many high-profile Democrats, including President Joe Biden, suggest that their pro-abortion advocacy is compatible with Catholicism. Leftist groups like Catholics for Choice have attempted to sway Catholic teaching on pivotal topics, including life, marriage, and gender, suggesting that Catholicism is not tied to any firm principle.
In the 2024 presidential election, Donald Trump <a href="https://apnews.com/article/election-2024-trump-catholic-voters-f73f2c74b1e21cc96ff42a671220dbdb">did better with Catholic voters</a> — he won 50% of the Catholic vote in 2020 and 54% of the Catholic vote in 2024.

An alleged vegan “extremist” suspected of being responsible for two bombings in the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/san-francisco" target="_blank" rel="noopener">San Francisco</a> area more than two decades ago was arrested in the United Kingdom, the FBI announced Tuesday. 
Daniel Andreas San Diego, 46, was arrested in Wales after 20 years on the run after he was <a href="https://apnews.com/article/us-terrorism-fugitive-caught-wales-70a2543ea03ed245394226795bffd563" target="_blank" rel="noopener">charged</a> with carrying out bombings in Emeryville and Pleasanton. San Diego was first indicted in July of 2004 and has been on the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorist List since 2009. 
“Daniel San Diego’s arrest after more than 20 years as a fugitive for two bombings in the San Francisco area shows that no matter how long it takes, the FBI will find you and hold you accountable,” FBI Director Christopher Wray said. “There’s a right way and a wrong way to express your views in our country, and turning to violence and destruction of property is not the right way.”

The <a href="https://archives.fbi.gov/archives/news/testimony/animal-rights-extremism-and-ecoterrorism" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bombing</a> in Emeryville took place at the Chiron biotechnology corporation on August 28, 2003, and involved two bombs that went off within an hour of each other, according to the FBI. The attack in Pleasanton was at the Shaklee nutritional products corporation on September 26, 2003, and involved a bomb packed with nails.  
While no one was injured or killed, authorities <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/11/26/us/fbi-most-wanted-extremist-caught-wales.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> that San Diego intended to target first responders with the second bomb at Chiron. 
According to his FBI wanted <a href="https://www.fbi.gov/wanted/wanted_terrorists/daniel-andreas-san-diego" target="_blank" rel="noopener">poster</a>, San Diego was connected to animal rights extremist groups. The radical organization, “Revolutionary Cells of the Animal Liberation Brigade,” took credit for the bombings and warned that more attacks were coming.

“It is time for this war to truly have two sides. No more will all the killing be done by the oppressors, now the oppressed will strike back,” the group said after the second bombing, according to the FBI. 
San Diego, who was born in Berkeley, has a tattoo that reads &#8220;It only takes a spark&#8221; and another tattoo of “burning and collapsing buildings,” the FBI said. 
“He is known to follow a vegan diet, eating no meat or food containing animal products. In the past, he has worked as a computer network specialist and with the operating system LINUX. San Diego wears eyeglasses, is skilled at sailing, and has traveled internationally. He is known to possess a handgun,” the wanted poster read. 
A $250,000 reward was offered for any information that led to San Diego’s arrest.

There was an interesting article in the San Francisco Chronicle this week that you might have missed if you were doing something more important than reading the San Francisco Chronicle like squeezing the pimple between your eyes until blood and pus poured down the front of your face and you spent the rest of the morning taking pictures of yourself smeared in gore with your tongue sticking out sideways and sending the selfies to all your friends with a message saying, “Look, I’m in the new sequel to Night of the Living Dead — laughter emoji.”
The article was written by Ariella Cook-hyphen-Shonkoff, a child therapist and art therapist based in Berkeley, California, and I was going to make a joke about that but how much funnier could it get? Her article is entitled, “How to Talk to Your Kids About Donald Trump’s Election.”
The article begins with this advice — and so help me, this is a genuine quote: “Before engaging with kiddos, give yourself some space to grieve. Hug someone close, walk in the woods, sit on a beach, cry under a blanket. Check your pulse. Are you feeling heated, reactive or in the throes of despair? If so, delay the conversation.”

