Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot was slammed after video showed her dancing in the street in Chicago’s Lunar New Year parade Sunday.

Crime has soared in Chicago in 2023; overall crime in January is 61% higher than it was in January 2022.

“Since @chicagosmayor ‘s term began, Chicago has suffered 2,278 homicides and over 9,000 shot,” the Chicago Contrarian noted. “Since January 1, the city has endured 41 homicides and 194 shot.  Yet here Lightfoot is blissfully dancing and asking voters to return her to office.  Lightfoot is detached from reality.”

“This is Lori Lightfoot dancing on the graves of the 2,278 homicide victims who have died since she took office,” another critic stated.

“Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is filmed DANCING in streets, even as murders soar. Because once your party has learned how to steal elections, you no longer worry whether or not your voters like you. She doesn’t have to pretend to care any more,” a third critic charged.

The vacancy rate on the Magnificent Mile, Chicago’s most famous shopping district, has risen to nearly 30%; Famed stores such as Banana Republic, Gap, Macy’s, Old Navy, Timberland and Uniqlo have left the area. In  2016, the vacancy rate rested at a paltry 3.6%.

Lightfoot is running for re-election, but she faces a list of eight other candidates, making it likely that no one will reach the 50% threshold needed to win. That means the winner is likely to be decided in an April 4 runoff between the top two candidates.

Lightfoot took office in 2019; in 2021 homicides reached a 25-year high.

In October, Lightfoot, who during her tenure has had Chicago cops turn their backs on her, texted “this city is up for grabs” when riots broke out after the death of George Floyd, and boasted, “I have the biggest d*** in Chicago” when she attacked a former Chicago Park District official who made a deal with an Italian American group to allow a Christopher Columbus statue to be used in a parade, and decided she was worthy of a 5% raise in salary.

Lightfoot said she endorsed a plan that would tie her salary, as well as those of the mayor, city clerk and treasurer, to inflation. The pay raise would be capped at 5% and could take effect in 2024.

“To be clear, the ordinance that was introduced today would put the mayor, the city treasurer and the clerk in line with (aldermen) regarding a cost-of-living increase,” Lightfoot stated. “It’s not a salary increase.”
