Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) and left-wing fellow travelers were arrested on Monday following refusal to vacate a protest at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office in Chicago, Ill.
CNN described the Gutierrez’s entourage of left-wing agitators as a “delegation of advocates.”
Speaking with CNN’s Erin Burnett, Gutierrez called on Americans to “stand up” and “confront our government.”
“Whether it’s transgender kids, whether it’s a woman’s right to choose, whether it’s fifteen dollars an hour, whether it’s our environment, whether it’s a Muslim ban,” said Gutierrez, listing a litany of left-wing and Democrat grievances. “Part of being an American,” he continued, was “standing up … to unfairness and injustice.”
The “criminalizing” of foreigners illegally in the homeland, said Gutierrez, was immoral. The “immigrant community,” he added, “[is] vulnerable and fearful … and they cannot defend themselves.”
CHICAGO, IL – MARCH 13: Francisca Lino listens as Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) speaks to the press after leaving the office of Immigration Services where he was briefly handcuffed and detained after refusing to leave a meeting with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials on March 13, 2017 in Chicago, Illinois. Gutierrez and several others activists were at the ICE office advocating on behalf of specific individuals facing deportation and about the general policies of ICE under the administration of President Donald Trump.