But now, with abortion banned in Alabama, Arkansas and several other states you’ve never been to or heard of, I think you might consider going on a sex strike against any man who refuses to dedicate his life to supporting you while you raise the children sex creates and make a home for both them and him. Famed conservative lawyer <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/harmeet-dhillon" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Harmeet Dhillon</a> took to X on Monday to lay out a lengthy thread decimating Vice President Kamala Harris’ record as district attorney in San Francisco.
Dhillon began by saying a member of Harris’ staff told her that when Harris was the San Francisco DA, “one of her top deputies regularly rounded the office urging prosecutors to stop by Harris&#8217; fundraisers for re-election to donate and/or volunteer.” The staffer reportedly told Dhillon that she was told it would be “good for her career to contribute.”
Dhillon went on to say that “the supervisor in one of the criminal units was a no-show who literally phoned it in from San Diego, filling out fake time sheets from there where his boyfriend was.”
“This went on for years, only ending under George Gascon&#8217;s tenure,” Dhillon continued.

The San Francisco District Attorney&#8217;s Office did not immediately respond to a Daily Wire inquiry.
Dhillon then said a prosecutor in Harris’ DA office told her that “as policy, [the office] did not allege prior crime ‘strikes’ in indictments as is routinely done in other counties such as the one where the deputy DA had come from.”
That deputy DA “was criticized for alleging strikes; only supervisors were allowed to authorize this and it was rarely done, yet another way Harris went soft on crime,” Dhillon said. “What does it mean when you don&#8217;t allege strikes? [I]t means that a career criminal, a violent criminal, who commits multiple crimes gets two years instead of 25 to life. The prosecutor complained about this internally but it went nowhere.”

Dhillon also brought up how Harris violated her pledge to stay under a voluntary spending cap when she ran for DA back in 2003. California’s Ethics Commission claimed the violations were “unintentional,” but Harris was fined $34,000 anyway, the San Francisco Chronicle <a href="https://www.sfgate.com/politics/article/Harris-violated-S-F-campaign-finance-law-D-A-2554388.php">reported</a> at the time. It was the largest fine under San Francisco’s campaign finance law at the time.
After Harris won the election, Dhillon said in a post on X, Harris “immediately sent out mass ‘let&#8217;s make a deal’ letters to every defense lawyer with a pending murder case.”
“These cases were almost all pled out to manslaughter or even lesser charges, and then Harris claimed these as convictions on murder cases for her closure rate,” Dhillon wrote. “This is unheard of and set a tone of defense lawyers not taking her office seriously.”

Dhillon then moved on to Harris’ “incompetence,” which “got two gang violence witnesses killed, by housing them just across county lines. The bad guys found and killed them, the cases then fell apart. And scared witnesses then refused to testify against more bad guys. Rinse and repeat.”

Dhillon also took Harris to task for her low conviction rate, which she said “was a widely known joke in CA law enforcement circles.”
“And everyone — especially the criminals — knew and exploited it,” Dhillon added.
Harris also “manipulated the stats as DA by charging only cases that were ‘trial ready’ in the first place — an absurd metric as most cases are built up after charging on a probable cause basis,” Dhillon said.
“Even so, her conviction rate was a joke,” Dhillon concluded.

