One delegate at the Democratic National Convention perfectly encapsulated the Democratic Party’s long-time scoffing at American patriotism, as Fox News’ Shannon Bream reported:
Leftists protesting against Donald Trump have taken to burning the American flag; in April, protesters at a Donald Trump rally stomped on an American flag; in early May, protesters against Trump in Burlingame, California burned an American flag.
It is true that the crowd was chanting “USA!” but the delegate’s response was more in line with leftists’ line since the 1960’s that something was wrong with the country. Here are some examples of the historical anti-Americanism from leaders of the Democratic Party who have championed leftism:
George McGovern, the Democratic nominee for the presidency in 1972, lamenting the death in early 1984 of Soviet Union leader Yuri Andropov, who had played a chief role in crushing the Hungarian Revolution in 1956, and later became head of the KGB in 1967 before rising to become the head of the Soviet Union:
It is a modern tragedy that one of the Soviet Union’s most intelligent and realistic leaders has served and died during the Administration of the most ill-informed and dangerous man ever to occupy the White House. We can only hope that a realistic leader will come forward in the Soviet Union and the American people will end Ronald Reagan’s reign of terror in 1984.
John Kerry accused U.S. soldiers of war crimes when he returned from Vietnam. Bernie Sanders said when Donald Trump called him a communist that the description was “one of the nicest things he said about me.” Michelle Obama 2008: “Let me tell you something. For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country…” As far as Barack Obama goes:
April 3, 2009: “In America, there’s a failure to appreciate Europe’s leading role in the world. Instead of celebrating your dynamic union and seeking to partner with you to meet common challenges, there have been times where America has shown arrogance and been dismissive, even derisive.”
April 17, 2009: “While the United States has done much to promote peace and prosperity in the hemisphere, we have at times been disengaged, and at times we sought to dictate our terms.”
It’s not surprising that a leftist delegate at the DNC would decry patriotism.
