<p>Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) — who became the first current Democrat officeholder to publicly call on President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Joe Biden</a> to step down as the party’s presidential nominee — said that his constituents overwhelmingly want to get rid of Biden as the party&#8217;s nominee.</p>
<p>Doggett made the remarks during a Tuesday NBC News interview on &#8220;Hallie Jackson NOW&#8221; with host Hallie Jackson. </p>
<p>He said that he was so disturbed by Biden&#8217;s disastrous debate performance against former President Donald Trump that &#8220;the next morning, I was out to talk on the floor of Congress with our leadership, and with as many of my colleagues as I could find, to express the view that it was time for a replacement and for President Biden to step aside.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;Coming home to Texas this weekend, I would say that the input from my constituents has been 10-1 in favor of replacing President Biden on the ticket,&#8221; he added.</p>
<p>He said that he has heard from other members of Congress following his call for Biden to step down, but he did not indicate what they said.</p>

<p>&#8220;I thought it was time for me to speak up,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Not for any self gain, but because I think the risk to our country is so great.&#8221;</p>
<p>He said that Democrats have serious fears right now that Republicans will also win the House and the Senate in 2024.</p>
<p>He said that the process to replace Biden &#8220;will be messy&#8221; and &#8220;chaotic,&#8221; but that it was needed to stop Trump.</p>