A “social justice academy” run by a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/california" target="_blank" rel="noopener">California</a> school district teaches elementary school kids to disavow “whiteness” and embrace transgender ideology, lesson plans shared with The Daily Wire show.
Every summer since 2021, the New Haven Unified School District in the San Francisco Bay area has trained rising 3rd-6th graders in leftist gender and racial politics during its annual &#8220;social justice academy.&#8221; Specific details about the academy’s curriculum were revealed in documents recently obtained from the school by Parents Defending Education through a public records request. 
“Scholars will define and critically think about Social Justice, identify social injustices in the community, and create opportunities for activism through writing, action, art,” <a href="https://dw-wp-production.imgix.net/2024/10/Copy-of-SJA-Proposal-Summer-2023_143fE3LTG_UM7Lks8vizgeUbDVVRlydGrWh4rPUVufU8.docx.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to a plan from 2023 for the academy, which operates in deep blue Alameda County. 
The three-week academy, which costs the district around $20,000, was formed, in part, due to an Alameda County resolution that instructs educators to “help our children understand and react to racial differences, and to teach our youth how to speak up against injustice, racism and inequality.” 
Throughout the three-week course, students are taught the full gambit of leftist positions from “womxn rights” to Black Lives Matter and transgender ideology. The course comes as <a href="https://www.usnews.com/education/k12/california/districts/new-haven-unified-100683#:~:text=Test%20Scores%20at%20New%20Haven,above%20that%20level%20for%20math." target="_blank" rel="noopener">test scores</a> show that under half of elementary students in the district are proficient in math while only half are proficient in reading. 
A <a href="https://defendinged.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Copy-of-SJA-Proposal-Summer-2023_143fE3LTG_UM7Lks8vizgeUbDVVRlydGrWh4rPUVufU8.docx.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">lesson plan</a> from week one shows that the academy focuses on issues of racial and sexual identity while reading from the book “Not My Idea: A Book About Whiteness.” The book says that “whiteness is a bad deal. It always was” and that “you can be white without signing on to whiteness.” 
The students are also taught that it is “white supremacy” that the 10 richest Americans are white and that governors were 96% white based on 2016-era statistics, <a href="https://defendinged.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/NEW-HAVEN-SOCIAL-JUSTICE-ACADEMY-2024-at-PIO.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to planning materials for the academy from 2024. 
In another <a href="https://defendinged.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Hire_Fire-Bias.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">exercise</a>, students were taught about stereotypes by being forced to fire people from a list of names, before gradually learning more about them, including their sexual identities and disabilities.

In week two of the academy, students are taught about Black Lives Matter, defunding the police, and taught to compare former President Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler.
The comparison between Trump and Hitler happens during a section on &#8220;dehumanizing language,&#8221; where students are shown an image of the two men with quotes. However, the quote attributed to Trump is completely fabricated. 
Trump is quoted in the image as saying “Undocumented immigrants are not human; they are animals.” While Trump has referred to violent gang members and murderers as “animals,” he never said all illegal immigrants are animals in a blanket manner.

The course also takes a pro-Palestinian bent, accusing Israel of being a colonialist power and pointing students to a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayY9DEnW8Gw&amp;feature=youtu.be">video</a> from the leftist outlet The Root called “Why Black people should care about Palestinian Liberation.”
Also during the <a href="https://defendinged.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/WEEK-2-Lessons-2023.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">second week</a>, students are taught about “defunding the police,” the history of the Black Lives Matter movement, and the “criminalization of BIPOC.” The course materials argue that school disciplinary practices create a “school-to-prison” pipeline that disproportionately impacts black students.

During week three of the social justice academy, students read from two books pushing transgender ideology. One book, “I Am Jazz,” is based on Jazz Jennings, a man who identifies as a woman. Jennings&#8217; parents moved him towards “gender-transition” at age 3, and he quickly became the star of a reality TV show that highlighted transgenderism. 
Students <a href="https://defendinged.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/LGBTQIA.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">are taught</a> that being “transgender is not a choice” and how to be an “LGBTQIA+ Ally.” Course materials list “transgender rights” as things like “access to medical care” and “all gender bathrooms.” 
Students are also taught about a Florida law that prohibited discussion of gender identity and sexual orientation for young children in classrooms. The legislation was derisively referred to as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill by the Left. 
New Haven Unified School District did not respond to requests for comment.
Erika Sanzi, the director of outreach for Parents Defending Education, said that the academy should be shut down. 
&#8220;This summer program should have been advertised as an indoctrination camp where ideologues who spell the word &#8216;women&#8217; with an x feed students propaganda about defunding the police, transgenderism, and oppression,” she told The Daily Wire. “At the same time that they lie to kids about book bans, the curriculum includes a children&#8217;s book that calls whiteness bad and equates it with the devil.”

San Francisco 49ers first-round draft pick Ricky Pearsall was shot on Saturday by a 17-year-old boy who was allegedly attempting to steal his Rolex watch while he was en route to a signing event.
The football team said in a statement that he was released from the hospital on Sunday after being shot in the chest.
&#8220;He and his family, along with the entire San Francisco 49ers organization, would like to thank the San Francisco Police Department, emergency medical services, doctors and staff at San Francisco General Hospital,&#8221; the team said.
Police said that the suspect, who was not named because he was a minor, tried to rob Pearsall at gun point at which point Pearsall tried to fight back and get control of the weapon. During the course of the struggle for the gun, both individuals were shot by the same weapon.
Both individuals were taken to the hospital and the suspect is now in custody.

