On Tuesday, New York State Assemblyman Dov Hikind, who is a Democrat and an Orthodox Jew, defended President Trump’s claim that Trump is a nationalist. When a Twitter user slammed him, saying by defending Trump Hikind had condoned “a Nazi,” Hikind crushed him on Twitter with one tweet.
In the part of the speech that featured Hikind defending Trump, he stated:
The President today said that he was a nationalist., which means he loves America, and I want to tell you, I’m a nationalist as well. I love America. Nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong with that. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.
You know, people who live in Israel, or France, or England, or anywhere else, when they love their country and they feel their country should be strong, they’re nationalists. What’s wrong with that?
But MSNBC and CNN, they’ve got a new thing to talk about, because they surely don’t want to talk about the fact that the President’s ratings have gone up dramatically, dramatically …
It hurts to watch how Democrats find it so difficult. Fight for the party you want to fight for. I don’t have a problem. Of course, that’s what you’re supposed to do. That’s what our system is. But ladies and gentlemen, I assume that almost everybody here is a Republican; I gotta tell you; this president has done a remarkable job; he deserves amazing, amazing credit. Amazing credit. You may not like everything he says on Twitter; that’s fine. You may not like everything that comes out from the White House and from the President, but the bottom line is: you know, having a doctor with fabulous bedside manners is very, very nice. But I’d rather have a great doctor without beside manners if I’m in trouble.

Hikind has crossed party lines before; he endorsed George W. Bush, John McCain, and Mitt Romney for president.
As The Daily Wire reported, in July, Hikind ripped Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer after he received a mailer from Schumer asking for donations, writing on Facebook:
Senator Schumer, in your letter you promise to fight for Democratic values and go on at great length to fully villainize the current administration, but you left out certain facts that my fellow Democrats, to say nothing of all Americans, should also be aware of. Hikind listed some of the achievements of the Trump administration, including a strong economy, low unemployment rate, U.S. energy dominance, a strong U.S.-Israel relationship, dismantling of the Iran nuclear deal, and tax cuts.
Hikind concluded, “You ask for a contribution, but the Democratic Party—which I am a lifelong member of—is currently betraying the ideals that our party once stood for: American values. You yourself proposed that Representative Ellison head the party, but you must surely know that Ellison has stood with our nation’s leading hate monger Louis Farrakhan … Senator Schumer, as a fellow Democrat, I ask you to work to restore sanity and honesty to our party so I can feel good about supporting it fully. Until then, I’m afraid the Republicans have my support.”
