Two debates over how to define a woman between Daily Wire host Matt Walsh and self-identified transgender audience members at New Mexico State University on Tuesday night hit nearly 20 million Twitter views combined in less than 24 hours.

Walsh spoke at a Young America’s Foundation-sponsored event at the university, where the conservative commentator decried radical transgender theory, telling audience members it leaves its victims broken, mutilated, and psychologically damaged.

During the Q&A portion of the event, two trans-identifying biological males tallied about 15 minutes of conversation surrounding transgenderism ideology with Walsh in front of nearly 600 people who pre-registered to attend.

“A trans EMT tried to use his medical training to prove that sex is not binary,” Walsh wrote on Twitter with a video clip with over 12 million views. “He ran into trouble when I asked him how he’d respond to a patient with a penis who claims he’s having a miscarriage.”

The unknown individual initially asked Walsh to define a woman in an attempt to question the star of The Daily Wire’s “What is a Woman?” Documentary — the golden question in the world of transgender discourse.

“An adult human female,” Walsh responded.

Walsh returned the question to the self-described medical professional, who argued that defining sex involves “several different categories,” listing off only two — chromosomes and hormone levels — and “all sorts of other categories.”

“Lots of people don’t fit neatly into a gender binary, even people we don’t consider to be intersex,” the trans questioner said. “It’s a complicated spectrum.”

Arguing that there are no simple answers in human biology, the questioner said biological researchers would disagree with Walsh’s view denouncing sex as a spectrum.

“Well, they’re full of s***,” Walsh said. “The ones that would say that.”

“You’re responding to a health emergency,” Walsh said. “Biological male — somebody with a penis — is having a medical emergency, and they say to you, ‘I think I’m having a miscarriage.’ Would you check them for having a miscarriage? Would you consider that a possibility for them?”

“No,” the trans EMT responded. “But that’s because some people don’t have body parts — doesn’t mean they’re not a woman.”

In a separate conversation, another trans-identifying questioner told Walsh that listening to “transgender persons describe their experience in their own words” made the individual transgender.

“But you are relying on other people to tell you who you are, is what we’re establishing,” Walsh said, later asking the trans-identifying questioner to define a woman.

“A woman is somebody who is included and respected and seen and participates in society recognized by other women,” the unidentified questioner said.

Ahead of the event, protests against Walsh’s speech formed, which increased police and security presence at the university campus.

“How trans people specifically are a threat to the very existence of life,” Michel Wing, peer facilitator for the Las Cruces Trans and Non-Binary Support Group, told local media. “Which is so ironic because it’s trans lives that are on the line here, not the other way around.”

A university spokesperson told KTSM 9 News, “NMSU encourages free expression and peaceful assembly.”

“The university also realizes that certain speech may have a negative impact on some members of our community,” the statement reads. “It’s written into NMSU policy that the free exchange of ideas is a reflection of the university’s public land-grant heritage, interest in diverse points of view, and commitment to excellence in education and research.”

Zeke Rodriguez, a former Republican candidate for New Mexico state representative, told KTSM 9 News at least 550 people had already registered to attend the event.

“We’re a peaceful people,” Rodriguez said. “We just want to bring our message together and impart positive change in the community.”