The incident is just the latest embarrassment for the city of San Francisco, which has been plagued in recent years with property and violent crime that has forced numerous businesses to leave the city.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/san-francisco" target="_blank" rel="noopener">San Francisco</a> has wasted no time in cracking down on homeless encampments after a Supreme Court decision in June gave cities more authority to deal with the issue.
City authorities have been working quickly to clear tent cities &#8212; but keeping public areas clear has proven to be no simple task.
Cleanup crews removed several tent cities last week, but tents popped up again in those areas within days. Some of the new campers <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/sanfrancisco/news/tents-return-san-francisco-streets-cleared-homeless-sweep/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">could</a> be seen using drugs, a persistent problem in the city.
The City by the Bay also continues to bus homeless people to other California counties and even other states, including Texas.
Over the last two years, the city has sent at least 857 homeless people to other states and counties, The San Francisco Standard <a href="https://sfstandard.com/2024/08/06/journey-home-data/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
At least a few homeless people have been sent to Oregon, Nevada, Texas, Ohio, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, and Indiana, according to data from the city&#8217;s new program, Journey Home, which was launched in September.
The data is unclear for the city&#8217;s older Homeward Bound program, which has relocated hundreds of people in recent years.

Mayor London Breed issued an executive directive on Thursday ordering city employees to point homeless people in the direction of these relocation programs before offering shelter and other services.
Breed said San Francisco is no longer able to support the influx of homeless people moving to the city and taking advantage of free services.
The Supreme Court ruled last month that cities can enforce bans on homeless people sleeping outside in public places even if there is not enough shelter space to accommodate them, saying such laws do not violate the Constitution’s prohibition on cruel and unusual punishment.
The original case involved the Oregon town of Grants Pass, which tried to fine people $295 for sleeping outside when tents began crowding the town’s public parks.
Before the court’s decision, homeless encampments continued to spread in California, Oregon, and Washington while city officials remained limited in what they could do to address the problem, especially since homeless people often refuse shelter beds.
San Francisco has struggled for years with rampant homelessness, crime, and open-air drug use driven by fentanyl, all of which have driven people and businesses out of downtown. About 38,000 people <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rising-crime-homelessness-leave-residents-of-san-francisco-and-oakland-on-edge" target="_blank" rel="noopener">are homeless</a> in the Bay Area on a given night. That’s up 35% since 2019.
California <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/newsom-issues-executive-order-to-remove-homeless-encampments-across-california">has</a> the highest homeless population in the country by far. About 180,000 people were homeless last year across the state, and about 123,000 are unsheltered on a given night, according to the latest homeless count.
Homeless encampments near freeways, under overpasses, and near exit ramps have also become so common that California’s transportation department now has its own protocol and workers for clearing encampments.

