Former FBI Director James Comey described many news media reports about the “Russia investigation” as “dead wrong.”

During his sworn testimony on Thursday before the Senate Intelligence Committee, Comey responded to an inquiry of Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) regarding false and misleading information pushed in the news media. Partial transcript below:

LANkFORD: Have there been news accounts about the Russia investigation, about collusion, about this whole event or accusations, as you read the story, you were stunned about how wrong they got the facts?

COMEY: Yes. There’ve been many, many stories reportedly based on classified information about lots of stuff, but especially about Russia that are just dead wrong.

Watch the moment below.

Reports based on anonymous sources advancing innuendo regarding the “Russia investigation” have become ubiquitous across left-wing and Democrat-aligned news media outlets such as CNN, MSNBC, The New York Times, and The Washington Post. Operating in a de facto echo chamber, such news media outlets amplify and reinforce their narratives.

The aforementioned news media outlets coordinate formally and informally to advance a narrative of 2016’s presidential election being compromised by “interference” and “election hacking.” Interrelated narratives include the framing of President Donald Trump as an agent of political subversion beholden to or conspiring with the Russian state and casting Republican voters as duped by “fake news” propaganda dispensed by the Kremlin. Donald Trump’s presidency, by extension, is framed as illegitimate.

On Wednesday, CNN’s Anderson Cooper claimed that Comey’s pre-released opening statement vindicated most of CNN’s reporting regarding the “Russia investigation.”
