Recording artist Maren Morris and her husband, fellow country singer Ryan Hurd, are divorcing after five years of marriage.
The 33-year-old singer-songwriter filed for a dissolution of marriage on October 2 in Tennessee, per documents obtained by People Magazine. The reason for divorce was recorded as “irreconcilable differences.”
Morris requested in the filing for their prenuptial agreement to be enforced and for joint custody of their 3-year-old son, Hayes Andrew.
The news surprised fans as it came just after Hurd vocalized his support for Morris when she announced she was leaving country music due to political differences. The “My Church” singer said many country music fans were “misogynistic and racist and homophobic and transphobic” and that certain “hyper-masculine” country is, in her opinion, “butt rock.”

“I don’t want to say goodbye, but I really cannot participate in the really toxic arms of this institution anymore,” she told The New York Times in a podcast interview.
Hurd posted on social media in support of his wife’s decision and overall statements about country singers and fans. “She deserves to be celebrated, not just tolerated,” Hurd wrote in a lengthy post shared on September 20. “I’m so sick of watching my wife get the sh** kicked out of her by the internet. I’m sick of every talking head having some kind of stupid opinion about what she says. It’s the same every time, why are you surprised when she calls out something racist or homophobic? I’m sick of people getting rewarded for it.”
He added, “She deserves a little sunshine for the burden she has carried for every artist and fan that feels the same way. I can’t wait for that first tour and to see all of the smiling and beautiful people who needed these songs and also need HER. I can’t wait to make music that follows the same path, whatever that is. Love you, MM. Keep on keepin’ on.”
Neither Hurd nor Morris has publicly commented on the divorce news. They first met in 2013 after collaborating on a song and wed in 2018.
Morris has been involved in several public feuds with country star Jason Aldean and his wife, Brittany Aldean, regarding hot-button social issues such as transgenderism.