When Kamala Harris was running to be San Francisco’s district attorney, she said she would never pursue the death penalty.
But then a case came before her that was so deserving, that her commitment to her campaign promise blindsided a grieving family and even gained condemnation from former prominent Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein.
On April 10, 2004, San Francisco police officer Isaac Espinoza, 29, was called to work overtime on the Saturday before Easter Sunday. Espinoza, a plainclothes officer, looked forward to attending Easter services the next day with his wife, Renata, and their 3-year-old daughter.
During his night shift, however, the Espinozas&#8217; lives would be forever changed.
Espinoza and his partner saw a man walking down the street in the Bayview District of San Francisco, and it looked like he was hiding a weapon, CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2019/04/08/politics/kamala-harris-death-penalty-decisions/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> in 2019, while Harris was running for president. Espinoza exited his unmarked police car and approached the man, later identified as 21-year-old David Hill, saying he was a police officer. Hill turned to face him, reached for his AK-47 rifle, and opened fire, the San Francisco Examiner <a href="https://www.sfexaminer.com/news/gang-member-guilty-of-officer-s-murder/article_0ffd1f81-386a-5cb4-ba7f-826ebff0b185.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
“I had just talked to Isaac maybe about 30 to 40 minutes before,” Renata told CNN. “He had told me to stay up because he was coming home.”
Another police officer took her to the hospital where Espinoza had been taken after the altercation, reassuring the frightened mother that her husband was “fine” and “alive.”
But when they arrived at the hospital, none of the other police officers could look at Renata, and the captain handed her Espinoza’s star.
“I remember I walked into this room and he still had blood here,” she told CNN, tearing up. “He was laying there with his eyes closed and I saw the blood here. And I walk over to him I just said, ‘wake up.’”
Espinoza’s death was the first time a San Francisco police officer had been killed in the line of duty in at least 10 years, CNN reported.
Gary Delagnes, then-president of the San Francisco Police Officers Association, told CNN he received a call from Harris “a day or two” after Espinoza’s death. A day later, Harris spoke during a news conference regarding the murder.
“In San Francisco, it is the will, I believe, of a majority of people that the most severe crimes be met with the most severe consequences,” Harris said at that news conference. “And that life without the possibility of parole is a severe consequence.”
Delagnes was at the event as well, standing quietly next to Harris.
“I’m standing there and I’m going, ‘Oh my God,’” he told CNN. “The kid’s not even in the ground yet. You’re thinking to yourself, OK, is she sorry that this kid died or is this just a political opportunity? Is this just an opportunity for her to double down on the fact she’s not going to pursue the death penalty?”
He also told the outlet that he didn’t know Harris was going to take the death penalty off the table when he agreed to appear alongside her at the event.
Harris’ team justified the decision by saying San Francisco juries rarely, if ever, sentenced criminals to death, and reminded the media that Hill, the shooter, was only 21 years old.
Renata, Espinoza’s widow, told CNN that she remembered the press conference as the first time she heard Harris would not pursue the death penalty against the man who killed her husband.
“She did not call me,” Renata told the outlet. “I don’t understand why she went on camera to say that without talking to the family. It’s like, you can’t even wait till he’s buried?”
“I felt like she had just taken something from us,” she added. “She had just taken justice from us. From Isaac. She was only thinking of herself. I couldn’t understand why. I was in disbelief that she had gone on and already made her decision to not seek the death penalty for my husband.”
At Espinoza’s funeral, Harris was rebuked by none other than then-Sen. Dianne Feinstein, a Democrat who at the time supported the death penalty. Feinstein would later switch her position on the issue, but at the time, she took a moment during Espinoza’s eulogy to condemn Harris’ decision.
“This is not only the definition of tragedy, it’s the special circumstance called for by the death penalty law,” she said, diverting from her prepared remarks but not naming Harris.
The hundreds of officers attending the funeral stood up and clapped after Feinstein’s remark.
Even after the funeral, Harris didn’t call Renata. So, Renata wrote her a letter. Espinoza’s older sister, Regina, expected to hear from the DA.
“She never called,” Regina told CNN. “There was no consideration for Renata, my niece, my parents, me, or the officers. It was as if she didn’t care.”
Espinoza’s family didn’t understand why Harris wasn’t pursuing the death penalty since California law allowed for “special circumstances,” including the murder of a police officer. And, while San Francisco juries rarely agreed to the death penalty, it had been decades since an accused cop killer was put on trial.
Nearly two weeks after Espinoza’s death, Harris – who still hadn’t called his family – wrote <a href="https://www.sfchronicle.com/opinion/openforum/article/Justice-for-Officer-Espinoza-peace-for-the-city-2789147.php" target="_blank" rel="noopener">an opinion article</a> published in the San Francisco Chronicle again defending her choice not to seek the death penalty, saying the “district attorney is charged with seeking justice, not vengeance.”

The family then reached out to the assistant DA to try to meet with Harris.
“I can’t remember exactly what she said,” Espinoza’s sister Regina told CNN. “But I remember there was no connection. We let her know how we felt. We didn’t walk away feeling better.”
“She never came over and said, ‘I’m sorry for your loss.’ Never. Nothing.” Espinoza’s widow, Renata, added. “I would have been able to hear her explanation directly and then we could have talked about it.”
Renata told CNN she never received any compassion from Harris in the years following, during Hill’s trial and conviction.
During her short-lived campaign for president in 2019, Harris wouldn’t tell reporters whether she ever personally spoke to anyone from the Espinoza family.
“We reached out to the family. We always did. We did in that case as well and offered all of the support that our office was able to give the family,” Harris said at the time.
While <a href="https://www.sfchronicle.com/opinion/diaz/article/Harris-and-the-death-penalty-years-of-13693075.php" target="_blank" rel="noopener">speaking</a> to the San Francisco Chronicle in May 2019, Harris said the part of the case she thinks about the most was whether she should have waited until after Espinoza’s funeral to announce she wasn’t seeking the death penalty.
“Maybe it was a political novice mistake. I don’t know. Maybe it was the right thing to do but you got to take the heat for it,” she said at the time.
Espinoza’s murderer, David Hill, is &#8220;grateful&#8221; for Harris’ decision.
“It took a lot of courage and integrity to make a campaign promise like that – and then keep it,” Hill told CNN. “I’m forever grateful.”

