The “new” Democratic National Committee, struggling for a message and a motto, finally came up with one recently: “The American people deserve to know what happened.”
They sure as hell do.
Since the creation of the DNC’s unofficial motto, reports have emerged that the Hillary Clinton campaign and the DNC helped fund research that resulted in a now-famous dossier containing allegations about President Trump’s alleged connections to Russia.
From The Washington Post‘s blockbuster story Tuesday night:
Marc E. Elias, a lawyer representing the Clinton campaign and the DNC, retained Fusion GPS, a Washington firm, to conduct the research.
After that, Fusion GPS hired dossier author Christopher Steele, a former British intelligence officer with ties to the FBI and the U.S. intelligence community, according to those people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
Elias and his law firm, Perkins Coie, retained the company in April 2016 on behalf of the Clinton campaign and the DNC.
The DNC came out almost immediately to deny the charges — but the committee didn’t bother to defend Hillary.
“Tom Perez and the new leadership of the DNC were not involved in any decision-making regarding Fusion-GPS, nor were they aware that Perkins Coie was working with the organization,” DNC Communications Director Xochitl Hinojosa said in a statement.
Of course, the DNC tried to divert attention back to Trump.
“But let’s be clear, there is a serious federal investigation into the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia, and the American public deserves to know what happened.”
But as the crisis exploded, no one came to the defense of Hillary. An inside-the-Beltway publication, The Hill, quickly posted an opinion piece from David Bossie titled “It’s time for a special counsel on Hillary Clinton’s Russia scandal.”
This is the second time in two weeks a major story has broken on Hillary. Last week, another blockbuster hit detailing Hillary’s own dealings with Russia.
“Last week, blockbuster allegations surfaced in The Hill shedding light on what was happening inside the Obama administration and FBI while Russia was seeking control of massive amounts of our uranium supply. It turns out that the Obama administration inexplicably approved the uranium deal with Russia even though the FBI was investigating a massive corruption scheme that included bribery, extortion and other felonies involving Russia’s nuclear energy industry in the United States,” The Hill piece said. “Also during this time, under the leadership of its chief diplomat Secretary of State Clinton, the Obama administration was prioritizing and very publicly working to “reset” America’s relationship with Russia.”
So far, Hillary — on a nationwide tour trying to sell her book of excuses What Happened — hasn’t said a word. And no one has come out to defend her. Perhaps, now that the Democrats have used them up, they’ll finally throw the Clintons under the bus.
The silence among Democrats was deafening.