Florida Governor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ron-desantis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ron DeSantis</a> warned during an interview this week that if the U.S. elects a &#8220;San Francisco Democrat&#8221; like Vice President Kamala Harris to be the next president, she will destroy the U.S. the same way other San Francisco Democrats have destroyed the city of San Francisco and the state of California.
DeSantis made the remarks during a Monday night interview on Newsmax when asked about how much longer he thinks Harris&#8217; honeymoon period with the media is going to last where they keep promoting her and ignoring her disastrous governing record.
&#8220;This is all the way until the election, assuming she gets the nomination at the convention, which it looks more and more likely that she will,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I’ve said that they were going to remove Biden. They did. And I also said if Kamala face-planted, that they would try to do plan B. I think that she’s been able to coalesce a lot of support. She’s raising a lot of money. And so, I think the media has come to the conclusion she’s going to be the candidate.&#8221;
&#8220;And so, they are going to do whatever they can to drag her across the finish line. I mean, they’re taking a San Francisco Democrat who has no accomplishments — she’s as vapid a politician [as] you’re going to find — and they’re trying to turn her into a cultural phenomenon. They’re trying to make fetch happen,&#8221; he continued.&#8221;
DeSantis said he believes that most Americans are &#8220;too smart&#8221; to fall for the media&#8217;s attempts to rebrand Harris.

Imagine being a homeless guy in the state of California. For most of the year, you&#8217;re untouchable. You can sleep completely naked right outside of an art gallery, and if the gallery owner sprays you with a hose to get you to move, he&#8217;s the one who gets <a href="https://abc7chicago.com/art-galley-owner-collier-gwin-arrest-warrant-san-francisco-homeless-watered-down-sprayed-by-water/12717643/#:~:text=SAN%20FRANCISCO%20%2D%2D%20Collier%20Gwin,a%20misdemeanor%20battery%20arrest%20warrant." target="_blank" rel="noopener">arrested</a> — as happened recently. The district attorney will issue statements about how &#8220;unhoused folks&#8221; have the right to sleep wherever they want, wearing — or not wearing — whatever clothes they want.
On top of that, the state <a href="https://sf.curbed.com/2018/5/9/17336090/san-francisco-needles-syringes-exchange-numbers-sf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">provides</a> millions of free syringes to help facilitate your drug habit — <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/26/politics/san-francisco-drug-injection-sites/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">complete</a> with &#8220;safe injection sites&#8221; that function like open-air drug markets. Plus the weather&#8217;s always nice. So generally speaking, as a homeless person in the Golden State, you have it pretty good.
But every once in a while, on a dime, California&#8217;s government completely changes its approach. It&#8217;s quite a role reversal. The politicians suddenly become the schizophrenic ones. They decide, without any warning, that all homeless encampments have to be dismantled. They hose down the sidewalks themselves. They clear the place out like it&#8217;s Tiananmen Square. And they issue statements about the importance of orderly streets and ending the scourge of lewd behavior in public libraries.
You might remember that this is what happened late last year, when the leader of China&#8217;s communist party, Xi Jinping, visited the Bay Area. Ahead of the visit, Gavin Newsom <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/newsom-defends-san-francisco-homeless-sweep-before-international-summit" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ordered</a> a crackdown on homeless encampments and drug markets. And he admitted he was only doing it because Xi Jingping was in town: &#8220;Anytime you put on an event — by definition — you know you have people over at your house, you’re gonna clean up the house.&#8221; That&#8217;s what he said. 
Effectively, Gavin Newsom was admitting that California&#8217;s decline is a choice. The only reason they have so many homeless people — more than any other state by far — is that they tolerate it. In an instant, Gavin Newsom can make it all go away. Someone might have answered Newsom by pointing out that, yes, you want to clean up your house for guests but you also want to keep it orderly and clean for the people who actually live there every day.
But Xi Jinping eventually left the Bay Area, so the homeless people filed back in. They started doing meth and defecating on the sidewalks again, as if they&#8217;d never been interrupted. And that continued until yesterday, when once again, out of the blue, Gavin Newsom decided to put an end to it. Watch:

In that news report, you heard that the reason that California is suddenly able to clear all these encampments is that the Supreme Court recently allowed them to do it. That&#8217;s a reference to the Grants Pass case, which was decided a few weeks ago. In its decision, the Supreme Court ruled that it&#8217;s not &#8220;cruel and unusual punishment&#8221; to prevent homeless people from camping out on public property, even if there&#8217;s no shelter they can go to.
Gavin Newsom himself made the same argument in a video posted to social media. He said that he&#8217;s been doing everything he possibly can to clear out the homeless, and now that the Supreme Court has given him the green-light, he can finally do it:

Before I go any further, it&#8217;s important to give credit where it&#8217;s due. Solely on the merits, Gavin Newsom&#8217;s order is obviously the right thing to do. The homeless have no right to make our communities into unlivable garbage dumps. As unpopular as it is to say it, for the most part, the homeless are not mere victims of circumstance. These are not always but very often aggressive and dangerous vagrants who actively make our communities unsafe. There&#8217;s been a huge excess of sympathy for them and not nearly enough anger at what they’re doing to our cities.
It was a good idea for Newsom&#8217;s administration to file a <a href="https://www.gov.ca.gov/2024/03/04/governor-newsom-statement-on-amicus-brief-filed-with-the-united-states-supreme-court-on-homeless-encampments/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">brief</a> at the Supreme Court during the Grants Pass case, on the side of the city against the homeless encampments. And it&#8217;s good that Newsom is sticking with that position now.

At the same time, what Newsom is doing is disingenuous. And we know that because his excuse — blaming the &#8220;courts&#8221; for hamstringing him until now — doesn&#8217;t make any sense. First of all, he was able to clean out the homeless encampments just a few months ago, for China&#8217;s president. No court stopped that. Additionally, for well over a decade, Gavin Newsom has been vowing to end homelessness in California. And courts in California didn&#8217;t say it was &#8220;cruel and unusual punishment&#8221; to evict homeless people from their encampments until 2018. 
So what was the excuse pre-2018? Newsom&#8217;s going to need one, because as far back as 2008, he was saying he would end chronic homelessness in San Francisco by building more housing. He said that was the solution to chronic homelessness — not clearing encampments. And he said it again and again. Watch:

Newsom said &#8220;shelters solve sleep&#8221; repeatedly, for several years. I&#8217;ve talked about this before on this show, but it bears repeating because it doesn&#8217;t make any sense whatsoever. People in shelters still need to sleep. Shelters do not &#8220;Solve sleep.&#8221; But apparently Newsom thought it was a compelling catchphrase. 
He started saying it in 2008 and he was saying it as late as 2014. It was the line that Newsom used to justify spending tens of billions of dollars to &#8220;fix chronic homelessness.&#8221; And his strategy didn&#8217;t work, as this chart demonstrates:

Homelessness in California has only increased in the past decade. The courts in California didn&#8217;t cause this — at least they didn’t cause it on their own. It&#8217;s a product of a few things — mainly the state&#8217;s refusal to prosecute and imprison criminals, its encouragement of drug use, and the glut of NGOs and law firms that work full-time to keep these people on the streets.
It&#8217;s true that the Supreme Court&#8217;s ruling makes it easier to clear homeless encampments. But that ruling is not why Newsom is suddenly reversing course.
He&#8217;s reversing course because Democrats are now realizing they have to pretend to care about the basic security and safety of American communities if they want to win in November. It’s pretty telling that they only care about crime and homelessness during elections and if foreign dignitaries are visiting.
I&#8217;m reminded of some of my teachers in public school growing up. They were awful, incompetent and angry all the time — but they suddenly became chipper and on the ball when the parents were visiting. It&#8217;s a similar phenomenon here. Last November, Newsom sprang into action because he got a call from Xi Jinping. Maybe this time he got a call from Kamala Harris.
That would make sense, because right on cue, Harris is also acting more like a centrist Republican than the most liberal senator in Congress, which is what she really is. She&#8217;s even disavowing rioters. The woman who raised bail money for BLM thugs is now claiming to be appalled by vandalism and political violence.
After her silence on Wednesday, Harris posted <a href="https://x.com/VP/status/1816490945501708660">this statement</a> on social media on Thursday:
<blockquote>Yesterday, at Union Station, we saw despicable acts by unpatriotic protesters and dangerous hate-fueled rhetoric. I condemn any individuals associating with the brutal terrorist organization Hamas. &#8230; Pro-Hamas graffiti and rhetoric is abhorrent and we must not tolerate it in our nation. I condemn the burning of the American flag. The flag is a symbol of our highest ideals as a nation and represents the promise of America.</blockquote>
Obviously everything she says there is true. But like Newsom, she&#8217;s saying it for transparent and cynical reasons — which will immediately become null and void the moment the election is over. You&#8217;ll notice that nowhere in her statement does Harris mention the police officer who was violently dragged on the ground at Union Station yesterday. She also doesn&#8217;t demand any kind of accountability. She doesn&#8217;t call for an FBI dragnet like the one after January 6 — which she <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YnYHO4_98A" target="_blank" rel="noopener">compared</a> to 9/11 and Pearl Harbor.
That&#8217;s notable because, in this case, Harris is effectively the sitting president. She has the authority to order the DOJ to create a &#8220;sedition and conspiracy task force,&#8221; like the one the Biden administration oversaw after January 6. Harris could ensure that every single one of the vandals and rioters yesterday is hauled to prison, just like the grandmothers from January 6. She could ensure consequences for the rioters who raised a foreign flag a half a mile from the nation&#8217;s capital. That would ensure nothing like this ever happens again. But she&#8217;s not doing any of that because she understands that those rioters are her voters. They are her base. She can wag her finger at them, but she&#8217;ll never touch them.
We&#8217;re seeing this kind of faux moderation all over the place. It&#8217;s the same reason Democrats are pretending Harris was never named the &#8220;border czar.&#8221; They know she was put in charge of the border for the sole purpose of making sure it stayed open. The corporate press, including the entirety of Left-wing media, reported on that at the time. But they know that open borders don&#8217;t play well in the general election. So now they&#8217;re pretending she had nothing to do with the border.
You’d think if the Left thought their position was tenable in election, they’d play this differently. Harris would come out and say “Hell yeah, I was in charge of the border and I opened it for everyone. America is an idea, after all. And everyone has a right to participate in this idea!” She’s not saying that. Instead she’s disavowing the whole mess, and the media is helping her.
Along the same lines, they&#8217;re reacting with outrage that conservatives are calling Kamala Harris a DEI hire. They&#8217;re claiming this is a Right-wing conspiracy theory to make people afraid of the DEI bogeyman. But they know that Joe Biden explicitly limited his VP search to women. And they know that, just a few months ago, Biden publicly called Harris a DEI hire. Watch:

&#8220;To me, the values of diversity, equality, inclusion are literally the core strengths of America. It starts at the top with the Vice President.&#8221; Now Democrats are pretending Joe Biden never said this. They&#8217;re pretending they never demanded that Joe Biden pick a black woman during the summer of George Floyd.
There are obvious signs of weakness here that Republicans can exploit. Democrats understand that their policies simply aren&#8217;t popular among normal people. They understand no one wants rampant homelessness, or DEI hiring, or unchecked illegal migration, or rioters who wave terrorist flags while assaulting police officers. They understand that leftist policies actively make people’s lives worse. They actively destroy the well being of millions of people. That&#8217;s why, with just a few months to go until the election, Democrats are pretending to disavow all of those things. They do this all the time before elections, and normally it works.
This time, though, they&#8217;re saddled with the single least authentic politician imaginable. Kamala Harris, of all people, is trying to convince Americans that she&#8217;s tough on Left-wing rioters and illegal immigration. She&#8217;s using Gavin Newsom&#8217;s schtick with a fraction of his charisma. And the reason Democrats are panicking right now, as they look at the polls, is that they realize most people see right through her.
